Right Winger... Who do we go for?

Malcolm from Bordeaux would be a great signing for half the price of Bale.

A player that would give defenders nightmares

The jobs that you describe is being handed to the fullbacks these days, that's it. All top teams have wonderful midfielders and with pressing, top teams usually dominate possession and hence the top teams play with ultra attacking fullbacks who act as wingers in the team.

Attacking fullbacks may take on a huge part of that role these days, but fullbacks cannot replace wingers. My point was really that the popularization of inverted wingers, and subsequent reliance on fullbacks to overlap and provide the crossing outlet, has made most wide men one-dimensional and predictable. Being able to go both directions with some danger either way is what separates the great wide men from the rest - Ronaldo, Hazard, Neymar, etc. all play "inverted" but can realistically take their man either way to the point where they could play on the right and be just as dangerous.

If Bale decides to go, then we would be the most realistic destination. Maybe Bayern if they offer Lewandowski plus money.

What about James Rodriguez? He hasn't played too much om the right wing previously, but I think he will fit nicely into that role under Mourinho. Brilliant left foot, South-American winning mentality and does track back when needed to. He will be a bumped-up version of Mata for us. Bayern have a 42 million euro buyout clause for him, but are reportedly unsure about activating it.

Starting to think this is the way we should go.

One of the few promising young Brazilian wingers that Real Madrid dont already have an agreement for (Vinicius & Rodrygo)

We should have spent the money on Perisic last summer. He does not seem to have a bad cross in him. He uses throw ins like a long through ball. Really impressed by him whenever i see him.

Ship has sailed now through i suppose :(

Sanchez - Lukaku - Fekir

If we sign fullbacks that will join our attacks and can put in some good crosses in to the box, Sanchez and Fekir could put move in closer to center and be able to use their best foot.

Agreed. Unfortunately, we are going to continue with Valencia on the RB, so we need a winger to provide width like Mahrez/Bale not another CAM.

Have a feeling we're not going to sign a right winger unless Bale is available. I reckon we'll go with what we've got and Chong being promoted to see how he does. Only thing I expect to see now is a left back.

I've been thinking that as well, Mourinho mention he's planning on promoting another from the youth system next year, Chong has been the best in the U18s and now U23s and he plays in our weakest position. Seems a no-brainer, really.

So we decided not to go forward with the OT expansion so that we can spend less than last three years? Makes no sense to me
Also Mourinho should know that if he doesn't deliver this year, he's gone

I'm torn because i think Chong has amazing potential, but it feels like he would be horribly exposed out there this early in his career.

If he could learn under the wing of an experienced star it would be best for him.

That's why Perisic would have been a great teacher. They both have the knack of just ghosting around the pitch. I hope Chong is given that freedom and not just told to patrol the touchline.

All Mourinho has to do is compete and qualify for the champions league. Whether we like the situation or not. He's not going anywhere regardless of members of the caf's wishful thinking.

No one said he'd be first choice. Mourinho will play Mata/fred/lingard/Rashford there.

Surely nobody actually believed the 'we are delaying the OT expansion to spend more on transfers' story!?

I think Mahrez would be ideal for our RW position, but ImI not sure that Mourinho would work with players like him, players who doesn't have a good work rate.

IMO he prefers an experienced and hard working player in the attack instead of a young player.

For CM, it seems that he wants someone with physical presence like SMS, Talisca, etc. On the other hand, I can see Guardiola signing players like Isco, Thiago, Mahrez, etc with good technical qualities.

For strikers, I think Mourinho prefers a target striker like Lukaku, Ibrahimovic, Costa, Dzeko... Not skillful players as Gabriel Santos, Suarez, Aguero, etc. Also, he likes fast defenders like Varane, Skriniar, Bailly... And one of the wingers should have a good work rate like Perisic/William.

So that's Mourinho type of players in my eyes, but I could be wrong and maybe he could go for players like Thiago, Mahrez.

Where does that come from. I mean Mahrez won player of the year playing in a counter attacking team.

Even if he was lazy, the level of creativity and invention Mahrez brings in top class. I cant believe we are letting City have a clear run at him.

Would love to see either Bale or Willian.

Our right winger for next season will be Mata.
I'd be shocked if he spent the season as our first choice right winger, it'd be Lingard if anything.

I'd love to see Tahith Chong given a real chance but it won't happen under Jose.

Pulisic. Direct, 2 footed, young and a great crosser of the ball. Would cost quite a bit but we could make it happen. Think he represents the best out there, outside of bale

To be fair Mou does not have the luxury to develop young players at Man Utd. He is hired to win the league so every point matters. He has to field his strongest XI every game to close the gap with Man City.

Not really, he'll want it for sure, but not sure our owners are that fussed just as long as we get CL consistently.

If he could achieve this whilst at least trying to play exciting football, and blooding/trusting some exciting youngsters (yes Jose I know you play Mctominay..) then he might endear himself a little more,

True but the current squad as it its today doesn't look capable of winning the title next year. Would you settle for a second / third place finish, a few youngsters blooded and ready for a real challenge the year after?

I am afraid it is not that easy to 'settle" for 2nd and 3rd place either. Chelsea failed to improve the squad and then drop from 1st place to 5th last season.

Be careful with that "Arsenal owner" mentality.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs develop young players only because of financial restraint. Just go buy the best available player you can afford like Real madrid, barcelona, PSG and Man city. There is no need to obsess with developing young players.
