Robin van Persie

Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Gill come out and say we're working on a few more signings each summer for the past few years with absolutely diddly-squat materialising?

We bought DDG, Young and Jones last summer.

3 weeks to the end of the window and Persie himself remains silent on everything, so far but I don't blame him.

Being 29, having a family and also thinking in the same time about his football ambitions may be a bit complicated and he'll have to make decision to move on with things or trust Arsene Wenger that he's finally gonna lead Arsenal to win in Premiership or somewhere else.

Of course, it would be nice if he could just say, where he wants to play next season but no pressure... no pressure at all, Van. :wenger:

Will be interesting to see if the mystery player besides van Persie is a winger as second choice to Lucas. Seeing as we were sure of Lucas being signed just a few days ago, I can't imagine us having a backup ready this soon.

Probably a left back.

I mean to say when we're coming to the end of the transfer window. He's always saying it and we usually sign nobody after he has said we're working on signing more players.

You're making things up, Cunto.

For me, Gill stating we're working on a few things is the nail in the coffin for our transfer dealings.

berbatov is worth feck all. do you honestly think a team will pay 10 million for him?

RvP isn't going to move below 20 million quid IMO.

He said 'for example' to be honest. Apart from that Berba's worth feck all due to us completely turning our backs on him and not playing him + his age and contract expiring.

Get him to a club level below, play him week in week out in appropriate system and he is suddenly worth 7-10 million for you can still get 2/3 fruitful years out of him. It takes some risk, though.

Thank you, the amount was for demonstrative purposes and irrelevant. My point was that, if SAF gets a couple million quid more for Berbs than he anticipates, it may make him more willing to pay an extra couple million for RvP also, as it'll just be "the extra Berbatov cash".

Good effort missing the point though, VoetbalWizard.

You think that we will being a 'few' players in?

Yes.

We'll very likely get van Persie, once Arsenal has held out for a bit more money, and we wanted to spend £30m on an unproven 19 year old winger, so it's not out of question that we might have a bit of cash to spend on at least one more player besides van Persie.

I'd be surprised if we don't get two more players with van Persie being one of them.

Easy, Brophs. Anyway, I reckon there's too much fannying about by us. Either put up or shut up.

We're not the only ones and it does seem to be the way things are done these days. You get a few signings sorted out early on in the window (e.g. Kagawa, Podolski, Borini) then a really long quiet period followed by transfer madness in the last few days of the window. I guess it's all down to brinkmanship over fees, by both parties.

RvP seems like our last roll of the dice to me.

Hazard
Modric
Lucas

We are not doing very well so far.

Us wanting van Persie is not a result of us not getting Lucas - we've been working hard on both of them at the same time, because we wanted both. We very nearly got one (Lucas) and we're still in a good position to get the other (van Persie)

At some point, yes but remaining 3 weeks is surely enough time to bring 2 or even more quality players.

It's not our fault that players turn into cynical cash grabbing slaves when only they'll hear word - "Project" from some oil pimp businessman.

Perhaps. I'll be shocked if Fergie actually thinks he's getting for under £15m, though...I hope he gets his man, rather than lament what could've been cum start of the new season. And why have we started making our transfer targets public knowledge? First Lucas and now Persie. Putting pressure on them?

Eh? Did my half-hearted Fergie imitation not make it obvious? If I didn't have such unshakeable self-confidence I'd think my jokes weren't all that funny.

I was saying hello, cockface.

It's almost as if people forget we signed players early on, or as if other clubs are signing players just days after showing an interest and all getting their first targets.

Yeah, it's all a bit odd. If I was into conspiracies I'd wonder if Fergie himself is getting pissed off at being pipped at the post for recent targets and indulging in some politics to up the ante with Gill and the people holding the purse-strings.

Exactly, look at Chelsea and Hulk, that looked nail on to follow directly after Hazard, yet here we are and it seems unlikely to even happen now.

Quick run through the last few pages suggests these quotes from Mancini have been posted.

Skysports

"You need to ask Brian Marwood," he added. "I am not the sporting director. I can't say anything about players."
...

Balotelli has been a controversial figure since arriving from Inter Milan and City could well have got back the £24million they paid for him in 2010, but Mancini wants Balotelli to fulfil his potential with the Blues.

"We had a lot of requests for him," Mancini said of his compatriot, who turns 21 on Sunday.

"Many important teams wanted him. I said no because he is young and we are sure he can improve."

Hold on Roberto, so you can't say anything about players but you can reject bids for Balotelli yourself?

Do. Not. Trust.
