Roberto Firmino

Remember he was very hot last year when he had a pretty good season scoringwise. Very direct, quick, not sure how he'll fit in possession team. Haven't seen him that much this season, got the impression he was City bound.

Everyone's worried about our current players, well if they are good enough, they will retain their place, otherwise they will be on the bench or playing somewhere else. This is a squad that just managed to get 4th, so there is plenty of improvement that needs to be made to the squad.

If we signed this guy then my guess would be that Rooney, Mata and ADM would start the season as three of our four attacking players with Firmino and Depay shifting in and out of the team. The fact that several of these players can play in more than one position (Rooney as a striker/#10, Mata as a RW/#10, Firmino as a #10/striker etc.) means we'd have a nice balance of competition going on. From there on it would depend on form, opposition and how the new players adapt to their new team.

Agree with this.

@NL Max seems to be worried about his place in the squad should we make this signing

I don't see the point in signing another winger when we've currently got 7 on our books and are likely to end up with 5. I don't see why that's biased towards Memphis?

Valencia and Mata shouldn't be played on the wings. Ideally not Di Maria either. I don't see Nani staying. We only have two top quality wingers in Depay and Di Maria. I'm not sure Di Maria is up for the winger role. Young can play a bit everywhere and Januzaj might get loaned out.

I think it makes sense to buy a winger if that would be the case.

He's not a winger though. Also aint no one competing with Memphis for anything, He will be first choice and our star player.

Thats simply a guess. Young has been good on the wings. You would (we would) have said similar about Di Maria's place in the first team. impossible to tell.

Not a guess. Fermino isn't a winger.

Even if we don't sign anyone else we still have ADM, Mata, Young and Valencia as possible wing options.

Not sure why Memphis would be a nailed on starter given his age and the fact that he's making a step up from a lower league. LVG obviously rates him highly but that didn't stop him starting other players ahead of him at the WC, did it?

Were Nani and Anderson nailed on starters when they arrived with big hype?

You have to be realistic about it though. Di Maria hasn't featured in midfield for a while and fits van Gaal's profile of a winger, Mata is a great option out wide and I haven't even counted Valencia as winger. LvG also doesn't like to loan his best prospects so I'm still optimistic Januzaj will stay. On the left we've got Memphis and Young and on the right Di Maria, Mata and Januzaj can play either side. If Mata primarily plays in midfield it would solve Januzaj's problem of gametime aswell. That's 3 experienced out wide options and 2 talents.

It makes more sense to bring in a striker as 2nd choice, if that's Firmino I'm all for it. The problem is that he doesn't quite strike me as a van Gaal striker and the source isn't the greatest either. We absolutely don't need another 10 since we've got Rooney, Mata, Fellaini, Herrera and even Di Maria for that position if shit hits the fan with injuries.

Herrera is 8 and Di Maria and Fellaini are not 10's. Fellaini is ther only when we're short of any other option rather to lump it into the box.

It all stands on where LvG wants Di Maria, Mata and Januzaj to play next season. I have no idea. I don't see us signing him as a striker, and as you mention our 10 position is filled.

Where does an attacking midfielder fit into our system? I assumed any midfielders signed would be more defensive minded, and Herrera would have more attacking freedom.

Doesn't look amazing in that videos, what is probably a good sign because there must be something more in him. If his hold up play and he has a good technique then he does seem like LvG type of player.

Maybe if we strengthen the back half of the team enough (defence and DM) then Herrera will get more attacking freedom even within the box to box role he's had this season?

1) you are Memphis

2) he probably won't play othe wings

3) God forbid we you know, sell some players to make room for new ones

I'd say he would play in that fellaini role personally, but he's talented (although room for improvement) he could play a variety.

Brazilian flair player, ready to make the next step up, age 23, height 181cm.

The new Ronaldinho

All we need now is Woodward to dick us about before leaving for Chelsea.

That was robben. Luckily Barca have an abundence of flair players up front now...

Edit: no you are right.

This seems like absolute bollocks. The fee is laughable and where would he play? We don't play a player in the hole

CM seems pretty unlikely given how much LVG wants balance

Not 100% sure that he would come to us but surely he's leaving Hoffenheim? He's been there for a few years now and proved himself, it's the right time for him to leave. They don't have European football, he's now a Brazilian international and surely they can't turn down £15m+ bids for him. Who else is interested in him? Bayern?

I could see him ending up at one of the Italian teams or Spurs.

Why are those posters from Blue moon, talking as if they had him already lined up?
When we we're linked in spring so were they. They now believe that any player would chose them over everyone, especially us and that they have somehow superseded us in the worlds view.
