Robin van Persie

Have to say, I'd probably take Giroud and Carzorla over Nasri and Adebayor... even with the fact that the later two are acustomed to Premiership Football.

Just my personal preference though...

Maybe we should wait and actually see how they do in the PL. Cazorla is an excellent player, Giroud I know less of. But still, a new signing tends to look extra shiny before he kicks that first ball.

Storey's comments about Clichy remind me a lot of what some arsenal fans I know were saying when Cole left... "Money in the bank, Clichy is way better anyways!" etc

You never heard that from me. Losing Cole was a colossal piece of stupidity, probably largely fallout from the political battle between Dein and Fiszman.

Clichy is by far and away better then anything you can offer up at left back. And Abebayor might be lazy, but he's a bloody good striker.

If you were as interested in winning trophies as you are in balancing your spread sheets, your club might have actually won something in the past 7 years. Instead, you just keep selling your best players, replacing them...then selling them again a few years later, and the cycle begins again, and again and again.

That's a stretch. He's improved at City a little bit. He's still defensively suspect. For all of Evra's failings he's been much better than Clichy. Kompany held that back 4 together last season. Adebayor's a cancer, always goes through a purple patch and then stops giving a shit.

They can't win with their financial model. Either they acquire a sugar daddy, or they go down the path Leeds and Portsmouth took.

Frankly speaking, we should just put up or shut up. If we want the player, just meet the valuation and get the player on board in time for the league opener. If we don't, quit wasting everyone's time and move on to other targets

This is what Kroenke said in November :

“You’ve got one year left on a players’ contract, you’ve got a large sum of money being offered, can you employ those resources better than you could had you not taken the money, taken a chance on losing the guy for nothing in a year or perhaps overpaying for him now and having less resources later?” he said. “That’s how I would see the evaluation.”

im hearing on facebook and twitter its a done deal.

And what has any of this got to do with the Van Persie transfer?

Everything, have you never watched any Attenborough? During muppet rutting season, rivals compete by bashing their tiny limp cocks against each other, to decide who is slightly less retarded than the other and thus the more suitable mate.

So Clichy isn't better than Santos or Gibbs?

Far and away better? I don't rate him that much I guess. He still has those lapses of concentration that plagued him at Arsenal, they just don't get punished as much. Can't remember the game, but Hart gave him a bollocking all match.

No one of remote importance seems to have said it. This is what happens when you follow endless bloggers, no worse than reading tabloids, they'll proclaim "we told you first" when it happens, but ignore their 5% conversion rate of predicting stuff.

Who does everybody follow for all this shite to come up on their timeline? I follow a couple of journalists and wait for them to confirm it. Are people seriously following AGENT_ITK and such accounts? If so, you're just as retarded as they are!

Arsenal are in no hurry as they've already signed Podolski and Giroud who both play in the same position as van Persie, they don't need the money to buy any more players as their squad is more or less closed for the season, so they can drag it until the final day. I wouldn't count on any outcome before 25th at least.

I agree Clichy wasn't brilliant but he's miles better than what Arsenal currently have at left back. He looks a better player at City because of the greater protection from midfield and far superior teammates in defence.

Nasri's a better player than Arteta and is younger and less prone to injury, while Adebayor is probably a better bet than Giroud, who shows promise but is unproven in this league.

Toure was past it so selling him for that money was genius, but I still think Arsenal would be a much better team if they'd kept hold of Adebayor, and Clichy. Van Persie probably wouldn't have got cold feet either.

So what would be the best pairing if he is indeed signed?

Rooney - RvP
Kagawa - Rooney
Kagawa - RvP
Rooney - Welbeck
Welbeck - Rvp
Kagawa - Welbeck
etc

IMO, Kagawa is the better player in the hole and RVP is the better striker. Highly unlikely that Rooney won't be a starting eleven though. I'd imagine Kagawa will play on the left a fair amount instead. Assuming RVP joins of course.

...is this a serious question?

It was more to get the discussion back to RvP and not any other City/Arsenal-player, and I think it'll prove tricky to fit all of our attacking players into the team if we sign him. I expect Kagawa to play alot, so who knows?

I've a tenner on the clubs agreeing the deal and Percy failing the medical.

Not neccesarily if Rooney tracks back as he would in that formation. Not to mention clev has far more mobility than scholes which will help Carrick out and the full backs defensively. I'd be more concerned about the effectiveness off Rooney outwide.

Sorry I know this thread is 151 pages long but I'm totally out the loop. Can someone sum up the thoughts of the Caf on RVP? Good move/bad move?
