Roberto De Zerbi

Sack ten hag hire this charlatan though according to some

This charlatan is 2 points behind us with fecking Brighton. And we aren't even that bad point wise as we are in terms of everything else.

We’ll see where they are at the end of the season . We are at our absolute worst - they’re at their absolute best right now.

That’s just not true. They’re missing half a team to injuries, not to mention sold their two best players over the summer.

They over-performed by a lot last season and are over-performing (less so) this year still, considering their current circumstances. De Zerbi is a big part of that, I imagine.

Let’s see at the end of the season, of course. I don’t expect them to be ahead of us but I wouldn’t be shocked.

It will dawn on people coaching at a top club is a whole other level to coaching a mid table side....

He did well at Donetsk who expect to win their league and be competitive in the CL/europe.

It's probably a bit early to be in contention to replace a Guardiola type manager but I think he's shown enough in his career to suggest he could manage one of the big Italian clubs quite comfortably.

Have a look at who Napoli replaced Spalletti with and how long he lasted.

Since he was talked about as possible replacement for Erik his stock has dropped

I mean, eventually the gig is up. And they can’t keep getting lucky by selling their best assets, keeping the majority of the funds, and buying prospects while maintaining the same form. Plus, they’re in Europe this year too. He’s not a miracle worker. Still a great coach

Based on what really? Think we're always in a rush to overrate managers without any significant achievements. Reality is Brighton is a well run club who a had a good squad last season. Nothing has been done by De Zerbi that screams a great coach. He's also extremely unlikable, and talks a lot of rubbish.

So he's saying he doesn't like 80% of the english referees. How long ban will he get? Nothing? Ok, then.

They picked rubbish to replace Spaletti, so no suprise there. A de Zerbi in comparison would do miles better in them shoes. Even a Graham Potter.

My position on him is the truly elite jobs like United, City, Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern or Pool are a few years out of his reach IMHO in terms of level. Eventually he will grow into the bracket of coach that can handle such jobs.

Zerbi has dramatically slipped away whilst emery is still smashing it

Comfortably through to europa league last 32 and one win off top 6. Plenty more to come from them this season.

The Caf in a nutshell

Look at the Brighton squad at the moment. It’s almost a miracle they aren’t in a relegation scrap they have so many players out missing. Today they had Milner at LB and a midfield of Gilmour, Lallana and Gros away at Arsenal

Last 16 even mate! They finished top of a group containing Marseille and Ajax.

They will have gained plenty of confidence from that. Who knows who'll they draw but wouldn't shock me seeing them in SF seeing as West Ham did that two years ago.

If they win europa league do England get six CL participants or does it just stay fixed at five?

From what I've read, under the new qualification rules, England can have as many as SEVEN teams in the CL. Highly unlikely as a very specific set of events would have to happen though:

Four league qualifiers + extra spot due to top 2 league coefficient + CL winner from outside the top 5 + EL winner from outside the top 5

Interesting. No one is winning from CL from beyond top 5 now Newcastle and Man. United been eliminated but it is possible a Brighton or West Ham (buoyed by their conference league success last year could go very deep in europa). Either of them winning that pretty much guarantees 5th spot becoming CL.

Yep, take injuries into account, their spend and losing his entire first choice midfield from last season….not sure what people are expecting from “Brighton” when the top half is so competitive

Not to downplay this too much, but Ajax has had an absolutely disastrous start to the season. They've (somewhat) turned it around now, but with the form they had, they didn't stand any kind of chance against Brighton in both matches.

Still think he's doing alright. Considering the players they sold in the summer and injuries to key players I think it would be harsh to label it a poor season so far. Seem to have the players well-coached as well since it doesn't feel like it matters who starts in their team stylistically - great patterns and problem solving in the first phase of play.

We are three points off 6th, having just won a very challenging Europa League group in our first ever season in Europe.

All of this despite missing so many key players through injury;

March, Welbeck, Veltman, Lamptey, Fati, Moder, Estupinan, Webster and Enciso.

Oh, and the little matter of losing our central midfield for £160m in the summer.

So yes, I can assure you that RDZ is doing a brilliant job and we are very, very happy with him. Certainly wouldn’t swap him for Ten Hag, I’ll put it that way.

That good because Ten Hag would never join you lot?
What’s United got to do with this anyway?

We’re on a Manchester United forum, and the thread was bounced by a Manchester United fan saying he had “dramatically slipped away”.

Ok?

He is doing a decent job, nothing more. I'm just glad the media has chilled a little...funny how they are all drooling over Emery after they all completely missed the boat early in the season and are now trying to catch up as if they knew all along he would come good.

The manager love-in changes every couple of weeks with the media/pundits...makes themselves a joke really.

Absolutely this.

Whataboutism is the go to for these oppo fans the instant you say anything about their club.
It would be nice if everyone was interested in De Zerbi just out of general interest, but in reality, there's a lot of push and pull in this thread just because people like/dislike Ten Hag (or like/dislike the people that like/dislike Ten Hag!). So I see where @UTAretro is coming from with that comment, although obviously it doesn't help make the De Zerbi discussion a little more sane.

His stock probably the lowest it’s been since he came to England. Brighton having a poor season really.

It was bound to happen once they had the European games to contend with. You see it all the time, teams just cant handle it.

No lads this is the man we should sack Ten Hag for. TRUST THE CAF

Well the talk of him replacing such managers as gone quiet…
