Robin van Persie

So he's effectively pulled a more polite Rooney......randomly thinking he and his agent can dictate who the club should be signing and what not.

Come on, we all know that isn't the real reason RVP isn't staying.

I really hope he doesn't go to City, not just because they're our rivals & he's a quality player but also because he's a nice guy.

Feel sorry for Arsenal and their fans. Doesn't happen often but some loyalty would be nice for a change.

Seeing as Gill repeatedly said we're not constrained by the Glazers or the debt I fully expect us to look at Van Persie as Berbatov's leaving and Owen's gone.

RVP is not exactly a picture of health, is he? I thought last season was his first injury free one in many years.

Between the two of them you would think you'd have an option always available. And how many players are at a level to make it at Barca? Ibra could not do it.

Considering the wages he'd want due to his contract situation and the fee being less, we shouldnt be in the frame.

He gave them a CL place ahead of Spurs. They should be happy with what they got.

Wouldn't his wage demands though be similar to other world class players shouldn't he be in our ball park, unless we aren't able to compete but then Gill said ...

He's not staying in England.

He obviously doesn't rate Podolski and Giroud then.

I don't even think it's that.

If he didn't like the direction of the club, it seems strange to me that this wasn't ascertained before the Euros. I think RVP must have been told things before that the club are now backtracking on.

We spent a total of £22m on those two. How much will RVP fetch? About that.

Bendtner and Arshavin will go, fetching around £12m in total I'd have thought.

We will probably sign a midfielder of some kind late in the window for a sum in that region.

End result: break even. Just like every summer.

Fair enough. It would be nice though to pinch one of our rivals' best players like we were renowned for before the Glazers took over.

Arsenal are not our rivals. Our rivals are a team with so much money we would never pinch a player from them even in PLC days.

He's found out the direction the club is going in and using it to inform his decision on whether to leave or not. I'm not sure why you have a problem with that.

And as long as Arsenal keep getting that CL place then the system is working.

It's the new trophy. It's all the board want.

I have never been on the side of asking for £100m invested. But I refuse to believe our financial situation is so bad we can literally not spend net a single penny every summer.

If trophies are now the preserve of billionaire sugar daddies then Arsenals system of reaching the CL without creating massive debts is as good as can be hoped for.

Not a surprise really I bet he told them last year he'd do one more year. Wenger comes out of this looking stupid again after last years cesc and nasri situation. If he leaves he owes that journo an ice cream.

Exactly. I blame UEFA as much as Wenger for thinking 'Champions' League qualification every year is good. It's not, just financially it is.

Fourth will be the minimum this season for Arsenal, as is next season, the season after that. Trophies are just an 'add-on' for them.
