Multi quote time.....
When Fabregas left for Barca I was upset but I didn't hold it against him (even though he was being a cnut), when Henry left I was upset but I didn't hold it against him but I will hold it against RvP. Those two in their time at Arsenal gave us everything and their commitment to us on the pitch was undeniable, they scored and set up countless goals and repaid any faith the club had shown them. However RvP on the other hand though his early disciplinary issues, the rape case we were the club who stuck by him and no other club showed any interest. Before the last couple of seasons he was averaging 21 league appearances a season and many of those were as sub because his fitness wouldn't allow for him to play 90minutes. He is a cnut because despite all the loyalty the club showed him in his bad times when Arsenal are going through a bad period suddenly he doesn't owe us anything anymore. We could of cut our losses on him years ago but I remember reading a while back we were the ones who spent a lot of time off the pitch re-modelling his game and how he kicked the ball to stop his recurrent injury problems. Just say last season he had scored 15 goals I bet no club would of been interested but he has a great season and all of a sudden this club isn't good enough for him yet through his bad times we were the club who stood by him. His qualities as a player are unquestionable, he is more of a poacher now with the ability to pull something special out of the hat and I think he will do well for your lot.
I'm not annoyed at him joining Man Utd, better there than Man City I'm just annoyed him for the way he is treating Arsenal Football Club. Have a look at this quote from just over a year ago
I don’t have the inclination to go anywhere,’ he said. ‘This is the best team for me to be in. The bottom line is that I want to win trophies with Arsenal, not with anybody else. I know you can win trophies in many countries and in many ways, but I want to do that in our way and in an Arsenal shirt.
I’m sure I could win things at another team in another country, but would it feel like our trophy, my trophy? I’m not sure it would. Anything we win here will come from the heart and that’s what I want. It’s my dream and I see no point in speaking about other teams when I have these dreams. I think other people know that about me; I’m just hungry to win with Arsenal and that’s it.
So he can win his hollow trophies at Man Utd now
You can't blame the fella for wanting to win trophies.
I don't disagree.....
Why do people keep pretending Van Persie's only been good for a couple of seasons? He was widely considered one of the best/most talented players in the league almost half a decade ago. Considered by many Arsenal fans to be at the same level as Torres and Rooney 3 years ago.
Who is pretending anything? He has only been at his current level for 1.5 seasons, before that it was more flashes of brilliance but nothing sustained at all.
He has come here to win trophies, Arsenal would have paid him the earth to stay but he has ambition. Hardly a mercenary.
Arsenal wouldn't pay him £225k....
This is what Pete said but I would expect better from you as you're one of those sane Arsenal fans. Think about it once again, I suppose. You haven't won the bloody thing in what 8 years? the guy is coming to 30 and doesn't have anything to show for it basically.
Is that so difficult?
He was at a club who hasn't won a trophy in 7 years. He's 29 years old and wants to win trophies. He'd have earned more money at City I'm sure of.
He's hardly a mercenary.
I'll answer both of these together.
I'm sure he will win trophies at Man utd and a much higher chance of winning trophies there than with us but that isn't what my problem is now is it? Refer to my opening paragraph as to the other points
You say he would of earned more at City, well where was the Man City bid then? Their interest died off weeks ago when Mancini was told he couldn't sign another striker on mega wages as they have Augero, Tevez, Balotelli, Dzeko, Adebayor & Roque Santa Cruz all on their books and on wages which are well in excess of £150k a week. Man City wasn't an option so lets not make it out like he has taken a pay cut to join Man Utd, his wages have probably gone up 3x by joining your lot hence my mercenary comments. Those were the best wages on offer to him as Juve wouldn't be able to cough up that much for him
all the gooners calling him mercenary....think about how many loyal years he gave the club....and over the last 7 years he has been frustrated with the lack of trophies.
He could have easily joined City. Instead he choose to join a proper club who can fulfill his ambition.
Loyal years, are you on the wind up there mate? The only party here showing the loyalty was Arsenal Football Club. He joined the club who offered him the best deal, Manchester Football Club.
Can't blame gooners for being bitter. I'd be bitter as feck. Hard to be logical at times like this.
To be fair mate I'm not even that bothered, if we hadn't got Podolski, Giroud and Carzola I would be but I'm actually really excited for once and I do think a couple more signings and this will be a very good transfer window for us. I think we will look a more compact side and Carzola's creativity will really benefit us. I do think Gervinho will improve on last season and also Oxlade will be a better player. With Wilshire to come back in I'm looking forward to things.
A lot of RvP's goal contrary to what people think weren't him smashing it in from 20 yards out, a lot were tap ins that were put on a plate by our players. Albeit his movement in the box made those tap ins, for me that is one of his his best qualities, somewhere where he has improved so much in recent years. Though as we saw with his goals against Liverpool and Everton my god he can score goals most couldn't dream of! Look at his movement and how he peels off defenders in those moves as well.
Apparently the 24m bit is coming from Arsenal while United are saying its 15m+7m addons.
I can see why Arse would want to make it seem they got more for selling their captain to a rival.
I think we would have less of a reason to make it up.
Unless its from an official source, we'd never know... but I wouldnt be surprised if it was 15m+7 addons (which would be very realistic addons and not something crazy)..
So potentially 20m+
Is coming from BBC actually not Arsenal, I'd be inclined to believe it was £22mill because I think Man utd seemed more desperate to sign him than we were to sell.
No, because Nasri was 24, and was at Arsenal for 2 and a half years.
RVP has been at Arsenal for 7 years, and is 29.
Plus one left for a club flushed by oil money, and a wage unlikely to be matched anywhere else, with no history of success, and the other has left for a prestigious club with a hugely successful history, and most likely less than others (City, PSG, Chelsea) could have offered him.
But those clubs didn't offer him more and it may of escaped your attention had no intention to offer him more, his best offer came from Man Utd hence why he took it, I suppose because of Man Utd's prestigious history that makes him not a mercenary...
