Roberto De Zerbi

To be fair, even with a loss today they are above us on the table :nervous:

Last season after 22 games they had 35 points and was in 7th place. Now they are on 32 points and in 8th place. For as much shit as they've got, not much has changed in terms of results. Their defense is much weaker though.

I still think he's a very good manager and at their best they've been a joy to watch under him but their form really isn't good and they've got a very bad habit of getting absolutely hockied when they do lose.

Well, we're absolutely shite so that's a moot point.

Also, there was this thread earlier in the season: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/and...o-mistake-brighton-are-in-a-title-race’….479351/

True. But it makes it a little harder for me to laugh at them.

Shaky defense and poor form aside, they are right about where they should be at this stage.

People were clamouring for this guy to replace ETH. I've said it when we were linked to Potter and I'll say it again, if we want to sack ETH it has to be for someone better. Not for De Zerbi or Potter. If those are our two options, I'd rather keep ETH.

Something something he should be doing better, something something others around him have dealt with injuries better, something something he's achieved nothing

Should be? Maybe. But, there was crazy hype about them earlier in the season. They don't look anything like that team anymore.

And next month they will all change positions like musical chairs

David Moyes is the new De Zerbi
De Zerbi is the new Moyesy
ETH is the new ETH

and around and around we go.

But, there was crazy hype about then earlier in the season.

If we look past the wildest optimists and hype men, then I seriously doubt that many people expected them to finish much higher than 6th though.

They don't look anything like that team anymore.

They certainly look worse nowadays. But oddly enough they score the same amount as previously.

They’re still above us in 8th?

Not sure whats expected his squad has been completely wrecked by injuries

A sixth place finish would be great, yeah. But they need to hit some form or they'll find themselves midtable in no time.

They've scored 38 in the league and conceded 37. Their defence has been pretty awful this season.

People need to stop using that as some barometer as success, we are dreadful.

We got a game in hand to be fair. They are ahead on goal difference (+1 vs -5 as things stand).

I mean one team has spent 400m in 12 months the other has sold most of their best players and have a massive injury crisis. Brighton shouldn’t be competing with us should they

Oh for sure not. Brighton are where they belong, more or less. Especially with context.

We on the other hand... Well, the less said the better.

Klopp once relegated a Mainz, so you'd be sat here saying the same about Klopp if that was happening this season. Not saying De Zerbi is as good as Klopp, but he's been left with a pretty average team that's ravaged by injury. Given Ten Hag has us in the same position as them with a better team and squad, is he definitely a better coach? Both teams at full strength and they still play better football and look far better coached than us. It might not be De Zerbi but I think the bar for being better than Ten Hag isn't as high as you believe.

Rijkaard once relegated Sparta in the Netherlands before winning the champions league with Barcelona.

I think De Zerbi could be better than Ten Hag, but that says nothing at the moment. I doubt De Zerbi is the one to really take us off to another level.

Perhaps not. The problem is that outside of Zidane and Pep, I don't think there's a manager with some form of failure against their name. There'll always be a reason given on here as to why each manager isn't as good as Ten Hag.

People put too much emphasis on the manager.

His teams have been pumped a few times now haven't they? It's one of the reasons I wouldn't want him here. When it goes wrong it goes badly wrong.

Di Matteo got sacked from West Brom then won the CL and FA Cup with Chelsea.

He's barely managed 50 games since.

same with Ten Hag, Liverpool, City and Brentford he has been responsible for some of the most embarrassing results in the club’s history.

But at least he has a DNA!

Every true fan knows that is the only thing that matters.
