Robin van Persie to consider his Manchester United future in summer
• Sir Alex Ferguson key factor in luring Dutchman from Arsenal
• Van Persie upset after Champions League defeat in Athens
Robin van Persie will consider his future at
Manchester United in the summer, with the Dutchman uncertain about continuing at the club.
Following United's
2-0 defeat at Olympiakos on Tuesday evening in the Champions League, Van Persie signalled his disquiet at his team-mates. He said: "Our fellow players are sometimes occupying the spaces I want to play in. And when I see that it makes it difficult for me to come to those spaces as well. So that forces me to adjust my runs, based on the position of my fellow players. And unfortunately, they're often playing in my zones. I think that's a shame."
While he was careful to defend the manager, David Moyes, it is understood that Van Persie was particularly disappointed when Sir Alex Ferguson, Moyes's predecessor, retired at the end of last season. Ferguson was a key factor in Van Persie agreeing to sign for United from Arsenal in the summer of 2012, even though Manchester City had offered him a higher salary.
As in his final season at the Emirates, Van Persie had a virtually injury-free campaign last year, with his goals crucial to Ferguson claiming a 20th title for United. This season, though, Van Persie has been blighted by injuries and with the summer's World Cup in Brazil potentially the 30-year-old's last one, he is keen to be in prime condition for the tournament.
Van Persie, who cost £24m, will have two years left on his contract at the end of this season.
