Robin van Persie

Hardly surprising. Without RvP, Arsenal will struggle for 4th. They'll probably still make it though, as AVB will implode at Spurs.

My guess is he'll either go to City, or do a Rooney and stay...

Why do you say he's better up top alone, has be been poor for Netherlands when paired with another striker?

Arsenal's game is about possession, RVP can link up play and pretty much anything else you could ask of a striker, I'd think he'd be fine as a striker in about any formation.

I just hope we don't play a 433 with Rooney on the left!

Will he though?

The man has been in the premiership for years and he might decide its time to play in spain or Italy for the experience. I expect he will go abroad.

If he joins city ill immediately dislike him!

I think that there is a bigger chance of him going to Italy, Juventus for example. Don't really see him staying in the Premiership, only if Citeh pull something. I hope not.

It would be a shame not having him in the PL though. Great player and Arsenal will definitely struggle without him. I am not convinced Girou and Podolski can do the job. Btw, is Gervinho staying?

20m and 180k+ per week on wages for a 30 year old striker with a terrible injury record. If we sign him then there has to be something wrong with our scouting department.

Well if they would buy RvP I doubt Torres would want to stay. No chance he is going for another season of warming the bench for Chelsea.

There'll be no takers for Torres. Transfer fee, and his salary will be too prohibitive.

Technically yes but he'll be 29 by the time the season starts. Plus he's injury prone. And expensive, with high wages. And last time I looked he wasn't a central midfielder.

Arsene decides who he wants to get rid of and then makes them captain.

He leaves when he wants, he leaves when he wants! Robin Van Persie... He leaves when he wants.

The Arsenal captain's armband is turning into a for sale sign. Two captains leaving in consecutive years is becoming more than a little embarrassing.

Well they seem to give it to players who they know want out, or to try ward off the possibility. So I'm not really sure they can expect any better.

Well, they really can't hold on to a Captain at all!

Henry: Captain 2005-2007
Gallas: Captain 2007-2008
Fabregas: Captain 2008-2011
RVP: Captain 2011-?

Don't think we can take another rejection, we should be putting our focus on a CM.

I can't see him coming here at all, I don't think we need to start debating that one too much. He's not at all what we need and not our usual type of purchase given age and wage demands.

If we're going to be making more signings I expect they'll either be in midfield or defense. Beyond that I don't think we'll sign anyone, except perhaps a few youth investments if any gems crop up.

Don't think we'll be considering RVP at all and that Mail story is likely completely made up, like so many of their articles.

RVP has been so ill-advised about this statement.
It seemed to be inclined to tap into some of fans' affection and trying to blame it all on club; however it has backfired and now all his fans are against him.

There were many fans throughout the season who said they won't hate Persie if he leaves us, as they understand. However last night i have seen none of that, after the kind of statement he made.

Wherever he goes, he won't have the same respect he once had here.

It's not silly.
We shouldn't have trusted him and had we bought a reliable striker who played for us each season, we would have won something.
Especially 08-09league title would have been ours.

He has been our one top player for just one season and that was due to some fecked up circumstances last season.

Oh ok then, so whats the big deal? You wont miss him.

08-09, no chance.

And what was so wrong about RVP's statement? He's been honest and told you a year in advance that there will be no renewal. He's stated the reasons why and they are more than valid. It is afterall the same reason his team mates have been leaving every summer, if that didnt already give a hint that Wenger wont be changing his ways and bringing in players so you can actually compete for the league then nothing will

Next up, Vermaelen

Nope next up is Song. From what I've read, he has only two years left on his contract and isn't in a hurry to renew.

I think the concern is that by confirming he wants out, he's now lowered any potential transfer fee that Arsenal might receive.

Although someone raised a point above about everyone knowing Nasri wanted out and him still attracting a significant transfer fee, so how much impact it makes remains to be seen I suppose.

What was the need?

To tell the Arsenal fans he's leaving instead of it hanging around all season ? To be honest ? None of that matters to you?

Maybe if the Arsenal board and Wenger were more honest you'd be able to do something

Who is in a hurry to renew?

Seriously. Who is going to want to sign a new Arsenal deal at the moment when their better players can play for a team that might win something

Why is there a need to inform the fans?

He wants out?
Okay, inform Arsenal & the club you are interested to go and they can negotiate between themselves & come up with an agreement, like they did with Fabregas, Nasri, Henry, Hleb, Adebayor, Toure, & even Cole.

What would i or we fans would have done, if Wenger & board were more honest?
