Right Winger... Who do we go for?

I'd take Shaqiri for £12 mil to be honest. Good player, plays on the right and cheap.

Wow he's just 26!!
Expected him to be 30 or in his late 20s
For 12 million, why not, we have zero RWs and he would be a good squad option

Can see Shaquiri becoming our next converted right back seeing as Tony V is getting on

#glazernomics

I am afraid it is not that easy to 'settle" for 2nd and 3rd place either. Chelsea failed to improve the squad and then drop from 1st place to 5th last season.

Chelsea did the opposite of improving the squad though. They severely weakened their team.

They sold two previously key for them players that were part of the spine of the team (Matic and Diego Costa) and replaced them with players of dubious quality who certainly failed to produce in the EPL (Bakayoko and Morata).

If we consider who our key players were (De Gea, Lukaku, Pogba & Matic), none of them are at risk of leaving this summer. The only talk of players leaving is for Darmian, Blind and maaaybe Martial (club denies intention to sell). The first two hardly played, that latter was important but not key.

So I don't worry about United falling to 5th unless the teams below us all strengthen considerably. Which is not happening. I only see Liverpool potentially doing that, since they're revamping their whole midfield.

We will go for Willian I imagine, Mourinho wants instant success and it’s a player he knows.

Shaqiri is cheap but he is lazy and inconsistent so I don’t see that working well with Mourinho. Personally would like to see us go for Pulisic but zero chance of that and I think it could well be Willian or no one this summer.

I read that Barca is in for Willan, if thats the case I dont see us getting him

I'll give you inconsistent, but lazy? he seemed to work his arse off at Stoke.

Pulisic would only make sense on a reasonable price and BVB don't do reasonable unless contracts are running down. And that would be next summer for Pulisic, if he doesn't renew, as his contract expires in 2020. He's had a bit of a meh season for BVB and it's debatable whether someone so young is ready for a big-money transfer and a starting place at a club with huge expectations. Personally, I wouldn't be up for spunking 100m+ on someone who's looked good at RW for BVB.

Regarding value for money, Shaqiri would be by far the best buy at the moment. Compared to 50M Arnautovics, Willians or Perisics, a 12M Shaqiri RW squad addition is a no brainer.

I'm pretty sure the rumours are baseless.

I don't know many things about Barca, but spending ~60m for a squad player is not something they generally do. There's no place in the starting XI there for Willian, unless they sell Dembele. The midfield is Busquets, Rakitic/Paulinho, Coutinho and the triplet in front is Messi, Suarez , Dembele.

Also they are on their limit of foreign players are trying to make Coutinho Portuguese to complete the transfer of Arthur from Gremio which has been agreed since Feb/March but been delayed for this reason. So there's no space in the squad for another non-EU player.

I'd love to see Tahith Chong given a real chance but it won't happen under Jose.
yeah, no chance he gets a chance. Probably 3 years away from a decent chance in the first team if Mourinho stays. Shame.

Not Shqiri, not Willian, there must be other options..

Actually, there aren't that many. Not realistic ones at least, because we're not getting Mbappe and Bale seems a pipe dream since Zidane left and CR7 is looking to leave.

Fekir perhaps, but not a RW. Mahrez is heading to City... There's just not many quality options.

Those claims are not supported by facts. Mourinho plays you if he deems you good enough, regardless of age.

Too bad Mahrez is going to City, he would have been great for us

If it frees up money for other positions such as LB and CB, which Jose seems keen on, I'm all for it. Especially for the price and his age. He's an immediate upgrade on Mata and Lingard to be fair.

Hope you are correct. He has a tendency not to trust young players as much as other managers would be my assessment.

All this talk about freeing up funds, saving a buck or two etc, resigning Fellaini instead of going in a different direction, where are we supposedly going to actually spend big? Is fred the marquee signing, because for a club of the stature of Man Utd, with the resources we have, that would be totally unacceptable imo.

We are playing catch up to a superior team, our rivals, and are a long long way behind.

No real links lately, I wonder if we could decide to try Sanchez out right? I assumed that was the idea from the beginning but for whatever reason it was never really tried out. It's the only thing I can think of to even somewhat justify not being in for a right winger.

I read some posters saying that maybe he didn't spend a lot on a new RB and we re-sign Fellaini instead of signing a top CM because we would buy a world class RW.

I would love someone like Bale, Mbappe or Dybala, but I think we are going to end up buying someone cheaper like Shaqiri.

Neglecting our right wing this summer, would be a travesty. It should have been our number one priority but nothing concrete as of yet.

I like Willian, but we have a youngster coming through ( Chong) who I think will eventually make the right wing position his own when he gets his chance.

I haven't read this whole thread, so maybe this is covered, but the fallout of Ronaldo's transfer may mean that Dybala becomes available. Maybe with the connection to Pogba, Dybala may be interested.

IMO William is the type of player Mourinho would sign, but I prefer to sign someone different. Unfortunately, there are not many top RW available.

Douglas Costa would of been great.
Mind boggling that we didn't sign him for only 44m every time I've seen him he has looked superb. Tonight he lifted Brazil completely. Speed, creatively, dribbling and so much more.

For 12M I agree it’s not a bad deal inn the current market. Would be such an underwhelming transfer though. Surely Rashford, Martial, Sanchez or Lingard could do a better job at RW?

Shaqiri - is this really where United are at???

We didnt have an option to sign him for £44m though, did we. Juve did.

Yes you are right, completely forgot it was a pre-arranged deal to make the loan permanent.
I do wonder if someone offered Juve a quick £30-35m profit on him, whether they'd take it.
