Right Winger... Who do we go for?

DOMENICO BERARDI

He is said to be a Juventus target. All I can say is Domenico is a talented inside forward who can serve key passes without hesitating and that he finishies his chances. His left foot kicking the ball is like a knife cutting the butter. Technical player. van Persiesque quality.

We need a Willian type of player that's for sure. However I can't see us spending over 60m on a 28year old winger. Is there a winger out there who is in the mould of Willian - a few years younger and hopefully potentially cheaper to buy?

I'd consider players like Costa, Griezmann, Bale, Mkhitaryan and Sanchez unavailable for us this summer. We either need to go for someone young and promising like Sane or Berardi or we look to get someone below the level of those first mentioned like Mahrez or Willian.

Mourinho could like Felipe Anderson for his defensive work, but he's been below average offensively this season.

I think Mou would prefer a winger with good defensive good instead of flair. So which wingers have this characteristic.

Available to us we have Valencia and Lingard.

I haven't watched him, but Joao Mario supposed to a box to box right mid. Jose would possibly use him in centre midfield for most games, whilst in the big games where he needs protection, put him on the right - similar to how he used Mourinho.

Then there's Willian and Mkhitaryan, who are very hard workers. They have the ability to get up and down the pitch and also provide quality in the final third.

I think we should go for Sanchez, he'll be great down the right side and he fell out with Wenger a few weeks ago.

Why would he leave for an inferior side to play in the Europa League? If he wanted to leave he would be able to pick practically any club he would want.

For some reason I can see Mourinho reinstating Valencia as a RW. Fast, hard working, bundles of energy, tactically sound, solid defensively and in tracking back - ticks all the boxes as a Mourinho type player.

I can't see him spending mega bucks on a RW - at least not in this transfer window. He's going to focus on the spine of the team this summer (CB, CM, CF), and that's where the majority of the budget will go.

Personally think he will use rashford on the right wing for the majority of games I a 433. That way he gets ibrahimovic into the team, keeps pace on the right and still gives rashford experience.

If the reports of us not going for a RW are true, Januzaj could make it his own IMO. A wand of a left foot to match Martial's right and both can be a legitimate threat on either side.

Is it me or is there a real lack of top quality players nowadays? Many players 'do a job', few have game-changing qualities. The RW position is quite underwhelming on the market.

Lucas moura is probably the only quality Right winger that is available. Also just 24. If were going to spend an absurd amount of money it should be on him.

What is the situation with Reus? Is he a Die hard dortmund worshiper or?

How was his performances last season?

How will he cope on the right considering he is a left winger

Dortmund will have no team left if we pinch Reus.

Tend to agree with this. If we're going to spend silly money then it's got to be on Lucas or Sane.

Exactly. he is much better than willian at basically everything except setpieces. Too many people rate willian so highly but I think he is an average joe regardless of how good he was this season. I've watched chelsea many times last season and the guy can be very frustrating and lacks intelligence sometimes on the ball. he does have skill but we all know football at the highest level requires much more than that. I'm not saying willian isn't a good fit but for us I'd prefer a hazard type image for that role. We need threats down our flank and luckily we have a manager who doesn't play around in the transfer market.

Lucas Moura would be decent, but it is concerning that he's basically the same player now as when he signed for PSG. Hasn't improved much, if at all.

Maybe @Downcast can share more information regarding Lucas since he's definitely watched him more than I have.

@Eddy_JukeZ

Lucas Moura was acquired for €42m in January 2013. Now, he is just 23 years old.

I don't think he will move because there are so many players to be acquired:

- 2 offensive players at least to replace Ibrahimovic & Lavezzi
- 1 RB to replace Van Der Wiel
- 1 LB to replace Maxwell in case his contract is not renewed.
- 1 DM to prepare the after-Motta
- another 1 player to give more choices

Given the departure of Zlatan, Cavani who used to play on the wing is likely to be the #9 for the next season. It means Lucas Moura will have much more playing time next on the wing.

Regarding his level, most of the fans are rather disappointed: we can say he is stagnating.

In the last 3 seasons, I am not sure Lucas Moura had the opportunity to play more than 10 consecutive games. He needs to be a full-time starting player to improve and gain more confidence.

Despite his lack of diversity in terms of style of play & of finishing, he would be a great asset to United because:

- he is pacy and has good dribbling skills
- he is sufficiently physically strong to play in the EPL
- there is no relevant RW at United
- Mourinho is an elite coach so that Lucas Moura could improve & understand what he needs to change

@BBRBB what do you think of Lucas ? :)

@Eddy_JukeZ @Downcast

He's definitely progressed since joining. He was very very raw and is a more accomplished player now although he hasn't become the world beater we hoped for.

He was good last season but often frustrating due to average end product.
I don't think our tactics make the best use of him. He usually gets the ball in central areas, low on the pitch and double marked. He would probably thrive in other systems.

Here's a typical good performance of him without being a real goal threat (but involved in the last goal):

@Eddy_JukeZ @BBRBB

I have always been a big fan of Lucas Moura. I am of those who hates seeing Cavani on the wing and would have preferred Lucas Moura against City instead of a poor Cavani.

He has certainly improved in certain fields but not in terms of finishing imho. Given his status of eternal joker, hard to assess his improvements.

Like any player, he needs trust... and the required coach to break through.

Laurent Blanc likes to manage super stars but isn't an innovative coach like Ancelotti or Mourinho.

What's the estimated price of the wingers we want (Mahrez, Sane, Moura,...)?

Good call.

What about Julian Draxler, everybody was raving about him a year or two ago and he impressed against us this season.

Why is it so necessary to buy one this summer ? The ones in the market are either completely unproven or unattainable. If we can fix our defense, midfield & forward, I would be happy with our current options - Young / Lingard / Valencia or Depay .

I think we should wait if we don't get the right person rather buying someone like Greizmann and shoehorning him as a winger who has to do a fair amount of defensive work.

What ? None of those players will go for that much.

Will Sane leave?
Do PSG need the money?
Leicester are in CL now, they need to hold their squad. You are right about Sane but those other 2 are seelriously hard to get. These clubs are going to milk the shit out of us!

There is more ??? Over these 4 that a closet full of the Riddlers suits! Would be disastrous to not buy a right winger!
