The angle which no-one's mentioned on this yet is his family - he has a wife who claimed that she loved living in the city, and he has young kids in school.

The situation is basically this - RVP is so disaffected with what Wenger and Gazidis have planned for Arsenal that he's willing to take his kids out of school and move them to either Manchester, or maybe even Turin, because he doesn't see himself ever staying at Arsenal.

If that isn't a complete indictment of the Arsenal manager and board, I really don't know what is. What kind of contract negotiations don't even go as far as money?

to be fair, if i was in his position and i told wenger and gadzidis, "i want to play with the BPITW and the BMidfieldITW infront of 95k".....well there isn't much wenger and gadzidis can do can they.

Not saying that is what he said, but I'm not sure what his 'ambitions' are.

There is only two clear cut clubs right now that will 'guaruntee' you league and deep CL runs.

When rooney acted the cnut, i wanted him out, but i always maintained that if he was truly questioning fergie's ambition he would have demanded a move to barca or madrid.

However we know that this is not the case, hence why he's still a shitc**t in my book. Just wanted city's millions.

It remains to be seen where RvP ends up. If it is city, then we'll know it was for money mostly because i just don't view city as that much of a greater step.

I'll give you the spanish giants for sure however.

If you discount the two sugar-daddy clubs (which Arsenal obviously can't hope to compete with) then they are only behind United in England. Surely that is about what you'd expect from them?

True. But losing your best players....surely that's an indication that they've well off the pace...besides, I thought their stadium was going to enable them to be able to compete at the highest level? Okay maybe not with Chelsea...but with United.

So who is off next? My money is on Wiltshere and Walcott.

I don't believe this is the case any longer to be honest.

Wenger?
Even after last season's miracle, people come up with this bullshit?
He cannot physically push Arsenal to the next step. Age is against him, for one.

If he stays, he'll guarantee third or fourth place again. The problem is, he ranks that higher than trophies which may seclude the fans. Though, who can blame him -- 15 years of Champions League football is only bettered by two clubs. The ones who should be blamed are UEFA for expanding the competition to 'non-champions' and destroying the Cup Winners' Cup. If that were still here today, Arsenal would be pushing for silverware.

I think we could do more. There are many issues at Arsenal right now relating to incompetence, and I think that is one of the reasons we can't actually be ambitious.

We obviously have the problem with the poor players on high wages thing, which prevents us from doing some business, but I really just don't believe we have any ambition to improve the side considerably until FFP comes in. It's like the club is just waiting for 2014.

As I say, no-one wants us to spend £100m. But £30-40m net on signings who could improve us? Why not?

I think you're happy to cash in on Percy, he's...what? 30? Anything over 20 million'd be a decent deal.... I'd have him at OT at a drop of a hat, shame we're paying off a massive mortgage.

Okay.
feck you UEFA.

nah. getting dumped out of the group stage and having to win the league on GD in teh last minute over a hobbled and poor in midfield utd?

I'm not having that. laser blue cnuts are smalltime and any trophy RvP wins there will be hollow.

Beats finishing third on the last day and going just one round further in the CL.

City have won 2 trophies in the past 2 years, Arsenal none for the past 7. The two clubs are going in different directions.

You'd think that yet what Abrahmovich has done for Chelsea is almost forgotten. The trophies, the money, the prestige and worldwide support doesn't care a jot how 'hollow' their trophies are.

How about both of them?

the lovely reading in the flotation prospectus certainly underscores our ability to do that. :D

Honestly given his age, wages, injury record i wouldn't want RvP here.

If we are interested in a striker, ideally Madrid would get RvP and put higuain on the market. I would rather higuain (since benzema wouldn't be sold no matter what) at utd than RvP.

a sad indictment of current british football.

Looks like he's going to have to put in a transfer request and raise a fuss if he wants to leave.

Arsenal Football Club has issued the following statement with regard to Robin van Persie's future:

"

We have to respect Robin's decision not to renew his contract. Robin has one year to run on his current contract and we are confident that he will fulfil his commitments to the Club.

"We are planning with ambition and confidence for next season with Arsenal's best interests in mind."

He may not go. But if he stays 1 more season, dont expect expect a replacement. Podolski and Giroud will be it

Was always gonna happen. Tbh arsenal don't have to match the big spenders to remain competitive, and whilst there financial controls in place might ensure their long term stability at the end of the day success in the short term is still very important and their apparent refusal to spend money on big/established players or on retaining their stars and maybe wengers stubborness on some issues, is always going to hold them back and loosing rvp after nasri and fabregas have left will be a very big blow. You'd have to imagine that any of the current players who step up will be thinking about leaving at some point. Starting to look more and more than arsenal could just be a stepping stone to moving to the bigger clubs which is sad really as they have been fantastic in the pl and have just fallen away so much in recent years.

:lol::lol:

 I know.

I'm amazed it took 2 hours for us to come up with that. I do suspect we might play hard with this one though.

Playing devil's advocate here but why doesn't he stay and along with the new signings endeavour to bring the trophy that everyone craves?

After all he's declared his love for Arsenal on many occasions.

For the most part, I don't. I barely watch anything beyond Spurs anymore.

But thanks, I also watch tennis.

I guess that explains your clueless comments on Wilshere and Walcott leaving Arsenal next and how Man City isn't a step up from Arsenal at the moment.
