I can assure you elmo that if the 'Rio Saga' gets into the personal terms stage, it will happen a lot faster than Bowyer. ;)

So, has Ridsdale returned to his holiday in France?

So, you will get Rio. But don't try and say he didn't gain anything by his time at Leeds because he did.</strong><hr></blockquote>

I didn't! He developed, and LUFC helped him. Great. Now he wants to move on, and it looks like Leeds will make a handsome financial profit. That's how it goes. This isn't an amateur game and Rio is playing the professional game. Incidentally, as has been pointed out elsewhere, so is Ridsdale.

I'd tell them to Get Lost if they turn down the next one

Yes but as has been pointed out Leeds are only playing the professional game because Rio asked to go....so he hasn't appreciated anything at Leeds and doesn't want to stay there.

Honestly, Man Utd have the money but do you think you really should be spedning in excess of 30 million on one defender? Especially when Fergie was so convinced Wes Brown was better when Leeds bought Rio.

Davo...I'm in agreement. This is kinda crazy money for a defender. He's good...but this just pushes the price expected to be paid for others higher.

How much will Nesta be worth if Rio goes for more than 30 million?

I've heard it was £24m

If it was £29m, we should tell Rio to stick it out with them and join us later, and we should either stick with what we've got or move on to Ayala or Gallas.

well id just bid 32mil if the big nosed twat turns that down just tell him to feck off and go else where and let his club go belly up

How much do you think Man Utd will spend?</strong><hr></blockquote>

BBC site says United have had a near 30m bid turned down...

Too much IMO. If we keep paying over the odds for players, every club will hold us for ransom when we come bidding for their players.

As I've said before Rio has 4 years left on his contract and Leeds don't HAVE to sell..so the way I see it is that even though Rio would get stick for saying he wanted to go if Leeds price him out of the move he'll still perform as he wants to be a good player.

Maybe it will be a warning to other players to not think making a transfer request immediately gets oyu out of contract.

I still think he'll be sold though.

Ridsdale started the statements game a while before Ferdinand asked for a transfer. In any case, it's not a question of "who started it". My point is that everyone has behaved pretty much as we should have expected, and I don't think anyone has done anything wrong.

32m is way over the odds IMO...especially given the state of the current market..

Yeah, I agree

If it gets close to £30m we should move on to other targets and wait for Rio to sign later

32m is way over the odds for any human being

I told you, he's squeezing our bollocks. Greedy bastard! <img src="graemlins/annoyed.gif" border="0" alt="[Annoyed]" />

It's all going to come down to how much we want a new defender and how much debt they want to relieve.

feck em I say, lets go after Nesta! :D

It says Leeds are holding out for 35 million and no less. They hold his contract for 6 years of which he has served less than 2. Maybe they will be prepared to hold on to him if Man Utd don't pay what they want?

I'll say they'll sell for just over 30 million though.

Oh FFS !!!!

Been refreshing sports sites all day in hope to hear a deal has been struck.......Surely if we bidded near £30 Million, Leeds PLC should have accepted.

I now think we should talk with Ayala's agent as this will be a good alternative and could show Leeds that we wont be held to ransom.

Been confirmed now of £30 Million bid...Listening to Teamtalk radio.

Sky say they want 30 million, If they turn down the next bid we should go for Ayala for 10million and wait for Christmas and go for him again for Knockdown price

talks are going on at the moment and utd have not given up

hell be a red tonight

So Man Utd aren't being greedy trying to throw their weight around to buy every player they can afford? Hmmm....

They can ask for what they want...he's their player and they don't really want to sell him

If you're stupid enough to pay such a huge fee thats your problem

It's 3.15am. I haven't been able to sleep this week for family reasons (my Grandad is terminally ill in Ireland) so I'm still up as unable to sleep.

We've offer a fair price, yet your chairman wants more. Well, he's not going to get it.

We dont care if you go bankrupt! :p

That might be just too much "in the current market", as many are saying, so perhaps there won't be a sale after all. How desperate are MU for a class defender? Who else could they get from abroad who would slot into the Premiership game as quickly as such a huge investment would require to be justified?

Anything over 30m, we should give the money to Lazio and ask for Nesta and Crespo.

Rio is worth 30m if Thuram at 22m last Summer is a benchmark, but we all know it's a bear transfer market at the moment.

Bearing in mind that Blanc will move on after next season and Wes may or may not become Rio's partner will Man Utd splash the cash again next season for another CB?

How much money does Fergie want to spend in his last few years as Man Utd manager?

This is dead!

The PLC won't pay any more and SAF has run out of time, Rio has his tickets booked and we have to look else where, I don't think Leeds will go bust but they will never get a chance like this to cut so deep into there overdraft, What happens if they win nothing and don't get a CL place?

By the end of this session £29m could appear to be a lot of money if you are a member of the Leeds PLC.
