Robin van Persie

Wasn't overly convinced RvP was a big game player after watching him fail terribly at the Euros. Checked out some of his stats (I can't really count any other competitions as Arsenal haven't really got very far in any of them lately). They're decent, mainly beefed up from his great form last year.

RvP Scoring Record in the last 3 Seasons in the League:

Chelsea: 265 mins - 3 goals
United: 379 mins - 3 goals
City: 450 mins - 1 goal
Tottenham: 401 mins - 4 goals
Liverpool: 285 mins - 3 goals

RvP Scoring Record in the last 3 Seasons in the Champions League:

Group Goals: 627 mins - 5 goals
Last 16 Onwards: 326 mins - 2 goals

I think van Persie's age is an interesting factor. Not in the sense that he's too old to be spending loadsamoney on, but in that he fits the right profile for what we need right now - ready to play from the start, consistent in a way Hernandez and Welbeck aren't yet, but not likely to be around so long that he'll prevent either of those two from establishing themselves.

 What the feck? You are having a mental breakdown Drainy, 'a technical study with statistical analysis' for feck sake. All I asked was how many games you think he will start.

My tongue was firmly in cheek. I gave you my answer to that question and you didn't accept it.

If Welbeck is fit he'll make 30+ appearances in all comps next year. He'll be number one choice as a substitute for the out and out striker position (if he's on the bench) and can play across the attacking midfield 3- he'll get quite a of game time IMO.

Sir Alex isn't going to screw Welbeck over now, unless he doesn't sort out his contract.

barca have xavi, iniesta, busquet and yet they sign fabregas last summer. they also have messi, villa, pedro and then sign sanchez as well. it is not that they desperately need to sign these players, but they did to make them stronger(even if they end up not retaining the la liga and CL, but that is not the point here). the point here is they is always room for improvement, no matter how good you already are.

i am still believing that we need a central midfielder more than any other position just like most of us here, but it seems that fergei is no more interested in getting a proper CM these days. and signing a top striker, even thought we are already fine in this department at this moment, i mean it if it means that we are adding a world class striker into our team, then why not?

welbeck will has less time on the pitch for sure, but he will still play. the same goes for hernandez. berba is definitely not in fergei's plan anymore. so that leaves us with rooney, welbeck, hernandez and if we do get him, van persie as our strikers. that is a very scary quartet for any team to face.

I assume he's been in New York for the IPO.

That may well be, but I'm sure they have phones/fax machines etc in New York. Don't get me wrong, that wasn't a pop at Gill, it was more a pop at the title of the paper.

Aye, agreed.

Actually just read the article, says he was in London drumming up interest for the IPO.

“Of course he’s a player that I admire,” said Rooney.

“He’s a fantastic player, he’s been amazing for Arsenal over many years.

“Last season was probably his best season of all, he scored a lot of goals.

“If he does come here he would be a great addition to the squad.”

Asked if he and van Persie could play together, Rooney said: “I’d like to think so - but you’d have to ask the manager about that.

“There’s a lot of forwards here already with myself, [Danny] Welbeck, Chicharito and [Dimitar] Berba, who’s still here.

“So there’s a lot of forwards fighting for a place.”
..

Sorry deleted it now. Forgot to refresh before posting as I was a little sidetracked flashing kernels on my phone

Gill steps in. What has he been doing so far then?

a. I assume he's been in New York for the IPO. (Courtesy of SirAF)
b. Been on holiday; summer is the ideal time for him as there's no club business during the summer.
c. Looking for the key to the 'war-chest'.
d. Doing the laundry.
e. boue.
f. Gill was in London doing a 'roadshow' to promote the IPO. (Baby Faced Assassin)

Still can't see this coming out in our favour. RvP at United? Seriously??

I can't see how we can possibly not close this signing. Too many failed attempts, we need to save face.

He will be a class addition. feck that Lucas kid, this guy is the finished article. Incredible player.

You got blackmailed by Rooney, we're gonna screw RvP's feet to the floor.

Blackmailed to pay him the going rate for a top footballer?

A player Rooney produces a massive economic output for the club. Fair fecks he demanded a good cut of the pie.

Only rumours sop far, nothing concrete.

Fergusons comment make me pretty convinced that he knows something - he would never put pressure on Arsenal if he wasn't sure Van Persie was interested

So no news since SAF's interview?
I hope we get him tbh. Our front 4/3 will be amazing. Add to that Kagawa behind them

You got blackmailed by Rooney, we're gonna screw RvP's feet to the floor.

Isn't every contract re-negotiation a form of blackmail? Players would be on minimum wage if there was no chance they were ever gonna move elsewhere.

Anyway, you're probably right about Arsenal keeping hold of RvP. It's always proven so difficult in the past to entice the best players away from the Emirates, impossible at times, and I see no reason why this transfer in particular would be any different. It's the trophies you win, you see, who wants to give that up just to come play for a big club, eh?

This assumption that Rooney was suddenly offered the world - not Fergie's style. He was visited by a posse of the support who let him know he was loved, Fergie had a word and Colleen told him to stop pissing around and sign the deal.

RVP? you'll need to nail more than his feet to the floor - tired of losers.
