Robin van Persie

Arse have royally cocked up here. They could have offered him a new contract earlier on, and allowed him to write his name in the Club history books, becoming a legend in the process.

Instead, the greedy feckwits held out for their parent club, City to provide them with their annual wad of cash.

Only they then pissed the player off by doing so, and now City are toning down the financial doping, that leaves perennial skintarses United as the only viable option.

Inevitably, this will leave Arse with a player who doesn't want to be there, staying another year, then buggering off for nothing

Nice work

They've been trying to get him to extend for at least 15 months.

If the fee stays at £15m it's clear he'll stay at Arsenal

I reckon £22m will do it......what's the worst that could happen?

He stays and goes on a free next year...at least we don't need to pay him the increased offer we made which is a saving

Who will want him next year? You guys? Maybe the moment will have passed.....the guy is 29.......he doesn't have the strongest hand like a younger Nasri last year

Well done Arse Board......keep playing hard ball!

I guess if even if he stays but doesn't kick a ball for Arsenal this season he'd still have a fair few clubs after him next year. Certainly, if money is his only motivation he should be able to pick up a huge contract in China or the Middle-East.

I obviously don't have the emotional attachment, but surely just take the 15-20 million now and reinvest now therefore not making the same last minute panic buys as in previous years.

Arsenal are at least as likely to win a big pot as Man Utd next year. IF RvP goes it's for the cash.

God knows why you haven't been banned from the football forums. All you seem to do is try antagonise people with your incessant wumming. How can Arsenal possibly be 'at least as likely to win something'? It's like you're suggesting Arsenal's squad's as good as or better than 'Man Utd's'. And before you try turn this into some pathetic little dick swinging contest, it just is.

You'll be struggling to stay in the top 4, just as for several recent seasons past. If RvP goes, that struggle will just get more desperate.

He produced 53% of Arsenal’s 74 goals (30 goals, 9 assists) last season. Take that away, and couple it with your leaky defence, and you have big problems.

And Man Utd with zilch last year.

Same as Arsenal for the whole of RVP's time there.

Maybe he feels his 30 goals at Man Utd might win a trophy instead of battling for 3rd place.

Or maybe its just the money. Who knows? Certainly not us.

feck off you wanker you've been batting above your average thanks to Modric and Man City's benevolence with Adebayor. Get back in your 5/6 box.

Excellent post Peter.

Just substitute the Modric/Adebayor bit for Van Persie and change 5/6 for 3/4 and it sums up how people feel about you.

Don't know if I understood it correctly, but is Pete saying that Arsenal are at least our level right now? let alone the pedigree.

Every half sane player will choose Man Utd in terms of potential trophy claim.

feck off chum. You are no more likely than Arsenal to win a big pot this season.

Mods: Please step in here. This is starting to piss me (and I'm sure, others) off.

So no comment on the leaky defence and RvP's 53% of goals-produced?

Not surprising really, since losing RvP + 49 league goals conceded (only 3 less than West Bromwich Albion) would be/are two massive negatives that can't be spun into a positive.

Do you know what I find more annoying than fans of other sides?

The treatment that they are given when discussing football. Pete (an Arsenal fan) is suggesting Arsenal are just as likely to win a trophy (not an outlandish claim, despite what people may see), in a thread about an Arsenal player potentially joining United, and people are suggesting he should be banned from the football forums.

It's ridiculous, his claims are no way as ridiculous as half of those spouted by the United fans on here.

Arsenal are 3/1 to win any trophy. Odds against.

United are 4/5 to win any trophy. Odds on.

Of course, when Arsenal's best player leaves, the player who pretty much bailed them out all season, and if his destination is United, those odds will only pull further apart.

Storey's a betting man. He understands. No need to rub their predicament in further.

It is an outlandish claim! And it's not just this. Most posts I see of his seem to just be blatant wums. How exactly are Arsenal as likely to win a trophy, or even more likely, than us?? Then of course there's his "feck off you wanker" to Glaston. Seen infractions given for less.

I could understand him being biased towards Arsenal and their players, but half the time someone will say something obvious like, United are better than Arsenal, for him to come across and have an argument stating the contrary. It gets absolutely tiresome.

moving away from the pissing contest going on here... somebody sum up whats happened?

Basically, there's a rumour RVP might maybe sign for Utd so Arsenal fans are on here telling us he's not that great anyway just in case he does.

Is it outlandish to suggest we win nothing and they win the FA cup?

Think about it, how is that an outlandish possibility?

It could happen. Everton could also win the FA Cup and us win nothing. That doesn't mean it's 'at least as likely as Man Utd' does it?

The odds above suggest there's a 55% chance we'll win something, and just a 25% chance that Arsenal will. As stated, those odds will widen drastically if RVP leaves, more so if it's to United.

Yes. Think about when they last won a cup. Think about when we last won a cup

That's a load of bollocks, it makes no difference.

If you'd have looked at odds on who Lucas was gonna sign for 3 days ago they were much more in our favour than them. Just to be clear.

Arsenal fans have every reason to be positive for the coming season, especially if they manage to hang onto RVP, if Wilshere manages to get back to fitness they are just as likely as us to win a trophy.

They've managed to do very well so far in the transfer window so far, it's not really a silly claim once you get past being offended by him suggesting it

Odds on players signing are much more changeable. One story from a supposedly reliable source sends them plummeting. This on the other hand would only change with drastic signings from other teams.

Any information relating to past performance is not necessarily a guide to future performance.

Having a team thats won a cup in the past few years makes them more likely than a team who is yet to prove they wont bottle it like last time you were in a final. Its not nailed on, but one side is clearly more likely to win something than the other.

City were favourites for the FA cup semi they played us in, having not won anything in, erm, I forget how many years.

Spain were favourites for Euro 2008, they hadn't won anything in 20+ years.

Just saying like.
