Anyone hear 'Arry Redknapp on 5 Live last night? The minute the story broke, he was their to give his reaction to the transfer. Beeb have his number on speed dial. Or vise versa.

feck off - Hernandez can't play football, he's as likely to sign for Arsenal as Defoe.

I think if RvP can stay fit then he'll be close to being top scorer again.

Finish top goal scorer and United win the league, including a hat-trick against your shite team?

You better fecking hope not.

The only silver lining I can see from this deal is thank goodness you've blown the budget on a non-central midfielder again like last summer. Still time in the window I know - but the cash?

I know we're trying to get rid of Berba, and the sooner the better (although a bit unjust to him), but think of the current situation, we've got a 5th choice striker that could realisticaly start in any team outside the top 5/6, "greedy much"?

From an Arsenal forum:

We can either be run like Liverpool where we blew all our money and then not have enough to build our stadium and then put ourselves up for sale. Or we did things the way we did, everyone knew the stadium meant we would have to sacrifice a lot and it was made worse with the recession as a lot of property deals didn't give us the kind of returns we had hoped for. So it hasn't been easy but have you seen Wenger cry about lack of funds, no he has just got on with it and no other manager imo would of kept us where we have. The man has worked miracles for us and I think if we demand loyalty maybe we should show some back because it isn't like he is blowing our funds on stupid transfers. Look at signings in recent years like Carzola, Giroud, Podolski, Arteta, Koscienly & Vermaelen for example all bought at good prices and the latter three have come good for us and hopefully the first three will as well. This summer as well I think we have seen a shift in emphasis as to the type of player Wenger has gone for and we might see our game tweaked more. I'm looking forward to this season, I am not sure if we will win anything major but I do think we will improve a fair bit.

I don't agree with everything that has happened and myself have been quite annoyed and lost faith in the management especially as we have sold so many players and not bought enough in and also the ownership issues but maybe before jumping the gun we should see this transfer window out and then judge the squad.

I think you're missing the bigger picture.

feck the cash. This barely makes a dent in the huge commercial revenues the club keep tying up. What's the point of signing unprecedented commercial deals with Chevrolet if we can't flutter it away on shiny new players?

You don't pass up an opportunity to sign the league's best player for £15m. I mean we could have added another £20m and gone after Andy Carroll but we're not that lucky, and Ferguson didn't have Dalglish's foresight. So we'll make do with RvP, ho hum.

I think people will be pleasantly surprised by the efficacy of our midfield with a proper schemer like Kagawa operating in front on it. All it's ever needed is a bit of a catalyst.

Just realised that Van Persie is pretty much a Ronaldo replacement. He offers pretty much the same threat as Ronaldo did in his last two seasons, yet at not quite the same standard (and slightly different in terms of his position, though Ronaldo was pretty much a forward then). The finishing, the goals from range, set piece ability, etc...

Must admit, I've been giddy about this signing all night. I'm still unsure as to whether I'd have preferred for us to stick with the attacking players we had, but it's just mental that we've added a player of this quality to what was already a brilliant unit. With two signings, at least on paper, it's put us back somewhere near that 07/08 / 08/09 team in an attacking sense.

Rooney, Van Persie, Kagawa, Nani, Valencia, Welbeck

Rooney, Tevez, Ronaldo, Nani, Giggs, Berbatov

Very similar level of quality.

It's going to take some serious getting used to, talking about him as our own.

I still want to down talk him in comparison to Rooney, natural bias

:D

I wonder, though, if RVP will have an OT debut instead?

True, may be wise to bed him in a bit if only in training before playing. We'll have to make do with Kagawa behind Rooney with Nani and Valencia on the wings. :(

I'm still getting used to the idea of not hating him, feels weird calling him ours, van the feckin' man.
Still shocked to be honest, really did not see it happening.

We're tragically deprived. :(

:D

Well I was finding it hard to get excited about the new season but I have to say, if RvP is playing this weekend, I'll be glued to my TV :D

I doubt Arsenal would play him even if he hasnt signed by then.

What makes this better is that Van Persie was never really a cnut, as opposition players often are. He was always classy, never said anything stupid, and kept to himself. A good professional. Always found it very difficult to hate him, especially when he's such a good footballer.

I'd imagine all of our attacking players will benefit from playing alongside him.

That I actually disagree with..
In his early days, when he had just joined Arsenal, he was always getting into brawls and fights and was a total hot head.

I remember thinking he was acting like a cnut last year but I can't remember what the incident was. Anyway it was the type of thing you don't give a shit about if it's your player and exaggerate when it's not. I'm sure I'll have no trouble learning to like him.

Despite knowing this was coming for ages, its going to be fecking bizarre to see him in a United shirt.
