On one hand I don't want us to sign RvP, but on the other hand, watching Pete and Gillespie squirm when he does sign, will be very amsuing.

Now here's an interesting statistic
In the history of the premiership, arsenal have not sold one player to united
From memory, the last one was Frank Stapleton whose tapping up by Utd was seen as despicable behaviour at the time leading to the bad blood which still exists today between the 2 club boards
Now why do you think getting RVP will be for anything less than a premium price
Fergie is right, Arsenal will ensure the price to be paid by Utd will be higher for them than any other clib

Daily Telegraph saying Gill will meet folks from Arsenal this weekend.

United have sold players to Arsenal though. Thanks for giving us money for Silvestre.

barca have xavi, iniesta, busquet and yet they sign fabregas last summer. they also have messi, villa, pedro and then sign sanchez as well. it is not that they desperately need to sign these players, but they did to make them stronger(even if they end up not retaining the la liga and CL, but that is not the point here). the point here is they is always room for improvement, no matter how good you already are.

People seem to think 4 strikers are enough. It's just about a minimum requierd setup for a top club, and especially when one of them is just a talent. I'm so tired of all this talking of having midfielders filling in the holes when problems start gathering up. It looks nice on paper having Giggs/Young/Nani/Kagawa playing behind the lone striker, but it is not like that in reality. You just tend to lose fire power. Yes it will probably save you from sticky situations like when playing a lesser team, but when you have a big game coming up it's not gonna be enough.

You pick up an injury on Rooney and you're left with 3 strikers and coming into a tough period of 3-4 games in a 10 day period and you're fecked. It's VERY unlikely that all these strikers will go a whole season without any injuries or hitting a goal production dry.

All that says is your clubs bitter. Do you think Arsenal have never tapped anyone up?...RVP has one year left on his contract and he's not renewing. Yes and it will be at the last minute to ensure he get's no pre season. Will be interesting to see if Arsenal give him any minutes. Rascals.

If RVP waits until Christmas he can sign a pre-contract in january, is that correct?

It seems a bit stupid to risk 15 -20 million trying to get 25 million at this late stage.

What would be the point in getting him next season. We don't have time for that. We are buying him to win this championship.

Is he going to Cologne?

Should Ivan stay in London, I'm sure Gill will get a nice cup of tea and a bourbon biscuit for his troubles

Well I doubt all of Arsenal's suits will be in Cologne for the full weekend.

Always find it funny when people think the transfer activity at a club stops dead, the moment the CEO or manager travels abroad. Makes me wonder if these people have any experience of working in any business, at any level.

Of course, seeing as this this latest post is from Gillespie I also wonder if he's posting from a locked ward somewhere, with crayons stuck up his nose.

Goons, would you rather Arsenal sold van Persie to City than to United (in the event of him leaving no matter what)?

I think it's in Arsenals plans to sell RVP in this transfer window, otherwise they shouldn't spent so heavily earlier in the summer. If they sell to us or not is another story but if the players preference is to join United then there is only one winner in this "battle".

Sagas like this and Lucas make a mockery of clubs moaning about tapping up. Everyone's doing it. You'd assume RvP has deals done with all of the clubs interested, subject to him deciding to go there. The whole thing's a bit daft.

Mancini on RVP
Asked specifically about Van Persie, Mancini said: 'Van Persie is not our player. He is an Arsenal or United player.

I don't think he's playing the same sort of mind games he did with the title run in.

I think he knows Van Persie wants to join us and no one else (of the clubs interested at least), and also knows that Arsenal are very reluctant to sell to us.

So, are Arsenal just dragging it out to try and get £20million~? I bet we're trying to haggle it at £15million or less still.

For an Arsenal fan's sake, if it was inevitable that he was coming to United, I'd want the deal done as early as possible. Lately, Arsenal seem to drag shit out and then make panic buys with the money they get.

Tapping up is never really punished anymore because it just makes sense to do it. What I hate is sanctimonious fellow Gooners moaning about it when it's clear we did it to Giroud and Cazorla in this summer alone.

It does, however, get irritating when a club tells all their existing players to talk up the potential signing in public. That's unnecessary.

They've sorted out their (attacking) purchases early.

Must be annoying as an Arsenal fan to see Busquets, Iniesta and now Pique comment about Song now.

Tbf I know how that feels, When Ronaldo was with us, every week there used to be a different Real Player telling him to fulfill his destiny.

 It's the vocabulary which is most annoying - destiny, dream, ideal, all of this bollocks.

I'm not worried about Song at the moment, he's still got 2 years(or 3 if you believe John Cross) and he'll stay.

RVP is apparently buzzing in training as well from Arsenal's best insiders. Make of that what you want.
