Roberto De Zerbi

Hopefully ends the talk of him. Not good enough, well nobody knows how good he is, not United quality anyway.

Isn’t this all just proving that it’s quite hard to manage a club on a tight budget in the season that immediately follows selling both their first choice central midfielders at once?

Add in Trossard, Colwill and Sanchez and it is a lot of turnover to manage while also competing in Europe for the first time. I think people are being a bit harsh on De Zerbi, but it's to be expected when the hype is in overdrive like it has been.

Weirdly, the fact that people are now hating on Brighton should be a credit to them.

He's a very good manager managing at a superbly run football club where the expectations have been a million miles lower than at United, so impossible to say how he'd fare here. I did think the other day as soon as the "title challenge" term got thrown about that would see them starting to unravel a bit.

But what "United quality" is is anyone's guess these days. If it is "elite football club" then there's a handful of players that might fit that criteria and Erik was certainly one of the most promising managers before he took on the poisoned chalice that is the United job under the Glazer scum.

I'm not sure what the term means anymore.

Will fit right in. We typically love a manager that is good at getting a thrashing . However, that thrashing still doesn't change my opinion of him. He will do well at a bigger club, with the right structure behind him

Also, Brighton does not have a first team or squad at the level of the top clubs. Whenever people praise De Zerbi of Brighton for overperforming compared to their potential, the implication is that a lower-level performance would have been acceptable as well. And so it doesn't make much sense if people start slagging off De Zerbi if Brighton sometimes don't get those top club-level results. (As long as it doesn't start happening more frequently, of course.)

Aye, any decent manager getting hammered by 6’s and 7’s has no business managing at United.
Oh wait…

Interesting segment Kevin Prince Boateng makes some interesting points about De Zirbi having played under him at the age of 32 said that every club he's been at he's improved every player on an individual basis and made an excellent point about Locatelli's development with Sassuolo to then move to Juve.

Goes on to mention he's very keen on detail in training especially passing, the body position to receive a pass and which foot is more efficient, having six options when in possession frequently, the distances between team matesetc. Highlight in his statement that the patterns of training is built on repetition to drill the learning. Also mentions rating him higher than Klopp as he covers more intricate detail. Goes to show that while Brighton have a hand in the successive element of their managerial transition, De Zirbi has a clear influence in how successful the team has been.

Of all the current managers who are yet to take a relatively big club he does seem to be on the right trajectory.

Brighton losing form just before they play Liverpool and VAR on Sunday!

Looks as though tactically he's been found out. Let the defenders have the ball and stand off but mark tight and press and double up on the receiving players.

Brighton defenders seem obly to be able to pass the ball out but their inability to carry the ball out is hurting them.

I was convinced he had given a penalty to Brighton. Then whaaaaat?

Why did he march everyone all the way back from Marseille having a corner, just to give Marseille a freekick on the edge of their own area?

The commentary too
"oh wait it ISN'T a penalty"
"What the hell?"

Yep, I don't know about "found out" but usually given enough time / visibility (i.e., you're not managing in some hipster league), people figure out a way to counter tactics that diverge from the current football meta. It'll happen with Ange as well. Then the manager / players will adapt in other ways.

Eventually the best ideas win out - if placing the studs on the ball, inviting pressure and playing through is the best way to beat a high press then it'll win over the pass and move to create space approach that's the standard meta now. However, the current status quo is the status quo for a reason. You might occasionally have a guy like Pep who can influence and change the meta itself but that only happens once a generation.

What's being "found out" though. They've won 5/7 in the prem so far.

If they finish in the top 6 again and have a deep Europa run that's another brilliant season from them and better than last season.

Unless the CAF narrative is Brighton MUST win a trophy AND qualify for the CL. You never know on here these days. :D

They don’t have the squad to play in both Europe and the PL these Thursday games will feck up their season

Good result after a poor start tonight. Joao Pedro's penalties are ice cold.

I was concerned the squad would struggle with Europa and with Estupinan out, relying on Lamptey two games a week will end in tears. Depth is good up front and out wide but the defence concerns me. If Dunk picks up an injury it's game over.

Brighton still have a good chance to qualify, Ajax at the Amex next will be huge. I was potentially going but couldn't make it sadly.

They’re playing Liverpool at the weekend and the two games immediately after the international break are City and Ajax. Tough little period for them.

Blimey, you really don’t like Brighton do you. I See they drew 2-2. Guess they’re a bit more spirited than the pricks who play for us…
Ahaha got nothing against them but I was watching OM and was surprised to see Brighton start the game so badly

Usually at Spurs, they get figured out, the team goes to shit, then the manager gets sacked and they go through the same process again.

He's quality Brighton realistically being in the Europa League is considerably higher than their immediate level. Also lost a triage of players in the midfield in the summer and still the team are amassing good performances.

Not Ajax, they are performing really poorly and the club is in crisis mode.

I mean, eventually the gig is up. And they can’t keep getting lucky by selling their best assets, keeping the majority of the funds, and buying prospects while maintaining the same form. Plus, they’re in Europe this year too. He’s not a miracle worker. Still a great coach
