RVP can whip in a ball cant he? Some cross for Rooney's goal. We need more crosses like that!

He was fantastic today. Not just in there to score the goal either, his all round game was brilliant. Think he could be the player that see's this team wrestle the title back

Our defense is will be the cause of us losing it.

He scuffed it, looks like he was aiming for the back post to me but he got too much of his foot around the ball.

How many shots did he take against Stoke? I think he's taking the 'I want to create more' thing quite seriously.

With that left foot of his, I want him being more selfish...have a go!

Another good game from him. Beautiful cross for the first goal and put Valencia's cross away very neatly

He very rarely makes mistakes IMO. His touches and involvements are usually quality. Just something about that first touch and left foot that separates him from most others. Fantastic cross and goal yesterday, and he hits a great corner as well.

Coupled with the fact that he hits off well with Rooney, and that he seems like a class act, I really cannot believe how lucky we were to get him.

And to think some people were questioning the logic in getting "an injury prone striker who is in his late 20's". We got him for only 24million as well, which IMO is a fantastic price for one of the best strikers in the world.

still though, I doubt anybody had anything against Van Persie, it's just that the majority were expecting a midfield signing and aquiring RvP seemed to have ended that possibility, I hardly think anyone would be stupid enough to downright say he/she doesn't want RvP because he's not good enough.

Exactly. Someone like Falcao is 2 and a half years younger which isn't really all that much and is considered to be worth £40m+. Van Persie was easily worth the price we paid and will score goals for us for the next 3-4 seasons easily.

He doesn't rely on a yard of pace either, obviously he's no slouch and he's a hard worker which let a former player down for us but it's his technique, intelligence and incredible finishing ability that sets him apart from the rest. He's a model professional too so he won't lose that edge for a good few years.

I don't think you will see him(on the pitch).

His technique is amazing. I always felt his best position was as a second striker, but his goalscoring record is second to none.

He has been a superb signing so far. I must admit, I thought it was a bit pointless buying him even though he had quality.

Norwich fans yesterday: ''He joined a big club, he joined a big club, Robin Van Persie, he joined a big club."

So true.

Triffic signing and cheap at the price. There's no substitute for class. I can't think of any defence in the prem that will be able to cope with him and Rooney.

I suppose one of the things to consider is that he doesn't rely on his pace in any way at all so could easily be one of thos strikers that play at the top level well into his 30s.

I suppose when you take that into account his age isn't as much of an issue.

It always helps that he's started excellently in terms of his goal return.

I don't think its worth starting a new thread, but purely based on ability where does everyone rate van Persie as a striker compared to others of the Ferguson era?

I think he's the best striker we've had along with van Nistelrooy, but I can only comment on strikers post 1996 as that's when I started to watch United. The 1999 four was immense as a collective but didn't have a stand out performer.

Cantona

RVP/Sheringham/Rooney

RVN/Hughes/Cole/Yorke/Ole

Missing a few there including a certain Argentinian and Cantona might be ahead more because of sentimentality but i think that's about right.

It's difficult because there's so much more than goals to just consider.

In terms of out and out strikers he'll do well to surpass RVN. He was just incredible. He was also very unlucky he was at the club during our most barren spell under Fergie.

I said it when we signed him; when others were wondering what the point was: on his own he will win you at least 5-10 points a season. He's already arguably at 5-6.

funnily enough, was looking at that very thing and came up with at least 5, considering the timing of the goals. Chav$ will be a good test and then just keep fingers crossed he stays injury free.
