Those figures are the same as €40m+€20m, the amounts that Benfica were supposedly not playing ball with. Guessing the Mail are just rehashing reports from elsewhere whilst also misunderstanding them.

At the end of the day it's not our (fans) personal money and we have to put faith in clubs scouting department. I have no idea what to expect but I sure do hope that this follows in line with the Martial transfer. Unfortunately for us we are in a position now, in world football, that we must invest in the young and upcoming players with the potential to reach the top. I know there is risk, but there is also risk in signing established players. No rewards without risk.

Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit of Benfica teenager Renato Sanches following reported interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Here, Sportsmail gets the full lowdown on the midfield prodigy from Diario de Noticias football writer Goncalo Lopes.
The question on everyone's lips at the moment is: can Renato Sanches play for a team such as Manchester United? And the answer is yes, no doubt about it.
I believe we are talking about a young Portuguese starlet with the most potential since Cristiano Ronaldo. However, it is necessary to know how he will exploit all of his qualities.
It is too early to say whether he is worth £46.6million, of course, that nobody knows. But he is worth the risk. Who knew Anthony Martial would be worth what Manchester United paid for him last summer?

SO WHO IS RENATO SANCHES?
Renato Sanches has 42 international caps to his name at youth level but is yet to make a senior appearance for Portugal's national team.
After impressing for Benfica B, Sanches was promoted to the first-team set up at the start of this season.
Sanches signed a contract which will see him stay at Benfica until 2021 unless his buyout clause (nearly £60million) is met.
He has been compared to Edgar Davids due to his hairstyle and creativity in midfield.
Of Sanches, we are talking about a young man of 18 who has changed a team such as Benfica and influences the entire game. A player similar to Clarence Seedorf at his best, with the former Dutch player in fact being his idol.
The pressure of the £46m he could cost will not, therefore, be a problem for him. If at the age of 18 he can already deal with racist taunts, like in Benfica's last game, the value of his transfer will not be an issue.
I think Manchester United needs a new Michael Carrick to solve the midfield problems and that's where Sanches could come in. He's capable of playing either just in front of the back four or in a more advanced role, being the perfect complement to a player such as Morgan Schneiderlin.
The Benfica player stands out as being an incredible box-to-box midfielder, quite skillful, with undeniable technical and tactical ability, combining this with fantastic physicality.
He feels very comfortable setting the pace of his team, he plays in a very intense way, is very confident, and above all things he already plays like a veteran. And he likes, and knows, how to score goals!
Since he arrived in the Benfica first team, last November, he has kept his place in coach Rui Vitoria's line-up. And you can see his importance in only five months, because Benfica were eight points behind Sporting Lisbon at that time, but with Sanches in the side they now top the Portuguese league and excelled in the Champions League, being narrowly beaten in the quarter-finals by the mighty Bayern Munich.

Of course it would be better for him to stay another year in Benfica and in Portugal. In my opinion, that would be best for his development. I have no doubt that if he heads to England next summer his level will evolve, but Manchester United's staff and even their fans have to realise that Sanches is not yet the finished product, he still has his flaws, like any typical 18-year-old player.
And I believe that with another season in Portugal weaknesses such as a lack of concentration at times during games and even overconfidence that leads to a few loose passes could be more easily rectified.
But I understand, however, the urgency of a club such as Manchester United to sign him right now, especially because there are other great clubs such as PSG and even Real Madrid who are also very interested.
United have watched Sanches on 22 consecutive occasions, most recently in a 1-0 win over Rio Ave

Honestly, the rumoured fee doesn't bother me in the slightest. He looks like a great young talent, who has the potential to develop into an extremely good player. His style seems tailor made for English football, and he has attributes which we badly lack in midfield. His pace, aggressiveness and drive from the centre of the park would be very refreshing. I've only seen him play a handful of times, but have been impressed. He's certainly not a perfect player, but he's young and developing (quickly). Of course, we'd be paying for his potential as much as his current ability, but I'm fine with that. More importantly, if we've scouted him as extensively as has been reported, I trust our scouts to make a good assessment of the boy. I have no doubt they have the measure of him.

You sometimes end up with players who underperform relative to their wages. Ideally, you want players who are outperforming their contracts.

Fits in with what I posted earlier about Benfica fans telling me. There's been two Benfica teams this season, one without and one with Renato and it's been no coincidence their form took a turn for the better when he was promoted to the side.
Can you ask the Benfica fans for info about Sanchez character? Is he a born leader? Does he show leadership at youth team? Any rumor about him having some kind of influence in the dressing room? A clown, a joker, calm figure, quiet one just go about doing his job....?

I've never watched a Primeira Liga match so wouldn't know anything but what is the style of football usually played there? More comparable to the EPL with an emphasis on physical end to end game or a slower Serie A pace or more like the Spanish league?

If it is the latter, then I don't see the problem. He is an 18 years old midfielder. With that kind of money, you would expect someone like Koke for example. The likes of Gundogan or Saul would cost around half of that. Add another 20m and you'll get Pogba.
Of course, there is a good chance that 80m is bollocks. 40m + 20m based on performances sounds more realistic. And less insane.
Again replace midfielder with attacker and exact same logic was used for us not signing Martial last summer.
Anyway, it's not about people not rating him it's about people criticising him on lack of positioning after watching YouTube compilations. It's incredible.

About the second point, indeed. Youtube scouts have been always omnipresent in transfer threads.
That video does him more justice and shows what kind of player he is. The claims that he isn't technically good are rubbish.
Look at the size of him though. The one thing you can be sure about is how he is physically developed, he isnt all that tall but he is solid as a rock.
I think technically erratic would be a fairer description, similar to current day Rooney.
A great goal from a powerful shot and a few nice passes for sure, but also some poor ones. Some nice runs. The main thing is he's physical, good power and speed. But Anderson had these things too.
I dont think Rashford is worth anywhere near the money thats being talked about for Sanchez, but I think he's shown far more in his role and against quality opposition. Watching Sanches twice against Bayern, he looked mediocre and not very effective and he was also pretty slow to track back. Not surprising for a young player, but one thats being talked about as an expensive player? These things are important and we'll be punished for them.
That doesn't mean that I dont think he should be a target. It just seems way too early for him to cost this much
That kind of money sets a dangerous precedent for all our future dealings. And while all transfers are a risk, I am not entirely comfortable of the club spending 80 million euros (if true) on one gamble
