Riyad Mahrez | Staying at Leicester

Mahrez is 26 so approaching his prime, is a right sided attacker, proven in the our league, played in the Champions League and wants to leave so would be available if a decent bid came in so why we're not adter him is beyond me.

With Mahrez being a natural left footer but natural on the right side he could form a deadly combination with Valencia bombing down the right on the overlap, I think Mahrez could be got for £50 million and at his best (which I think Jose would be able to consistently get from him) Mahrez is virtually unplayable.

Oxlade has not played as an attacking midfielder in quite some time. He plays CM or wing back for Arsenal. The Barkley rumours are just that, rumours with no substance. He's been available for sale all summer long and Everton even signed a replacement for him yet no one is bidding. So I'd argue there's 0 evidence that Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham are after an attacking mid.

City are not interested in an attacking mid. They are interested in Sanchez. Specifically.

As for us, based on Mourinho's comments, he wanted Perisic to play him LWB. Which is different to attacking mid.
And yet he is a attacking midfielder. Liverpool play 4-3-3 - Coutinho a CM and Firmino a striker - so if we're saying they need 2 players for every position then there's 4 wider attacking roles that they only have Lallana/Salah/Mane for, meaning one is free. The Barkley rumours are as strong as any this summer, if you don't believe it's possible when pretty much every media outlet at some point or another has reported on it then there's no point discussing anything transfer related on this forum.

In any case, Chelsea have Pedro/Hazard/Willian for 4 attacking midfield squad places, Tottenham have Lamela injured for a long time and are widely said to be looking for more quality in attack anyway, Manchester City have about 7 attacking players for 10 positions consdering they play 5 per game.

Duncan Castles says we want Lemar also, in addition to a left back.

His control and ability on the ball were noticeable tonight...but so was his decision making.

That said, he really isn't going to be at his best in a match when he has so few touches. Think he could be a very effective player in a 'good' team (and I realise they were champions 2 years ago).

Reminds me of Ozil a bit, in terms of contribution.

Should I be reading too much into the embrace with Lukaku as the teams came out of the tunnel?

And also Pogba speaking with him before and after half time with mouths covered?

Yes.
Mahrez speaks french.

Im a fan of Mahrez but if he's played on the right we still have the problem of a winger checking back to cross the ball. Rather get a winger who plays on this natural side.

he's a class act

quicker than Mata and a lot more mobile

he's a lovely weight of pass and I think he'd improve in a team like United

40 million and he would be ours

I thought the scousers would have gone for him. They seem to like high potential players with problems.

Reminds me of Ozil in that his quality is dazzling but he seems to be a spectator far too often. He reached amazing heights the year Leicester won the league though and would certainly be worth a punt for us.

apparently we have just made a £27m bid for Andros Townsend, if true we could see some movement on Mahrez

I'm a huge fan of Mahrez and I think he could add another dimension to our attack. He's quick and his passing is amazing. Although, I do feel that if we go for Mahrez, Mata's days will be numbered.

Leicester have said the price is £40m for foreign and £50m for PL teams. They rejected Roma's £32m bid, so I guess they are sticking to that valuation. They are under no pressure to sell either, he only signed a new contract last summer.

We should have gone for him early in the summer. It's quite obvious that we are lacking a decent player there and that Mata/Mkhi are better suited to AMC/#10/Support Striker roles. Our attack would have been more balanced.

Instead we pursued Perisic when we already have two very competent young players playing as wide forwards from the left. And I still don't know why we paid £30m + £10m options for Lindelof when we had 4 good main CBs, a promising youngster (Axel) and two LBs that can play CB competently in an emergency. Especially since our defence was already strong last year and the average age is what 25? Now he's not even in the squad for games and that's with Fosu-Mensah on loan and Rojo out injured. Kind of an unnecessary spend when there were areas of the pitch like RB and RW where another/different option would have made more meaningful improvement to our squad and season.

You do make some good points but Smalling is NOT a good CB. The guy has two left feet and last year, we were short of CBs when practically everyone was out injured. Bailly was our only consistent CB but even he had suspensions. So I can see why Jose wanted to bring one more CB and it's not just bringing in any CB, he went out and got a ball playing CB who would make those crucial passes from defense to attack when we are chasing the game for a win. Lindelof needs some time to fit in with the pace of the league and he's playing the same waiting game as what he did with Mhiki. At the end of last season, Jose was thinking of selling either Smalling or Jones, but with Lindelof not having settled in quickly, he's had to go with Jones who has actually performed really well with Bailly. If I were Jose, I would sell Smalling to Leicester and get Mahrez as that would also solve the winger problem since we didn't get Perisic.

One of the main reasons we've had a strong start is because two of the players we've brought in are PL proven and bringing in Mahrez would give us that extra fire power and he's good friends with Pogba and Lukaku which would make it easy for him to integrate into the team. At the end of the day, our CBs should be Bailly/ Lindelof/ Jones and Rojo with Axel Tuanzebe a very good backup. I don't think he's put a foot wrong yet but he needs to be eased into the team slowly. He's still very young and will get his chances when Valencia is rested and Bailly is rested for the cup games.

If Townsend is going for £27 million I wonder how much Zaha would go for.

Nothing but speculation but Pogba did do the same with Lukaku last year

:nervous:

...on a serious note, wouldn't mind if we got Mahrez but seems redundant as we have Mata and Mikhi. However, would allow the RW situation to be cleared up. Then again, Mata has been class so far this season (very early in) so idrc either way.

He had a good game against us but still no end product and a lot of wrong decisions. Not good enough for us and I hope we dont go for him.

Doesn't run enough. Klopp's manifesto is run 10km more than the other team

We have Lingard. .
technically and creatively he's light years ahead of Lingard

Lingard works much harder though and his attitude is unquestionable

what is our priority though? I'd say scoring goals and if we signed a player like Mahrez it might be more a threat to Mata and his place

I think he's a very very talented guy and a good age profile but if Griezeman is the long term goal maybe its better to wait

Makes to much sense..

Give him a better team than Leicester and he'll be very good for them. Although I'm not sure if Arsenal should go for him. Ozil and Mahrez are quite a lot similar althugh Mahrez is a bit pacier and Ozil is obviously much better.

If he can replicate the form from the title winning session, there's a game winning player in there. From memory he played well in Europe last session too. No brainier for me and just think that covering the mouth thing talking to Pogba is a bit strange....not sure you need that to say 'Good game'
