Replacing Rooney

Lampard (done), Ramires (Average), Essien (Done), Mikel (Below Average), Oscar (Very good)

5 players for 3 positions out of which only 1 player is a budding potential. Rest are either at the end of their career or below average.

Mata? Hazard? Van Ginkel ?(granted he is young)

Ramires is not average!

I don't think he's average either but I don't think he's best in a midfield two. I think he's best in one if the '3' attacking positions in a 4-2-3-1 but he's unlikely to get time there with the Oscar/Hazard/Mata triumvirate.

Kagawa better than Rooney? Okay then.

All I can assume is that Kagawa is an absolute beast in FM/PES/FIFA.

That's like someone arguing Hernandez is better. Actually, that's probably happened.

Rooney is our 2nd best player. Before RVP arrived, he was our best player. People's memories are ridiculous.

Don't they also have De Bruyne(spelling?) and also just signed that Van Winkel fellow? Agree they are still lacking in CM like us though.

So I am not the only one here to think that Kagawa is massively overrated in redcafe.

3rd best for me. When fit, I'd have vidic tied with Rvp for top spot and then Rooney.

He's more than good enough for the two when there is a holding midfielder sitting next to him which frees him to go up and down the pitch. The guy is an engine.

You aren't really counting Mata and Hazard as CMs? It's akin to saying Robben and Ribery are CMs for Bayern. :wenger:
What the feck are you on about? Both of them play CM quite happily, it was mata who gavce us the run around last season from CM positions. :wenger:

Lampard, Ramirez, Essien, Mikel are CMs. Mata and Hazard are attacking midfielders who play out wide and keep cutting in. Much like David Silva.

hahahaha . You probably think sex should be performed only in the missionary position because thats how you saw your parents doing it.
Both Mata can and do play CM effectively. They can and do play wide effectively also.

Genius.

Even Giggs can and does play CM. Even Carrick can and does play CB. We all know how it ends up. It's what their best position is which counts.

Hazard is not a center midfielder. That's not even debatable. He can play anywhere higher up the pitch but it's suicide to play him as a flat CM. Mata can but it's clearly not a preferred position.

I never saw my parents having sex. I'd no idea New Zealand was so progressive.

The goal threat would be a loss. Ideally, either of Ronaldo or Bale would see us forget him very quickly.

If those two are not possible, then I'd say Jovetic or Lamela could offer a similar package of creativity and goals, potentially about 18 in each department (goals/assists) which would be fine I think.

Rooney to chelsea for 40/50M, then Bale to Utd for 60M.

I'm pretty sure the majority would be happy with that swap.

Rooney's replacement for the 'no. 10' role is already at the club, Kagawa. He's a better player in that role for me. I've always preferred Rooney further forward leading the line, I think he's wasteful at times with the ball in the withdrawn role where as Kagawa can be lethal. Granted we haven't seen it consistently in a United shirt but was fantastic for Dortmund. If Rooney does indeed end up going then I guess I'd prefer a quality central midfielder or winger (probably both!) to come in and rely on Kagawa for the number 10 role.

I reckon we'd need to get closer to £80m to get Bale from Spurs. He'd also need to kick up a huge fuss.
