All I can think of is....'Why?'
Because he's arguably the best striker in world football right now?

That's a bit of a push to be honest. He had the form of his career last season though.
Yes, but it's equally as senseless to buy a winger, an attacking midfielder and a striker, when truth is...we're a bit weak in a certain area of the pitch.
Well no, I doubt it too. But there's nothing much else to talk about so what the hell. Stir something up in the US Elections thread so I can leave this place.
"It is understood that United's bid is way short and is not even near the figure of £15m because they will be reluctant to pay big money for a player who turns 29 in August and has a patchy injury record."
From the Mirror
Is it? He's scored 59 goals in two seasons for Arsenal, I really can't think of anyone better.

Ronaldo score 113 goals in all competitions in the previous two seasons.
One of the best strikers around would be a hinderance? Really?
He's not a striker.
Don’t waste your time chaps. This will not happen. Surely we must realise that Arse will not sell to us. And why should they?
They will either accept a silly deal from City or get him to move to Italy or Spain for a lower price than we may offer.
In terms Welbeck and Hernandez's development.
He was often the furthest player up the pitch for us and is for Madrid too. He's a fake 7 more than he was a fake 9.
Sky Sports saying Arsenal's valuation is £30m Maybe if he had 3 or 4 years of his contract left, but not now.

We paid 18m for Young, City paid 24m for Nasri. Sounds about right to me.
Neither of those are 29 this autumn.

Both of whom are considerably younger than RVP

Very different situations.
Young and Nasri are 27 and 25 respectively, with Van Persie at 29. He also has a known history of injuries, and there will certainly be question marks over his fitness. There's no way he is going to be sold for 30m, unless it's to City who wouldn't care about the figure and can shoulder that risk. Not to mention you have a player who is desperate to leave, has just pulled out of the Arsenal tour to force his move, and has just 11 months on his contract remaining.
I don't think he will either, I was using them as comparisons though. And both of them were bought at a considerably higher fee than they are worth.
Having a year left on the contract means feck all when there's a bidding war for the player.
Is there a bidding war?
Us, City and Juve all placed bids.
Bidding war = multiple clubs making bids and the price going higher and higher as a result. That will happen here.

I doubt it, selling our second best player, probably for cheaper than we'd be buying this unproven 19 year old for? Senseless.
It may not be just a case of choosing to sell Nani, if we cannot agree terms with him, we may be forced to sell. We cannot be looking at all these different players for the same positions to keep them all surely.
However nonsensical it may appear to us, there must be some reason why we are chasing/chased the likes of Hazard, Nasri, Kagawa, Gaitan, Lucas etc, when we already have Nani, Welbeck, Valencia and Young for similar roles.
We surely cannot accomodate them all. But the fact we keep on being linked with this type of player may indicate either someone is leaving, or SAF is not as satisfied with what we already have, as many of us would have thought.
