Anyone get the impression that Wenger would happily sell to City for less? (assuming the board allowed him to)

Possibly so. I don't really understand it - without even considering Wenger's comments regarding their 'financial doping' - as they're at least as much of a threat as we are now. Unless it's more about the rivalry with us being more of a traditional one.

Wenger's preferred options are:

1) Get him to sign up for 3 years
2) Get him to stay for another year.
3) Sell him abroad.
4) Sell him to City
5) Break both his legs.

I'd be very surprised if Wenger really would prefer to sell to City than us. Not after the whole Nasri saga, as well as selling them Clichy only for Arsenal to subsequently come undone due to a lack of strength in depth at the back.

He'll be hoping against hope for a bid to come in from the continent but he surely sees the two Manchester clubs as the devil and the deep blue sea? (no pun intended but damn, that's an appropriate turn of phrase)

 That's brilliant

There's not much to be done about City accumulating players (and they've already got Aguero and Balotelli) but we don't need to be strengthening you into the bargain.

Had you not sold City half your first team over the past 2 years they may not be in that position yet. We're always going to be stronger than you, you already stengthened a team you could compete with at the time.

It's definitely the impression I get, however irrational it may be on his part.

As you say he is probably finding it hard due to the rivalry down the years.

I'm pretty sure that Arsene would prefer to sell to City simply because they tend to pay over the odds for any of his players. And perhaps hoping that they'll spend so much that they wont be able to qualify for FFP, thus having to sell quality players on a cheap, which is where Arsene will pop up and get himself a few bargains.

This was all along the master plan of Arsene Wenger. Waiting for Trionz to come and smear you with kisses and hugs.

I'm assuming we need to have him signed before the end of Thursday for him to be eligible to play on Monday?

Do you still see United as the "biggest rival"?

Everyone in England see us as their biggest rivals basically. Bar the derby games obviously. We are still seen as the most powerful and simply biggest team, one or two titles for City ain't gonna change that. Ask Chelsea.

Arsenal being so against selling to us only proves the point. They would be far more happy to sell RVP to City, even if they are a level below two Manchester clubs and no longer true rivals.

Well you could stop selling them your best ones, for a start.
We haven't sold them our best players by a long shot, in fact we've taken £75M for a pack of underachievers. We don't want to sell one of our best players to you.

Yeah, I still remember Blackburn with Jack Walker who sold Shearer to Newcastle instead of us. Walker hated us with a passion, despite Liverpool being the top team when he took over at Rovers.

Still pissed off with you over Stapleton even though he wasn't the same player for you.

Nah, I'm not having that. You had extremely high hopes for Nasri. Even when it was clear that he had no intention of staying at Arsenal he was probably the only player in your team showing a bit of bottle and commitment in the closing weeks of the season.

Clichy, Toure and Adebayor not so much but they've all done their bit in getting City where they are now. Which is above you in the league and making CL qualification that bit harder than it was before. In fact, you could argue that Arsenal have done more than any other single club in helping make them the champions.

There can be no logical footballing reason for knowingly making them even stronger. Certainly no logical reason for choosing them over us.

You notice that I rarely argue with you, however I have one question which deserves an honest answer. Why would you refuse to sell to us but wouldn't mind selling at City? As a Man United fan this probably pains me more then you but Shitty are as much of a EPL title competitor as United are, and more then you are.

I had the same thought. Wenger had no problem selling half his bleedin' squad to the berties, but when it comes to selling to us, he's not willing to do so. Maybe the memory of those long-ago battles with Fergie still rankle.

 Kolo Toure and Samir Nasri are underachievers. Oh and Clichy > any Arse LB
Kolo's soldout has been for about 3 years. Nasri funded Arteta (who was much better than him last season) and Cazorla (who will be much better than him this season). Clichy is still a flake - we wanted shot of him. And you're forgetting the £30M we got for Adebayor.

We were well compensated though when Keano told Blackburn to get stuffed.

We should have had Brady. Heard he was a United fan at one time.
He had some class and wanted to test himself against the best in Italy (and experience another foreign country). Not just a money grubber like Stapleton.

Surely you could understand him though? He gave you the best time, and it was not easy for him to say no when his favourite team as a kid wanted to sign him.

Whichever way you look at it, selling your best player (to anyone) sends out the wrong message.
Personally I wouldn't and we may not. It depends on what Wenger thinks of RvP's motivation if he's held to his contract. I think he was getting ready to do that with Nasri when it became apparent it would be a pyrrhic victory.
