I thought he was alright today, hes still not scoring though and saying hes not getting the service isn't the full story, he has been getting some service.

Fantastic is obviously way OTT, but he wasn't poor today, good free kick after all, but world class players are expected to take games by the scruff of the neck, like he did last season at Arsenal, even if he did peter out a bit near the end.

I'm surprised at this drought, its not like it looked like it was coming.

It's a mirror of Berbatov's 2010/2011 season. A lovely technical player who scored plenty of goals but has let us down time and time again in the crucial matches. He failed us against Real Madrid, Chelsea, and now Manchester City. He is scared to make an impact, and his shooting is so embarrassingly far from the standards he showed earlier in the season when the pressure was lower.

His record in Champions League knockout matches is utterly appalling, while Rooney's is exceptional, yet the manager dropped the player who has proven himself on such a stage. Chicharito has also suffered from the manager's decisions. He is not in the class of van Persie, but he has a wonderful attitude and has scored countless crucial goals for the club. Welbeck and Kagawa are also suffering from the manager's decision to sign an unneeded luxury player.

Now Ferguson makes a fool of himself defending his new toy when he's in dreadful form. Ferguson's loyalty to this player is costing us dearly, I would not be surprised to see van Persie finish the season without scoring again, he simply cannot handle the pressure.

Whilst I agree hes in poor form, he has hardly been unneeded, you could conceivably be a lot closer to City without him.

lol

Yeah, he did feck all at Stamford Bridge and the Etihad earlier this season in the league.

Some fecking idiotic posts on here tonight.

Van Persie scores against Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, City and Spurs in one season yet he's a luxury player who only scores when the pressure's off. Ok.

Van Nistelrooy never managed that feat and failed to score against Porto and Milan in two of the three biggest CL knockout ties we played in, but you'd be absolutely mad to say he was anything other than outstanding for us.

Another assist tonight and occupied Nastasic all game. Wicked delivery on that goal.

His hold up play doesn't seem to be recognised unless he scores a goal. Not saying he had a fantastic performance today but I find it hard to be harsh on him or Rooney when they had absolutely no help today.

I honestly don't know where to begin with this post!

Jesus. Absolutely top-class hold-up play, just like at the Bernabeu.

Not nearly as good IMO. He was brilliant at the Bernabeu but he wasn't as involved today, and lost the ball a few more times. Was okay, but nothing more. Certainly not fantastic.

How can a person be so wrong in one post?

That's what I thought, time and time again RVP got lumped the ball in hopeless positions and kept possession despite the attention of 3 or 4 players, got dick all service in the box as per the last month and didn't score, so he's shit, obviously.

It's not like he missed a sitter a la Chelsea game, he just didn't get a chance.

He's going through one of the longest goaless streak I've ever seen from a United striker. Since the start of the year he hasn't scored a single goal for us. Its quite amazing how he is finishing the season.

Really? Don't remember Rooney in the 10-11 season then?

Apart from his corner deliveries, I don't think he was any better or worse than he has been recently.

I'm sorry but that's just a ridiculous and terrible post. Yeah, Van Persie has basically led us to the title but he was a luxury and unneeded player. If he wasn't here I'm sure the opposition would be trembling at the thought of Danny Welbeck leading the line for us! Such is the finishing that he has.

In all seriousness, Van Persie is one of the best strikers in world football who has carried us to the position we are in now, won us game after game in the first half of the season when others were out injured or off form.
Even now, when he's lost some goalscoring form, his dribbling and hold up play is brilliant and something not one of our other players could do. Probably only Nani has dribbling that could match him.

Absolutely no service for him in and around the box to feet where he shrives.

Why we buy technically gifted forwards, then proceed to just hoof the ball into the box I wi never know.

At this rate we would be better off with llorente and crouch upfront, they might have a chance of actually getting on the end of a cross.

Feel sorry for rvp. He is getting stick but never realistically had a chance to even mess it up today

And to be fair that's behind this drought... seriously.. the fecking service has been absolute SHITE.... for the last few months bar a carrick beauty ball other than that... feck ALL.

this is definitely a wum. if not, ive been a big critic of his form lately but there is just so much wrong with this post that i read it twice to make sure it wasnt just that im tired and have been staring at a screen so long. how do you go about getting it so utterly wrong. like what frame of reference are you using that is so incredibly different from every other person on the planet. did you think anders breivik might just have had a point? or mick philpott has been a bit misunderstood? i wont even try rationalise the stupidity.

if not a wum, easily worst post of the year.

i think possibly a strong case for the worst service ever received by a united striker under ferguson. wingers should be ashamed of themselves or at least a little embarrassed picking up about 12m between them over the course of the season

Keep forgetting GIFS are banned in here.

I didn't think he was as good as Fergie said. He was ok. It was an improvement on recent games, which isn't exactly hard as he has been pretty damn poor recently. He does not look like scoring at all.

Aye. Precisely what I mean. Perhaps we have got carried away with his brilliant start. He was finishing half-chances with ease then.

We literally gave him nothing. I understand the criticism when you miss easy chances. It was the same at Sunderland bar the miss at the end.

I doubt city fans are saying tevez was shite for them. He probably registered only one shot on goal.

The drop in form of RVP is a huge concern. Last night again i thought he could have done better with the opportunities. He got the delivery right from the free-kick but the corners were disappointing, i dont think that Rooney is on the same wavelength.

Those criticizing RVP should keep in mind that it's his seemingly non stop scoring in the first half of the season that ensured more than anything else you winning the title this season.

We know that antihenry, it's just frustrating a player like him being for whatever reason so impotent these last few weeks. In the first half of the season, each time he was shaping up for a shot there was a scoring expectancy and if not that he'd work the keeper hard.

The only real shot he had in the first half, I don't know if it's just me and even if the chance wasn't easy by any means, when he was about to take it at no moment I thought he might hit the target.

The entire attacking play is sadly shit these days without singling out players.

What fecking opportunities? he was feeding on scraps.

There was a couple of them really. He dragged a shot wide in the first half and Giggs played a cross to him in the second where he missed from about 6 yards, on his left foot as well. He's normally so lethal when presented with those chances
