He's going to have to be more agressive if he really wants a transfer. His window of joining Utd will close if we're forced to go after Nesta or Ayala.

I agree. If we offered £29m and had it rejected, it's time to look elsewhere. It'd be a great shame but IMO if Leeds really want to sell Rio, they have overplayed their hand.

It's likely Ridsdale is going to be the recipient of some pissed off phone calls from bankers on Monday.

I think he's gone as far as he can Raoul. He's put himself out on a limb as it is - you can't expect him to burn all his bridges. If Ridsdale digs his heels in and Utd won't match their valuation Rio is stuck. If it goes pear shaped he has said he will honour his contract which is all he can do.

Raoul, I don't like us being held to ransom by Leeds and I'm getting worried that, in some way, we might be in shit the more Rio sticks his neck out to join us.

Say he doesn't board the plane tomorrow, the lad will carry that with him for the rest of his career, particularly if we pull out.

I'm not liking this haggling game anymore because it is increasingly looking like we are going to pay a fortune (30m or more) or Rio is going to be badly bruised, it certainly won't encourage any player to stick his neck out for us in the future!

Agreed. Let's just hope its pulling in Carrington training ground in the near future.

We can't wait forever and Ridsdale knows this. He thinks he can extort 35m out of us by stalling, flying to Monaco, and sending Rio on that trip. What he need is for Rio to step up and take another step towards us. I'm sure Ridsdale tried to change his mind yesterday during the meeting. We need another statement from Fergie saying that we want Rio, and that Leeds are stalling. This will allow Rio to make another public statement re-iterating his position, which will work in our favour.

Or...we'll have to go fishing for Nesta.

true, and plus its unlikely that Leeds will hold onto Rio beyond this year. Its just that LUFC's rival want to buy him is whats causing the extortion delays.

This is crazy...Rio is NOT worth anything like £25m.

It just goes to show that Leeds are not as deep in the brown stuff as most of you said - we do not HAVE to sell Rio and PR has played a blinder. If MU are daft enough to offer anything like £30m he will let Rio go, if he doesn't Rio will stay and as Rio said himself he will give 100% for Leeds.

Ridsdale will be acting with the full knowledge and instruction from the board so to say he will be getting calls from pissed off bankers is laughable. Which banker is going to be pissed off at turning £18m into £25m+ in 18 months?

I am torn between keeping him to piss you lot off and on the other hand saying let's accept your mad highly inflated offer and buy someone like Ayala for a third of what we got for Rio.....either way it's good business.

Shame you did not have the foresight to buy him for £18m.

Nesta will cost more than £30 million Raoul.

I fear he's 2nd choice. I'd love it if we got Ayala though. That would still leave plenty of cash to buy a replacement for Denis, AND either Duff or Ronaldinhio.

well lads as im hearing if rio is on the plane the deals off

we offered 30mil today but leeds are holding out for 35mil

maybe not but would your board sell him for only a few million profit?? ofcourse not..

yeah i think you need the cash.. why else would leeds be considering a bid for your main player?? i couldn't imagine United letting go of becks, giggs, keane etc etc in their prime...for any type of fee....

There's nothing to preclude transfer negotiations from being conducted if the player isn't physically on location. The only thing Rio has to be there for will be his medicals, which he would presumably break away from the tour and return if a transfer fee is agreed on anyway.

Maybe finacially you do not have to sell, but Rio's position is quickly becoming untenable.

Ayala would be good business in the short term. Utd would be making a long term investment in Rio.

£30 million would be a ridiculous amount, but Rio could be a rock in Utd's defence for at least the next decade. In that context, £3 million a year over 10 years is peanuts to Utd.

Utd were interested in Rio but not at that price at that time. We had Stam & Johnsen with Wes coming through. It wasn't that Utd didn't rate him, it was that our defence wasn't a priority then.

There is no question that Leeds need cash...nobody has hidden that. The thing is Giggzy we only need £15m and that will come from Bow going along with minor players and maybe Keane. I heard a whisper that Kelly will not be travelling to China and Australia...looks like he is leaving the club - Also Dubes might be going to Bolton.

MU are the club most players want to play for...trophies, money, biggest club etc - any player would be daft not to want to play for you and that's why players dont leave MU when they are at the top of their game.

well kevs just posted this to

if Rio flies to the Far east tomorrow the deal is OFF. Fergie has told cuntface Ridsdale that if Rio is on the plane he will look elsewhere. There WAS an offer of £30million today which the cnuts should have accepted it means they are still making £12million on the deal but they are holding out for £35m.

My info is that Ferdinand won't be on the plane...but that's unconfirmed, if he is on the plane we won't be signing him that I do know.

Pigsdale is just being a cnut because he knows how much we want Rio and how much Rio wants to come to United, personally I think they should pay the £35m as squabbling over £6m does not make sense, no player is worth that apart from my mate - arf - but seriously Rio has gone out on a limb and we can't let him down

believe me Kenyon will get the hairdrier of his life from Sir Al because Fergie was VERY tetchy tonite and has been on the blower to Rio all day trying to reassure him he is coming

Lids are just being cnuts and who is surprised by that, but have faith I don't think he'll be on plane

twat features spoke with Blackburn today re personal terms but nothing more to report on that but at least it seems certain this time he WILL be off

Keane may not play tomorrow - but nothing sinister I hear

He hasn't got any left, surely.

I tell you, I'd certainly wouldn't want that horse trader running my club every day's work.

If he is not at OT in a brand new Nike shirt tomorrow, the deal will not be persued.

feck em I say, let's go after Ayala or Nesta.

Leeds can stew in their own juices for me. They've had a reasonble offer, and we shouldn't let them try to squeeze our bollocks anymore.

Ok I admit if we get Rio now it will probably be for silly money and beyond his true valuation, though I also feel its not that bad considering his age, I mean we could have him playing for 10 yrs or so....Now even at £30 million that seem a good deal.

2nd Point - We are United, We are the richest club in the world, We are the most famous club in the world, We have a certain appeal that probably no other club can match in the world, ( Just ask Rio ) We are still the club everyone wants to watch ( Sorry to the Arse ) Even if we did not get Rio cheaper before, I guess he has natuarally progressed to another level through his carrer, You will always be behind US...and we are Manchester United

Who's Kev's sources?

I like the Fergie's been on the phone to Rio all day reassuring him that he will be coming. I can well imagine that's true.

In which case if it does fall through - then Rio is definitely going to be well pissed at Ridsdale.

Well, if it's 'he's on the plane the deal is off', then I suppose we've thrown the ball back at Leeds court.

Seems clear that Fergie has put his foot down about Rio not flying.

I think if Rio is told to get on the plane he may have to refuse if he wants to keep the deal alive.

Seems to get some things right by all accounts - but you're probably correct: deduction/guess work/sniff of something here or there all melted together and served up hot.

What a load of fecking rubbish.....there was an offer of £26m today and Leeds said nothing less than £30m will be even considered.

How does anybody KNOW what Fergie, Kenyon or anyone else involved has been doing.

Why does everything stop if Rio gets on a plane...it is Ridsdale doing the negotiating not Rio. kev whoever you are you are an arse.
