So that's a no, then?

You don't need to beat around the bush.

That's a yes. You said nearly every week, and this season bar a game or maybe 2 he has been in great form so far.
The Everton game he was poor, but in all fairness so was everybody else, and that's about it regarding games in which he was poor.

Interesting. So out of 38 games you'd say he'd be your MOTM 32 times or so?

That's the view I called rubbish.

Rather ironic that I'm the one called biased given the original opinion.

My mistake then, have we played 38 games this season?

And stop trying to put words in my mouth to try and help yourself prove a point.

My mistake, have we played 38 games this season?

Who is talking about this season alone?

This is the original statement

The guy produces man of the match performances nearly every game

That's a generic statement. And it's completely nonsensical. And saying it is nonsensical is not even a criticism of Rooney. It's a criticism of the poster.

Why are you both debating something someone else said when he's not even around? :p

A very over the top statement to say the least.

If Manchester United splits into two camps, like a civil war, with Rooney supporters on one side, and Van Persie supporters on the other, I will take up arms and wear Rooney's colours with pride.

Hopefully that wont happen though and we will continue to be allowed to like and support both.

It's being debated because laughing at that statement is apparently "putting down Rooney". Fanbois being oversensitive and missing the point, basically.

Its a ridiculous thing to say ofcourse but i dont think Rooney is overrated here as you said. He is a quality footballer. You'l get the odd over the top statement though.

Believe me, if all you did was laugh at that particular statement we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I think most star players are overrated by their club's fans. Whether it's Terry or Rooney or Lampard or Gerrard or whoever. It doesn't mean he's not a brilliant player. I just think that's the nature of football fans. These players have a huge fanbase out of whom some/many can go over the top and probably naturally so.

Oh then what was the "all I did"? You're seriously oversensitive about this topic. You sound like I've shot your pet.

Yeah ofcourse, am not saying everybody is fair in their assessment, just that the majority are. Few overrate him here on the caf. Likewise, his importance to the club and his qualities are downplayed here by some too. Just the way it goes i guess.

Jesus fecking christ, some people.
I replied to your post because I remember you have a tendency to put Rooney down. Did I go nuts on here calling you names, etc? I don't think so.
Simply stating the obvious. Get your head out of your ass.

I tend to think Rooney is more accurately 'rated' by opposition fans more so than Utd fans, discounting scousers of course.

I think you'd have to discount more fans than just scousers. United is after all one of if not the most hated club out there.
The best thing to do would be letting unbiased football fans vote, but that's a rarity, not to mention those who don't have even the basic knowledge of football shouldn't really be allowed to vote.

I think that our fans are more harsh on Rooney because they analyse his every movement in every game, and as we know, he can be prone to giving the ball away etc and this leads to people criticising him for it. Other fans, however, won't scrutinise his every move, and won't be as upset when he does the slightest thing wrong.

It's true of us and opposition players too. I think we rate Yaya Toure more than City fans, because they tend to notice and be infuriated by his lack of stamina more so than us, because we just see the good he does, and the damage he does to us.

Of course it's not completely like this but it is a relevant point IMO.

Are we? Maybe in the UK because they're all jealous of our success, but certainly Worldwide Utd are an extremely well respected club.

FWIW, most non-United fans I know think Rooney is as amazing as most of us on here do. In fact, I more often hear the criticism that we are over-reliant on Rooney - a "one man team", if you will - than I hear people saying we overrate him. I hear people say the rest of our team is a bit average, but not him so much.

People do both when it suits.

When Rooney plays well 'One man team, over reliant on him'
When he plays badly, and especially for England 'Over rated, never reached his potential'

Right, so you were responding to my old posts by quoting a current one. That makes sense.

So, where in the original post did I put him down again?

Non United fans definitely rate Rooney higher than we do.

Yes, but mostly those who just follow our results without watching games.

For example, most of my friends who watch United regulary don't rate Rooney that high, but those who follow us just by looking livescores or highlights are saying he is our best player by miles.

United might have the biggest fanbase for all we know, but for every fan there's also a hater. Jealousy and hatred is often a product of success.
Out of all my friends/people I know personaly there are no more than 4 United fans including me, while pretty much everyone else despises United, basicaly I'm in a real minority over here.

Non United fans definitely rate Rooney higher than we do.
Some do, some don't. It's not the case for everyone.

Funny how it's almost like the exact opposite in my case. Regarding my friends, an Arsenal fan and a City fan who are into football as much as I am and watch a good number of games both rate him very highly, infact both said hands down he's the best player in the PL. While some other mates who aren't really that much into football but mostly follow scores keep saying he's overrated.

Something's not right here

How many here underrated van Persie until he came here?
Me for one. Yet I've also been critical of Rooney because I think he has not improved the way I thought he would.
He has improved though, and in way that benefits our team more, in an area we have struggled to fill.

Guilty. But not in the sense that I didn't rate him. I always thought very highly of him, but apparently not highly enough going by what we're seeing from him in a United shirt :).

I personally didn't rate Van Persie too highly prior to 2011. I'll get my coat.

I used to hate Van Persie because I thought he looked a smug twat. Over the last two years or so I've grown to admire his ability and of course now I love him

He was always class when he played, he just didn't play often enough

That's the thing. I remember a few Arsenal fans calling him the best striker in the league, and I was just skeptical as feck.

So you can't point out where I just put Rooney down. Basically, you fecked up.

As for this thread, I think you'd find more people here who underrated RvP prior to his move to us. I think it is generally the case that fans tend to overrate their own players rather than those of other clubs, mainly due to the emotional attachment. It's completely natural as well.

It's probably down different views from commentators on our Sportklub's, Slovenian commentators probably praise him more then Serbian* do. :D

*I watch Sportklub Serbia in Bosnia.

They don't. And honestly, there are no worse commentators than our own. They've all got their heads up Real and Barca's asses, seriously there isn't one game that they tell you anything that makes sense. It's just horrible honestly, it's gotten to the point where I'd rather listen to some saudi arabian commentators if it means I don't have to suffer through the nonsense that ours spew out.

Clearly Rooney is the better player since RVP has been dropped tonight :nono:

Oh don't give me that, you know you like to pounce whenever you get a chance to. You find one post where somebody says something irrational and point it out like that's how deluded Rooney fans are.

I agree that he doesn't play like a beast every game, I agree that he's not on Messi or Ronaldo's level, I'm not trying to be unreasonable here, I just find it a bit weird that you feel the need to downplay his skill/importance so often. I'm not a stalker so I know feck all about what else you comment on here, but I know that regarding Rooney you and I can't agree.

I admitted to underrating RvP, there's nothing wrong in admitting you made a mistake. Honestly even though I always rated him, it took me a couple of games in a United shirt from him to really open my eyes.
Although to be fair it is circumstantial, I mean had he come into our squad at a different time opinions might be very different, there's a lot of things to factor in regarding change of opinion like this.

I must admit Serbian are quite good, well informed, and there is no nonsense talking during the game. There are always some goofs, but overall they are very good.

don't. just don't.
I know you're kidding but this could actualy "spark something", and I think it's better for everyone if we don't go down that road

We have the Obrez brothers (both commentators, both huge Barca/Messi fans) who are probably the definition of crap crapped out, eaten and crapped out again by crap.
They always go on and on about stuff that doesn't concern the game in any way, and no mather who's playing, they'll always find a reason to mention Barca and Messi in there atleast 10-15 times a match.

Granted other commentators aren't exactly as bad as these 2, but they're not much better.
They tell you nothing important or educative, and they can't even get the offside/foul calls right, like EVER.

I was thinking that as I wrote 'white text' - debating with myself if it was really needed, and then deciding it was better not to risk not having it included
