Right Winger... Who do we go for?

Just found out that Ben Arfa's contract expires this summer.

I'm not going to pretend I watch Nice regularly but he's played 32 games and got 17 goals and 5 assists in ligue 1 this season and apparently been one of the best players in France. Looking at his highlight reels on youtube for this season he still seems to have the pace and dribbling ability of his youth and his successful take-on stats on squawka are fantastic (4.55 per 90 minutes).

Anyway it would be an interesting signing imo. Obviously he'd be a massive improvement on our currently awful options on the right whilst also saving money for other areas. I know an attack of three french wizards like Martial - Griezmann - Ben Arfa playing behind Rashford (or a new forward) would have the potential for some exciting football at least.

Seems to me another punt similar to Obertan. Sure, Ben Arfa has always been tipped to greatness and has actually shown it in spurts, but don't think he has the guts/persistence to actually get there consistently. Besides, I doubt he'd be able to fit in under a LVG or Jose regime.

If we're going for Ben Arfa then maybe we should consider Nani back or Quaresema

I had the same opinion until this season, huge natural talent with a poor mentality. However he seems to have finally become the player he always had the potential to be. His stats this year are fantastic and the few people I know that follow ligue 1 have been raving about him. He is on the four man short list for player of the year with Ibrahimovic, Di Maria and Diarra for example.

Anyway I'm not saying we should definitely sign him. My #1 choice for the right would be Mahrez and I'd also love Dembele. However if we can't get any of the 'obvious' players I would be pretty happy with Ben Arfa on a free. He's certainly better than our current options imo.

I would take Mahrez, Reus, Bale as winger/forward options. A fit Sturridge anyone?
Mahrez could be a good option. He is the best right winger in the league.
I like Reus, but he plays better from the left. However, I wouldn't say no to him.
I think Bale is going to continue in Real Madrid. If he becomes available, he can be one of the best options.
I wouldn't like to sign a Liverpool player. But I accept that he is good when he's fit.

Football is more than stats. Ben Arfa has such a poor teamwork and work rate. All he does is trying to do everything by himself trying to dribble and beat 11 players without passing the ball. He is a version of poor Robben with unprofessional attitude. Sorry but he's definitely not a type of Manchester United player.

Bale isn't an option. He plays for the mighty Real Madrid who are in the process of offering him a new contract and want him to be the main man. Mahrez is the obvious candidate. Rues would be nice. The trouble is, don't expect them to be the same players under Van Gaal

Why do people think Mahrez would leave Leicester for us in the next window? He is going to be in the CL next season and depending on performances there (assuming Leicester won't be in competition year after), he would get a call from Barca, Madrid etc

Presumably because he would triple his salary. I also doubt he sees himself displacing Ronaldo, Bale, Neymar, Messi or Suarez in the next couple of years. Personally though I'd be going for someone who's been at the top for more than 6-8 months as our main attacking Summer signing.

1. United get into the champions league, United > Leicester City as a team to play for in that competition. 2. We can more than double his salary. 3. He has stated more than once in interviews that English football 'excites him'. Therefore, its doubtful he has any intention of leaving the EPL soon. Even if he does leave Leicester.

Mahrez could join United because cash is king. And we have more kings than Leicester..
Mahrez probably got around £50-60k now, with his new deal? We could give him £150k in a heartbeat.

Why would Agüero sign for City? Or Yaya? Or Robinho when City were nowhere? (Beside the fact that they thought they signed for United...).

Bet he stays at Leicester

To a degree. Yaya said he thought he was going United. Rumour is Robinho too. Aguero left an Athletico who finished 9th and 7th so were at Southampton level. city had already made champions league

Not perhaps the most popular option and I think if we get him we will still need a first team right mid, but has anyone had a look at that Watmore from Sunderland? Every time I've seen him I think he's been fantastic! He's got so, so much pace and if we went for him now he'd be a reasonable price surely. I'd love to see him coming off the bench running at people that's for sure.
As I said though I think a starting eleven right mid has to come in as well.

A Barcelona player instead ;)

What are your thoughts on Lucas Vazquez, I have seen around 8 or so Madrid games and from what I have seen he looks a great talent.

Plays mainly Right Mid, 24 years old, can play RB, right footed, endless energy work horse like, typical Spanish passing style and great touch, good crossing ability, fairly skilful, he glides pasts players with a step over or 2 + Another Spanish lad to keep Dave happy.

I checked out his stats for the season and they look pretty average taking into account he has come off the bench 15 times and his direct competitor is Bale. But don't let that deceive you.

10 starts/15 from the bench - played only 1231 minutes in the league - 4 goals & 8 assists.

That's a goal or assist every 102 minutes
Lingards gets a goal or assist every 308 minutes
Mahrez the best Right Mid in the league has a goal or assist every 106 minutes

So he is a pretty decent player. Just another option to throw out there.

Obligatory YouTube vid:

Mane should be getting bought regardless whoever else we buy. That lad has so much potential it's scary imo. He can fill in at anywhere in the front line I just don't see any reason not to sign him.

Re: Lucas Vasquez, @Cheekiey

Zidane seems to love him, he's cheap, young, Spanish and from their academy. I can't see why they'd sell him for the 15-20M they'd probably get. Seems more likely one of Isco or James will get sold for 40-50M and they'll use the money to turn around and buy Hazard, Lewandowski or Aubameyang like they did selling Di Maria and giving the cash to Monaco for James.

 You're dreaming mate.

If such a thing existed I would be very keen, he's a top striker. Don't think he'll ever get over his injury problems though. Also think Klopp understands enough about Liverpool by now to know not to sell to us.

Maybe your right, but he is 24 and ready to make the step up to be a starter IMO, but that isn't happening at Madrid with Bale as his competitor. Just depends on the player really, if he is happy playing second fiddle to Bale or if he wants starting 11 action he'd have to move elsewhere.

Madrid will sell anyone bar Bale if the right offer came in.

If Martial is move to the striker position, who is the best left winger available that we could sign to rotate with Memphis?

Why would we move Martial to a striker position when he is playing so well on the left? I'd rather we get an experienced striker in like Ibrahimovic and let him share playing time with Rashford.

I like the idea of signing Sadio Mane, if we can get him. He's got almost everything we want in a winger and he has a good goal record too. My concerns are though that he is more of a striker and whether he can make the step up from Southampton to United, because Schneiderlin was a signing that made great sense too but has struggled to impose himself on the team.

With a top class right winger and a new manager, i'd be happy going into the new season.

Anything else would be a bonus.

I also prefer him as a left winger for the moment. But I was thinking in a 442 with a player like Griezmann next to him.

In that scenario, we would need 2 new wingers, mainly if Memphis doesn't improve. Also Martial would dribble closer to the goal with less defensive duties with Griezmann as supporting striker.

Realisticly speaking which manager that is an option for us will play 4-4-2? LvG will stick with the 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1 and Mou will most likely as well so unless we get Giggs as the new manager I can't see a return to the 4-4-2 anytime soon.

We need a lot more than that unless we want to finish outside the top 4, we don't have a top striker and our midfield is pathetic, Jose Mourinho wont suddenly make that shower into world beaters.

Sick of all these stories about players we've been rumoured to forever, but doesn't happen. Sanches and Hummels gone to Bayern already, Dembele to Dortmund. Gundogan to City probably next. The club needs to start acting instead of messing around before all the players/manager we want is gone to another club!

I think you'd be surprised just how much a decent manger would change us... 2 top class players and my money is on Utd next year.

I don't think I would be, Jose is a great manager but not a miracle worker, the lack of quality in the squad is an issue in general, with or without LvG if the plan is to actually win the league rather than just make top 4. RW, CB, Striker and Midfield all need addressing, none of the CM's cut it and Lingard and Mata are not good enough for the RW spot, plus our only #9 is a teenager and our CB options outside of Smalling and Blind are the forever injured Jones and terrible Rojo.
