Roberto Firmino

NOt to mention Fellaini - could he be sold?

I think fellaini is a solid plan B but he should not start for MUFC.
I was thinking that mata would be moved into the cam/cf role behind Rooney but if firmino is bought perhaps that is not what LVG is thinking.

ADM has stated he wants to stay here but if psg wants him and will trade Veratti for him that would work out even better for us IMO.

Doesn't seem like he'd bring anything close to the defensive contribution of fellaini in the 10 role which tells me LVG wouldn't be comfortable, but if he could play 7/9/11 for the quoted price it is a good deal

No actually good, creative number 10s are going to provide the same defensive contribution as Fellaini. Literally none of them. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be replacing him in that position. Ideally we'll be getting someone like Schneiderlin to do the defensive work, so that our attacking midfielder can concentrate on playing

That is exactly why I think we need a player like schniderlin in our team, he would allow Herrera and gundogan(?) to be free to be creative and play to their potential.

Schneiderlin is a bit of a no brainer signing really isnt he.
Gives us a good defensive version of fellaini basically.
Experienced and proven in the league where you need players like that too.

Carrick, hererra and mata would probably be fine in the champions league against most teams, they'd just have a hard time with some pretty mediocre players in this league imo

So is there anything in this Firmino rumour? I just did a Google search, and about 5-6 notices popped saying United had signed him (granted, most of them looked to be sources of the 'caught offside' variety, but I was still surprised at how many came up.)

http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/...dical-ahead-of-transfer-to-manchester-united-

It says that agents have confirmed Hoffenheim's Firmino is having or was having a medical at Brazil's national team camp for a move to Manchester United. So we asked a follower of ours, Vinicius Furlan, who works for ESPN Brazil and who RT'd the claim if he knew the guy who tweeted it.

He told us 'Yes. Brazilian Journo that just entered ESPN. Former Corinthians player, Zé Elias.'

When we asked if it was definitely him, we were told 'Absolutely.'

Former footballers in Brazil do have a habit of spreading transfer news which may not be completely true, a bit like in Europe. We've searched the Brazilian media and can't find anything else to back it up but Manchester United were linked heavily recently and did send a scout to watch the player in action for Hoffenheim. At the time it was our opinion that Firmino's agents were trying to sell the attacking midfielder to Manchester United.

Manchester United's Germany scout Peter Braund was pictured in a Hoffenheim box owned by Rogon, the company who represent Firmino. Not only was he at the match and in the agent's box but he was photographed with Paul Koutsoliakos, Rogon licensed agent. The same agents later met Manchester City.

Real muppet signing. Looks a good buy at that price. Also he is just 23, so can learn and grow. Waiting for it to get confirmed!

Agreed to what Van Der Star said. Rather have him play some good football for 3-4 years and then it is upto him. You cannot control what players want!

I agree, the best thing is probably keep the squad stocked with these types of players, so when one does eventually leave, theres a couple more that will cover the loss.

If we could sign him and Schneiderlin before we begin our Summer tour it'd be great, especially if the intention was to play Firmino up front. Three players (Depay as well) with the set of skills that was clearly missing in our team. Then get Otamendi and somehow find a right back good enough available (Carvajal, maybe even Clyne would suffice now) and we'll have had brilliant Summer.

I watched few Brazil game recently and I was never impressed by him. I was impressed, or you can say, we all saw some potential in Neymar before and then concretised it with Barca, but I very doubt Firmino is the kind of striker, forward we're looking for.

Few month ago he played as s lone striker against France and was very poor. Rooney is miles away, and RVP too. I guess is better as a second striker

If LVG wans to sign him, then he knows probably (not sure) better than me about potential

Depay, Schneiderlin and Firmino would get some real muppet juices flowing here as far as early transfer business goes.

Dont knw anything abou the guy, is he a striker, winger, nr. 10, something else? :)

He can play anywhere across the forward line and he gets good figures in terms of goals and assists in each position too.

For the reported price we'd be stupid not to go out and get him.

Yeah what's going on here, all fart and no shit or what?
This guy worth a wank? Never heard of him. Will he improve my Fifa side?

Well the first thought that popped into my head was that he's injury prone, not sure why, don't even know his injury record.

As excited as I am, this seems too good to be true. All we're basing this on is one man's tweet which he posted 2 days ago.

Nope. As Sports Witness noted we have been linked to him since end of last year. Also Bild showed a picture of our German scout in the box with his agent at a Hoffenheim game. We've scouted him extensively. So it's not just based on one guy's word

I think Firmino would be a decent signing. He's young, has a lot of potential and looks an exciting player. £14 million is a good price for him so I hope this is true.

Good strength, good pace, good dribbling, good vision, good finishing and he can use both feet. Bargain deal for us if we can snap him up.

I'm not sure what to make of it - a decent no 10 who can operate wider though its probably not his best position - a bit like mata in that respect.

Is he better than fellaini as a no 10 - probably... is he better than mata or rooney - probably not
as a wide player he would surely be quite a long way down our options (di maria, depay, mata, young, adnan)

That said I like him as a player and he seems to do the simple stuff well (good control, moves the ball quickly, presses well / puts in a shift) which I'm sure will appeal to Van Gaals philosophy as well as that ability to run into space and make defences react so I'm happy if its true especially at that price.

I hope the rumours are true he looks to be a quality signing especially for 18m.

We should only be buying no.10s if we are actually going to play them in their best position.

How exactly do you define a number 10?

Rooney has very few qualities that one would normally associate with a number 10. Mata moreso. But people are too quick to call any attacking midfielder who isn't a winger a number 10. Well it's fine to call them for easy reference, but given the way the term is loosely used, a number 10 these days can play many roles.

Many would argue Isco to be a number 10, but he does very well as a widish playmaker for madrid because he can go past players for fun. Silva has also been brilliant for City over the years without starting in the hole you'd expect a 10 to do.
