That would be great esp. as I think Januzaj should get a rest now after playing far too many games during the last month or so.

Neil Custis was on Talksport last spreading scurrilous rumours about RVP's willingness to play for the eam and the strain this might be putting on his relationship with Moyes.

He claimed that Van Persie has been fit in the eyes of the United medical staff for some time yet refuses to declare himself fit for matches. Custis believes that the player would be out on the pitch were SAF still in charge, and that he compares unfavourably with Rooney.

The Mail, which I never read, had a photo of RVP (and Rooney) enjoying themselves in training yesterday. Robin certainly looked happy enough.

Stopped reading at Neil Custis.

Not really, but I should have.

RvP is one of the most professional players in world football, you think he'd do something like that?

Was listening to that. Custis is a slimy feck.

He said everything he possibly could to suggest that there was a problem between Van Persie and Moyes, but then tried to cover his arse by claiming there is no suggestion of a rift.

I am assuming that it was interpreted kindly on this occasion then? Hm, it won't last. ;)

It was amusing to hear him suddenly throwing in all of these qualifications after five minutes of claims expressed with such certainty. I wonder if he was at Sun HQ and somebody gave him a kick halfway through the the interview.

I don't think it is unfair to suggest that the return of players this season hasn't always been managed in the best way possible, so i can understand that RVP might want to be tested as rigorously as possibly before waling out onto the pitch this time [his history with injuries must be a psychological factor if nothing else].

 what a moron.

RvP starves himself for goals. He's a crazy animal if he doesn't score. You think he would actually not come out and play? Ridiculous rumor.

He's in 2nd gear right now, walking around, yet he's been our best player. Shows how much class the guy has got, and back at full fitness he will be on fire.

He's made the difference. If Welbeck/Hernandez was playing instead it would have been 0-0 with no goal in sight.

How he manages to still be brilliant with that shower of shite supporting cast I'll never know.

Amazing player, a couple of classes above the 21 other footballers on the pitch.

I almost forgot how good he is, ridiculous. They are shooting the ball at him and he controls it with ease.

He's class. Him Rooney and Mata are in the top 5 best players in the league ability-wise. Get a decent midfield behind them and they will be a joy to watch

Not unless we try to play a different style of football. You could have Ronaldo and Messi alongside RvP and we would still play the ball out for Evra or Valencia to cross it.

Crossing the ball into Ronaldo would be awful. I hope we're spared that.

Agreed. Moyes said he wants to play more exciting football but he obviously needs the right personnel. If we get a cm or two in thia summer I hope we will move to a more modern style.

With Mata, Januzaj, RvP, Rooney, Kagawa etc I don't think it's a question of personell anymore.

Of course, but you still need a good midfield to offer support going forward and balance when we defend. It's difficult to play modern short passing football with jones and Giggs in cm.

Even if rusty, unfit and in a misfiring side, it's so obvious what he brings to our game. We go up several levels just having him available to pass to. His hold up play is unbelievable, his one touch passing is better than any of our forwards (bar perhaps Nani) and he is a very underrated dribbler - the ball is always under his control. He's just so assured in the way he plays, and keeps it so well. He contributes so much even if not scoring, in different ways than say Rooney would if he wasn't scoring. It's great to have him back.

He's on another stratosphere to the others. Must be pretty sad for him to have to play with the likes of Valencia and Cleverley.

His hold up play is second to none.

Because our play is slow and lethargic it's such an underrated asset. He'll score a shit load if he stays fit and they'll come from 1 or 2 chances a game if he's lucky.

I think a few people have forgotten just how good this guy is. Still the best player at the club, for me.

Yeah it's really great to have him back. It was getting a bit ridiculous the way people were underrating him, claiming there won't be a big difference because welbeck was in decent form. He's not even close, in any aspect of his game. I'm not sure if he's the best player, him and Rooney (and now Mata) are all at a similar level in my opinion, but how great is it to have 3 undoubtedly world class players playing. The last month or so we had to put up with bang average players, with only Januzaj showing some creativity or skill.

There was a moment in first half when Jones did a Jones and rifled the ball into him from about 5 yards and Van Persie just stopped it dead. Class.

He would be as effective as Aguero / Suarez if he was in either the City or Liverpool side IMO. Vastly better footballing sides than us.
