Roberto Firmino

Nope. As Sports Witness noted we have been linked to him since end of last year. Also Bild showed a picture of our German scout in the box with his agent at a Hoffenheim game. We've scouted him extensively. So it's not just based on one guy's word
We have someone scouting Germany?

From @schwalbe

Hey izec, since i'm a newbie i can't post in the regular thread so i'll just write you here.

I don't know where those numbers come from but the reported 18mil € for Firmino are most likely BS. The Hoffenheim officials already said that it's very likely that he moves to another league and stated in the same interview that a price of 30 mil € is "not unrealistic"(quote from the Hoffenheim CEO Peter Rettig). For 18 he would be already at Bayern.

Why are we buying a number 10? unless LVG is gonna convert him to a centre half

If Mata leaves that would be a good move, he is more second striker than 10 and he has the physical attributes that Mata lacks.

LvG loves AMs that are nimble footed, pacey and has an eye for goal. It seems Firmino and Depay would reinforce that. In particular Firmino might replace Fellaini in starting 11

You can see why LvG would like him. Can score goals but with runners either side of him, he can setup plenty more.

Oh yes fecking please.

As expected...

As expected in what way? Thing is it's been confirmed we've been scouting someone at Hoffenheim since around end of last year. Peter Braund (our scout) has been pictured at a Hoffenheim game with an agent belonging to the agency firm Firmino is with. Also, last year we told a lot of journos that we're not interested in X player only for us to sign that player a few days later.

I wouldn't put any faith in any UK based journalists. We provide no information to them, the only information journalists get about our targets is from the players/agents.

As expected in the sense that United deny near enough every rumour. So basically what you just said.

No actually good, creative number 10s are going to provide the same defensive contribution as Fellaini. Literally none of them. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be replacing him in that position. Ideally we'll be getting someone like Schneiderlin to do the defensive work, so that our attacking midfielder can concentrate on playing
I know how you feel about it, but I'm simply making the point that LVG wants balance and thus isn't likely to have a number 10 with v little defensive contribution in his midfield 3 - or else he would have just played Mata there? So everyone on here has opinions and last season were posting teams with mata and kagawa CM, question is whether its realistic based on our manager, and the answer is it isn't because he will want balance.

That said you would expect firmino could still get enough games in the front 3 positions, I just really don't expect us to sign him as a CM as it's such a square peg in a round hole

Play Di Maria, Depay and Firmino up front. Trickery and pace of that front 3 would be very hard to deal with for opposition.

Yeah, it's obvious at this point that Ogden, Jackson and gang are just pretending to have some inside knowledge but in reality they don't know shite.

The denials were inevitable...I just wanna go back to the time when Fergie/Gill were at the helm and we would be told that they were happy with the squad and we would not be buying anyone rather than being told every other player is on the verge of joining Utd.

You'd think that the fee jumping around signals bullshit

SkyGermany said €30m which translates to £18m. So that's where the conflicting amounts could have come from.

To be fair, SAF and Gill would play up transfers at the start of the window and after we've not really done in the window then they'd use that excuse.

Yep. My mates a UK journo following this story and he's got nothing. Despite that, he just published a story based mainly on the stuff in this thread.

Exactly, they still need to post stories. But it's just they're not using inside information and having to rely on external sources. Tough job.

You can let your friend know that my scouting talents are available for a decent price.

The only time he ever has genuine inside info seems to be for North East clubs, which is where he's based. That seems to be a good rule of thumb with these journos, if it's not their local clubs they probably don't know much.

----------Herrera-----------Schneiderlin-----------------
-------------------Firmino----------------------------
Mata----------------------------------Depay
------------------Benteke----------------------------

Rooney and Fellaini to content with Firmino and Benteke

Di Maria to content with Mata

Young to content with Depay

Herrera and Schneiderlin to content with Gündogan, Carrick and Blind and Carrick to be put on the shortlist of players that can retire in the near future

I have a good feeling about this one, think it's happening. Never seen him play myself I don't think but have heard good things.
