Renato Sanches

At the same time why not add a bit more money and go for a Pogba calibre player. 60m is madness for him.
The club might have burnt its bridges with Pogba. To be fair Pogba's overall package plus agent fees, sign on fees and wages will cost a lot more than Sanches even though Sanches will cost €60m. Sanches is also a different kind of player.
Even the fee it self will be far more. The word is we are paying only €40m guaranteed for Sanches. Juve want more than €100m for Pogba.

Exactly what people said about Martial tbf. Nobody cares about the fee now.

Martial cost a lot less (the actual maximum 50m is dependent on a lot of things happening) and generally strikers cost more than midfielders (esp defensive ones).

Also think Martial type signings paying off are a rare thing.

Marital is a maximum €80m.

Sorry thought we were talking in pounds not Euros. Even so £46m is a bit much for Sanches, but we always pay over the odds anyway i guess.

£63m dependent on 25 apps for France, 25 goals for Man Utd and a Ballon D'or shortlist appearance (apparently). The first 2 in particular are a given, so it was a very big fee.

It's only going to be that much if he reaches the clauses. If 1 of those is win the balon dor like martials is, then it's a great clause to put in. If he wins it we've got a star who's well worth the money, if he doesn't it costs us even less. I'm actually quite a fan of the way we are doing it.

Well you would if we spunk most of our budget on a player not proven or guaranteed to start, and leaving us with a deficit in other needful areas. 60m odd is way too steep for a midfielder especially one that doesn't influence the game higher up the pitch. Martial is an attacking player, so was ADM, they tend to command higher amounts. Many would even baulk at the idea of coughing that much for a Veratti or Pogba.

First of all, Sanches will be cheaper than Martial. Second, we don't know how much we have to spend. I am confident, we will not blow majority of our budget on an 18 year old. If we spend €60 on him, it means we have more than enough on other areas. There's even talk of us having enough money to pay Neymar's nearly €200m release clause if he wanted to come.

Mate, maybe I'm just concerned about ffp but I guess Ed would work around it. I hope it's a payment over 4/5 years otherwise it's sets a dangerous precedent, paying 60m for a DM, which I'm sure you understand.

Im not really in a position to comment on the proposed deal or the transfer sum since I've only seen him in action a limited time in the CL (where he did impress for his age).

Obviously there's going to be comparisons with Anderson and Martial for the league/position and fee respectively but I don't know enough about him to say whether I think he's worth it or not.

However what I do like about this transfer (should it happen) is that our policy seems to be shifting from spending massive sums on established stars to attempting to pluck the best young talent on the continent. It's always going to be a risk, for every Martial there's a Memphis, but I'm a big fan of adding another young talented individual to our ever growing list. With De Gea in net, Shaw at the back, Sanches in midfield and Martial in attack there's potentially a very solid young spine there. Throw in TFM and Rashford as well and we're gearing ourselves nicely for the future.

Di Marzio said we are paying over 4 years.

Signing Sanches does not mean we wouldn't sign players in other areas.

Yeah mate I'm sure Woody hadn't considered all that before he sanctioned this transfer. He can only hope to have your fabulous insight into the club's bank balance and how it affects our FPP position.

If he does well no one gives a feck whether he cost 60m or 5m. I certainly don't and Woody doesn't appear to give a feck either.

I'm pretty sure we will be offloading the likes of Fellaini, Jones, Valencia if Jose comes in maybe more. I think Mata will be gone also so we'll sure make a few Euros in sales.
I think we'll go all out for a Galatico type player if said player wants to join us and is not just pissing us about. I got a sneaky feeling we will trigger Griezmann buyout clause under Jose and he is the only top tier player I could see us acquiring, if the likes of Real or Bayern dont come in for him that is.
I'm all for this Sanches signing as he looks very impressive for an 18 year old and his pace and power will really add to our rather slow and laboring midfield. Get a top class ball playing CB and I think we'll be looking very strong next year.

Benfica's negotiators are flying to Manchester, and not ours to them, since they can't believe that we're willing to pay so much.

Ed: We're offering 40 million.
Benfica: We want 60.
Ed: OK!

Wouldn't be surprised if Ed arranged a private Jet for them as well.

Not sure they'll be that many first team departures but the only one I could make an argument for is Mata who is probably the most likely to go if Jose comes in.

Valencia is a decent squad player and he's still our best option at right back whilst Fellaini also has his uses. Haven't given up on Jones.. yet.

Have we established what kind of music he listens to? Because that makes all the difference.

I have a feeling that all three of them would still be here next season but specially Jones, there is no way we are selling him!

53 pages for this guy.
What's the fuss about him?
Is this the new Messi?

53 pages of:
"He's extremely young, yet excelling for a CL knockouts club. He's got (insert various words to do with athleticism) which is exactly what we need. We have the money, let's sign him up."
versus
"He needs more time to develop / We're jumping the gun paying 60m euros for a kid who has some technical and mental development left to do. That money should bring us quality, not potential."

Nicely summed up.
Thank you.

What's the best video showcasing his talents? Like some have mentioned we really could do with some drive in midfield.

Bayern won't go for him because they are cheap bastards. Real however, no idea, but there haven't been many Atletico-Real transfers on recent years.

This is the most recent compilation and does him more justice

Benfica play Guimaraes tomorrow so that is a good chance for anyone interested in getting to know what kind of player he is.

Oddly, whilst watching these clips I'm most reminded of Rooney when he was emerging. A lot of speed and power whilst running directly past players, lots of energy to chase players back, massive shot, skill on the ball whilst also looking clumsy occasionally, likes to pick out difficult passes and can give the ball away. He was wearing 10 a lot in that vid, guessing he played there as a youth but was moved back as a pro?

He's a very good dribbler and good at running with the ball. He's not a Thiago Alcantara in term of aesthetics but when he's on form he's devastating. In the last months his played a more reserved role and looks more cultured. He's also very good under pressure. A bit like Dembele.

FFP has been basically binned. By all accounts, it's not going to restrain anyone from spending as much as they want.

I cannot even fathom how much it will take to get the 5-6 quality players we need for the first team.

It's costing this much just to get an 18 year old from Benica.

Griezmann, with his buyout clause of 85my euros looks an absolute steal.

Spot on

So we can't find another established energetic player? don't get me wrong, i have nothing against this kid, but even by today market standards, 60m is the kind of money that lands you a top player.

I honestly doubt he'd go anywhere else for near that money.
I am a club scout, so I don't know really. They may have some weird criteria and the established ones for a reason or another not meet those criteria or not available at all. One thing for sure, our scouts rate this Renato kid highly. Just hope he would be able to fulfill his potential and price tag.

Does anyone have any info about characters of Renato? Does he have leadership quality? I believe in modern football, real leader is a rare breed and even for an inferior player, leadership can add huge value on that player. We severely lack leadership at the moment. Individual quality only amounts that much. Building a team needs on and off pitch leaders to gel individual together. If this guy has that leader aura with him, then, that may be a huge point where our scouts rate him so high compared to cheaper and close in talent alternatives?! Just a thought.

Edit: Thanks anyone had replied and provided info for my last questions in my previous posts in the thread. I read those posts, just I don't have anything I can personally input. So your info is really appreciated. Keep it going

It is understood the club are willing to sell for £31m up front with £15m in add-ons.

31m up front is more than acceptable is it not? Everybody can calm down now!
