Right Winger... Who do we go for?

I'd be interested to hear a top coach like SAF, JoMo, Wenger or Klopp give their genuine assessment on Mahrez, both current ability and how much more potential he has.

He's never been exposed to top coaching methods nor played with players so I suspect he can improve alot more, despite his relative advanced age.

My instinct says he could be a genuine top drawer player and I'd love to have him in our side.

Who says he has not been exposed to 'top coaching'? Why doesn't Ranieri count as top coaching?

As laudable and romantic as the Leicester win was, I'll never believe they have the better qualified coaches or facilities than the elite PL teams.

I'd have thought that's a given and hardly controversial or disrespecting.

Someone like Mané would thrive alongside a striker like Ibra and score a lot of goals, but I can't see Zlatan gaining much from that partnership in terms of goals. If we get Ibra he's the safest bet in terms of putting the ball in the net, so we'd better off with someone who can provide him with the service he needs to bag as many goals as possible.

What about Deulofeu from Everton? He has an eye for a pass, a lot of pace and puts in some of the finest crosses of anyone in the league. He'd be a great provider and has a decent shot on him too. Probably wouldn't cost a fortune either. Willian would be perfect, but I can't see Chelsea letting him go for less than an extortionate fee.

We should have held Di Maria hostage for another year :(

Interested to see if this "Emre Mor" plays against England for Turkey today. Had never heard of him before todays snippet in the sun. Its only youtube and even from the clips on there you can see there is no end product he is nowehere near the finished article. BUT, the balance he seems to possess running with the ball at speed looks simply incredible!
If you want to believe German media, be prepared he ends up at City.
Bild claimed that Dortmund will sign him but as so often, they were wrong. However, it turned out they were in negotiations with his folks but talks have stalled while the negotiations with Manchester City are said to be very advanced.

I think Rashford is a bit of a waste on the wing.

Willian.

Obviously he wants his wide players to be good attackers as well, but Willian is a really defensive winger. Look at his latest Chelsea side. Every fecking player were defensively minded except for Hazard and Costa. Prime example is the disgusting Oscar who is bang average in everything besides tracking back.

Saul is a deep lying central midfielder I know, and I wasn't being serious in my suggestion of us playing him on the right wing, I'm not mental. I just mentioned him as he'd be a perfect fit in a wide role in a Chelsea&Mou side.

Every player beside Costa and Hazard? Cesc? Oscar? Yes, Willian tracks back but that doesn't make him defensive. Giggs had a mean slide tackle, and while he did play at left back at West Ham in 2010/11, I wouldn't consider Giggs defensive.

Carrying out your defensive duties was expected of all United wingers before Ronaldo, Gary Neville has discussed this at length. I think you are mistaking tactical awareness/discipline for defensiveness.

There is a very complicated loan agreement between Everton and Barcelona for him. Probably not impossible to sign but there will be miles of red tape to negotiate

One of Lucas, Sane or Deolfeu. Failing that give Januzaj a go there

We giving up on Greizmann then?

I gave up on that one a long time ago. Never going to happen this season. If we don't go massive on the RW though and get back to challenging for the title I could see him coming over next season.

Has he signed a new deal or something?

Supposedly signing one and I can't see any real reason he'd join us at the moment. Pretty much every club in the world would take him at the moment and although mourinho has added a bit of glamour back to the club I can't see why he'd rush into signing for us before seeing how this season pans out.

Well we would pay him more and he has an affinity for United.

We would still pay him more next season though

It could hinge on the kind of formation we go for.

Jose likes the 4-2-3-1 so we could be looking at less flair and more hard work a la Willian. If he wants to play a more attacking 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 I think we may go for wide forwards or out and out wingers.

Sane, Mahrez, Reuse?

No surprise if he wants Willian as he was one of Jose's absolute favourites at Chelsea and one of very few that didn't let him down when things got rough last season.

He's not on loan. Sold with a buy back option, and the signs aren't showing him coming back next season at all.

We can do better than Willian in terms of quality, especially at the price we'd have to pay. He isn't that good a footballer.

Still, he showed heart and fight when the rest of his Chelsea teammates downed tools. That counts for something.

This.

More of a right sided attacker than a pure winger, and he's probably going to extend his contract with Dortmund (right now, he's 'focusing on the Armenian national team' - apparently), but with just 1 season remaining on the current deal, maybe Raiola can be convinced to agree to an Ibrahimović ++ double whammy. :)

A lot of fantasy transfer formations are starved of genuine creativity, with an overload of goalscorers - vying for the statistics - which can be an unsustainable model to build upon. Just think that the emphasis should instead be on bringing in atleast one top provider - so to speak, who can look up, and seek out passes to better positioned team-mates (more often than not), instead of always going on goal himself.

With the way we might be lining up next season, Zlatan + Martial (who will hopefully take the next step in his evolution) should be the primary goalscoring tandem for the team, with other creative influences feeding those two - and there are very few superior creative threats around these days than Mkhitaryan - who worked beautifully with Aubameyang and co. this season - like, comparable to Müller + Lewandowski level good (though Mkhitaryan is probably the most underrated of the lot). Has quality defensive workrate - and Mourinho generally prefers to have slightly imbalanced flanks to provide a sounder defensive structure off the ball. He can be that, in contrast with the more tactically free left flank.

One of the most important things our attack is missing right now is a 'brain' (eg. the true point forward in an LVG system - who can be the intelligent operator in the attack) - and Mkhitaryan has been exactly that over the past season. And he's in his prime too, so should be able to hit the ground running - and maybe sustain that level for 4-5 seasons.

That's correct, and also the reason why I wasn't overly ecstatic when we signed Memphis. The idea that we lack goals so we should sign players whose main attribute is to score is wrong. We have quite a lot of goalscorers in the squad- Rooney, Mata, Martial and Rashford have very good striker brain. We now have to focus on bringing players who can create chances.

This would be the coup IMO, nice contrast to Martial but still has flair and is both a creator and scorer, plus he works hard.

We need a right winger like Valencia in 09/10, especially if Mourinho's going to play Rooney as a 10.

Rooney strives off pace and width around him. We all know how he loves to play that driven pass to the right and make perfectly timed runs into the box, where he more often than not, gets onto the end of them.

Willian wouldn't be any sort of glamour signing, but might just be one of those that does really well under Mourinho.

One I'd not have strong feelings on either way, would trust the new manager. A more creative Park?

I wouldn't mind Willian, but there's definitely better quality available out there.

Mkhitaryan would be great, but I doubt he leaves this summer.

Looks like Willian is his preferred option

People saying that there are better options out there - probably under estimating how important mourinho thinks it is for his wingers to be defensive vs highly talented

This Willian stuff reminds me of when LvG first became manger and we were supposedly interested in practically every player that played for Holland under him, hopefully this is more of that nonsense. On top of that there is zero reason for Chelsea to sell to a direct rival.
