They probably did. it's just no one has ever paid that for a young talent in football history. Potentially 80 mil Euros. Real were delighted when they got as much for Di Maria. City paid that for Dr Bruyne,the best player in the bundesliga. That's top 20 in history kind of fee.
I don't think Monaco would have held out for that much either next season. We moved in quickly to get infront of everyone else. I doubt our scouts where the only ones seeing the talent.
Ah, that is pretty clear. Tbf, I think a few more fans would find the transfer easier to bear if the terms surrounding it where different like the Benfica link, the Jorge Mendez link and the hefty price tags. But we are United, it's the curse that comes with the name unfortunately.
What makes me think the deal might go through anyway is Ed. Part of me thinks that he is willing to overspend on marquee players or potential not just for footballing reasons but it is his way of saying that we are still a big team and still have a strong financial and pulling power in the world of football regardless of our recent slumps. I can't fault that ambition but I hope the means are well calculated.
I guess for me these things always have the context of what the going rate is for the talent on display - you hear 60m euro and you want to see an outstanding set of attributes irrespective of age, which is where I'm wondering why this kid is valued so highly.
I knew nothing of Martial before he came here, but one look at his technique and dribbling made it pretty clear why he would be deemed special and I think the same goes for a lot of young players out there. Was expecting to see similar from this lad, so it's a little bit of concern he looks more like a powerful athlete with decent ability than an amazing footballer needing to fill out.
Rashford isn't valued at 60m euros, so assessment and scrutiny of his game, good or bad, would understandably be much lower.
It was a huge decision. I still think we overpaid. But considering Monaco's stance and how late it was into the window,we didn't really have a choice.
But I'd rather we did that and get out guy rather than penny-pinch and lose out on young talent. It was a ballsy move from everyone involved,the English press were waiting with baited breath to tear into him .

Even buying proven players is a lottery in the end, so we just can speculate. Personally I need something more to be convinced, especially if we sign him as a wonder kid and we pay like that, like some people said before. I don't see the wonders anywhere and he's been showing the same negative tendencies the whole season.
Maybe the manager is the one to blame. Sometimes I read in their forums that many players are not evolving including him, so maybe I'm here criticizing the poor kid and he just doesn't have enough support around, or not good enough. But based on what I see I can't be convinced with this transfer by the moment. Just one opinion more.

So on this transfer. As @Adam-Utd says, for what you can say about LVG, he knows how to train positioning on the pitch (he may hammer everything else out). If Renato learns that, whilst keeping his athleticism going forward with the ball; we could have one hell of a player!

To be fair to LVG, there's been a lot of movement in the side for a couple of months now. Especially in attack. I think he realizes he needs a player like Samches. But it might have come too late for him.
