You reckon that stat will hold for eternity?

Look, I think you were lucky last season to finish as close to City as you did. Most manc fans I know said as much and moreover saying the team looked weaker than it had for some years. You only have to refer back to some of the manc posted negative comments on here last season as evidence of that.

I feel your midfield lacks strength and creativity and that might be a better place to look for bringing in new blood than another striker.

There's been nothing to suggest it's going to change any time soon.

Yes, our midfield needs reinforcement but we've just brought Kagawa in for that very reason. Perhaps your manc mates don't think much of him but he's great. You might well think we were lucky to finish so close to the top but there was no luck to us finishing 19 points ahead of 3rd. That's only possible if you have a quality squad, obviously. And Spurs, Newcastle and whoever else aren't even close.

Nah, you can pay him £120K a week to sit on the bench and lose Welbeck by not paying him 60K a week.

This thread is hilarious. Why the hell a bunch of gunners has ended up arguing on a man utd forum?

Because they see us as rivals. They still think its 2004.

I always laugh when I read an article saying 'Arsene Wenger has decided not to sell to Manchester United due to them being on pitch rivals', Im always like 'WTF, your rivals are Liverpool and Tottenham ffs'

To be fair, i can see where's Wenger coming from. I doubt we would sell Welbeck/Hernandez to Arsenal if the situation was turned around. I wouldn't want to see Fergie to even sell Berbatov to them

I think City were much luckier than us last season, especially with injuries. United had one of their best season ever in terms of goals and points, anyone who thinks last season was poor is being unreasonable, imho.

I'm not saying we were perfect, but no one is. We could have used a top creative midfielder, Arsenal could use 4 real defenders, every team has flaws.

As I've said, I don't recall a game that we won last season due to being lucky. I can easily recall a couple that we dropped points in in a rather unlucky fashion - for example Newcastle and Blackburn at home.

I liken Arsenal to Wigan, guaranteed six points a season and they usually take points from our title rivals.

How far will Arsenal go to keep RVP from joining us do we reckon? If serious persuasion fails, is kidnap a viable opion?

They won't risk losing him for free, my guess is that we're currently the only side to have shown an interest that interests the player, and Arsenal are desperately searching for a foreign club to sell to. It could go all the way to deadline day.

I don't know what some people are on. United were not lucky to finish second. United should have won the league....We bed in new goalkeeprs, we had the usual spate of injuries but most peoples complaint is, we wasted too many chances. Won too many games one nil, when we should have scored more. Also we had freak results. No luck against Newcastle twice with Simpson clearing off the line in both games. The Everton game, was a joke. Vidic would have been important to handle their ariel threat. That is a freak result. The wigan game, was a pathetic effort by the players. Yes Wigan played well but you have to match their effort. I don't know how anyone in their right mind can say we were lucky.

Really don't want Van Persie, he'll be back to his old injury-prone self next season and I doubt he would would fit in well anyway.

Our transfer negotiators are shocking, RVP should be on board by now the
Longer it drags on more likely he'll end up at shitty.

Not that easy to convince Arsenal to sell you a player when you're Man United to be honest. I don't see much wrong here, same for Lucas deal when you consider the kind of a fee that he went for in the end.

I think he would be a City player by now if both parties are interested in one another. He wants to come here and who could blame him?

The WUM is strong in the two Gunner-fans in this thread.

To be fair, can you even imagine how wound up you'd be if there was a strong possibility of Rooney signing for Arsenal?

This must be killing them.

Do you know what I find more annoying than fans of other sides?

The treatment that they are given when discussing football. Pete (an Arsenal fan) is suggesting Arsenal are just as likely to win a trophy (not an outlandish claim, despite what people may see), in a thread about an Arsenal player potentially joining United, and people are suggesting he should be banned from the football forums.

It's ridiculous, his claims are no way as ridiculous as half of those spouted by the United fans on here.

Good post.

Norwich away we were outplayed. Same with Swansea. Beating Spurs away was one of the most misleading 3-1 scorelines you're likely to see. I can't remember whether it was home or away, but the Fulham game where Carrick gave away what should have been a penalty in the last few minutes. Think it was on Danny Murphy.

Now being outplayed and still winning is not necessarily the definition of lucky. Some even call it the mark of champions. That being said, I feel like we've fallen back on that "mark of champions" excuse for poor performances much more over the last two seasons than in previous years.

Clearly you are in a great position to make such comments. Shameful comments

They are as rivals to us as Blackburn are. In fact they are throwing the same fit for rvp as the venky did with jones

Even Leeds United sold a player to us when they were bent over a barrel.
Is it possible that Arsenal as a club are more bitter/petty than fecking Leeds???

Do you lot actually think Arsenal should just bend over and sell him to us? Why in the world would they do that? Even if you go down the road of scoring points and repeating the statement that they're no longer our rivals, they obviously have aspirations to overtake us.

They did sell Ashley Cole to Chelsea (who gave them Gallas in exchange, to be fair) but I think Cole made it clear he wanted to go to Chelsea.

If RvP really wants to come to United he'll be made to submit a transfer request.

And they sold Clichy and Nasri to City, who were closer to them in terms of competition at that time because they were supposed to be fighting for 3rd or 4th . Selling a 29 year old injury prone wantaway to us doesn't seem that far fetched really.

Kagawa's starting tonight in a midfield two. Is that enough to shut up all the "we have too many strikers" folks? Berbatov out and it's quite clear how Van Persie will fit into our squad.

The difference must then be in the amount being offered. You have proven that Arsenal will sell to close rivals, but only if the money being offered is too good to turn down.

Regarding RVP, we have obviously not met Arsenal's valuation of him. Had we already done so, the examples you provide suggest he would already be our player.

So as many of us predicted it is nothing to do with selling to rivals, it is about saving face. Offer them terms that allows them to save face and justify the sale to their fans, and they will take accept.

If that is the criteria i can't see us getting him. We have proven many times we will not go beyond a certain valuation, and i cannot see this situation being any different.

Fulham...with them not getting that penalty 2-3 mins before the end...that was a bit lucky I would say

Carrick's playing in defence. You cannot draw conclusions from a game where Carrick's playing in defence.
