Robin van Persie

Getting used to this is probably the most ridiculous feeling I've ever had to be familiar with in the past 3 years.

One player does not a club make, RvP was important last season, as was Cesc for 5 seasons in a row before that. It's about getting the right man in midfield now.

Vermaelen will probably be captain now, so better be ready for City to shove their crotch full of dollars at him next season.

according to our resident cule, barca are sniffing around for him.

"We need to keep Robin van Persie at all costs because we depend on him offensively," ... "I've always supported him, even in the hardest of times. Now I hope he'll end his career at Arsenal."

Wenger looks like a total clown.

He leaves when he wants, he leaves when he wants, Robin Van Persie, he leaves when he wants

"I don't come here to replace van Persie, we can play together." - Olivier Giroud last week.

"I’ve always supported van Persie, even in the hardest of times. Now I hope he’ll end his career at Arsenal.” - Arsene Wenger yesterday.
@piersmorgan How do you feel about Robin van Persie being promoted from the Man City reserve team to the first team?

Some stuff about van Persie taking a break from football because of his ongoing back problems and others saying he has agreed to move to Man City.

It's a shame for the arse fans but from RVPs point of view it's his last shot at a big contract and to join a team chasing the top prizes. He's always represented arsenal very well IMO and it'd be sad to see should the fans turn on him, I doubt they will though

I expect he'll end up at one of barca/madrid

Don't think this will be as a big loss as some on here are making out.

Agent Puyol already at work:

Well it's a point not lost on many Arse fans that they weren't going to win anything with him anyway may as well try and move on without him

It's the new trophy. It's all the board want.

I have never been on the side of asking for £100m invested. But I refuse to believe our financial situation is so bad we can literally not spend net a single penny every summer.

I'm sure it's not. But you can't compete with the sugar daddies. It makes financial sense not to try.

If FFP is implemented, the football landscape will be radically altered. If not, football is on a train to places unknown.

I suspect some of the top clubs are in a semi holding pattern at the moment, looking up at the guillotine, and wondering if it's actually going to fall. If it doesn't, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and United may be watching City's backside for the next 20 years.

What we're doing isn't financially prudent. We were one bowl of lasagne away from finishing 4th last season and out of the CL.

If we don't qualify for the CL next season, what happens? We lost £40m odd. Invest in your team, that doesn't happen.

Does that mean he'll leave this summer or next for free ?

His full statement was a bit damning...be hard for him to work with Wenger after that. Plus even with his coming out in this manner, Arsenal can still get 20mil for him...why let him go for a free next season.

RvP leaving was pretty darn obvious after the signings of Podolski and Giroud tbh.

He's found out the direction the club is going in and using it to inform his decision on whether to leave or not. I'm not sure why you have a problem with that.

I don't. But millions did when Rooney did the same thing. Wherever he thinks the club is going is irrelevant, Wenger and the board still ultimately want the title even though they are being written off just like we were when Rooney demanded, it's up to Arsenal to prove him wrong, no one else, though unlike us, they probably won't be willing to throw him 200k to keep him.

Beautiful

Don't care what his dad or wife say this transfer to City has been nailed on for months now.

Don't see it myself. If he goes there who are they going to drop? I know it'd be a nice problem to have but Mancini has got that squad together now wouldn't RVP just disrupt it?

Off topic, but it always amazes me how important football people can go on holiday at such a crucial time. You're club captain's future is up in the air and you can't meet with him for two weeks because your Chief Executive is on holiday. It happens time and time again. Go on holiday in May and come back by the end of June ffs.

if a club is allowed to run losses every year with impunity...yes.

clubs like Chelsea and City will destroy the English game in time...unless the governing authorities wake up and change the rules.

Isn't that what Platini wants with the FFP?

I know, it'd make sense from a financial POV but from a football POV ? It'll be very interesting to follow this story.Cannot really blame RVP though, it's the best decision for his career

From a football point of view he's basically said he no longer wants to be there.

But it wasn't....

As announced earlier this year I had a meeting with the Boss and Mr. Gazidis after the season. This was a meeting about the club’s future strategy and their policy. Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.

I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days. Out of my huge respect for Mr. Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.

They knew he wasn't going to sign on...just because he made the announcement today, doesn't mean this transpired a couple of days ago...

And there goes Arsenal's last remaining World Class player.

But it wasn't....

The Dutch international added that there would be further meetings once Gazidis returns from a two-week holiday in America and that he would provide updates "if and when there are more developments".

I don't know who they will drop but it is going to happen.

Arsenal currently discussing whether to issue a response to Van Persie statement. Club had no idea this was coming
