Renato Sanches

If our scouts are convinced I'm sold. Our scouts seem to know what they are doing. Every one and their dog wanted otamendi and pedro but we decided not to pursue and it looks like top decisions by the minute. No one even knew martial including Thierry Henry and everyone thought he was waste of money. If people could get him for 36m + add ons now they would probably bite your hand off.

We seem to be knowing what we buy.
Well, that's false.

Everyone who knew Martial was happy with the transfer, I was one of them and I didn't give a **** about the price. If you can find the awful stuff about Martial that I'm posting about Renato, including comments from his fans calling him "a nullity" and "immature" for their league, then I will accept the comparison. By the moment it's a different world.

In any case, I don't know why the people is defending the scouts when anybody is criticizing them. We didn't move a finger yet with Renato, and all we talk here is about a hypothetical situation, nothing more.

Rojo, ADM, Memphis, Darmain etc were all recent purchases. Hit & miss is our transfer dealing.
Whenever Jorge Mendes is involved, I worry. £40m on Nani and Anderson as well as the likes of Rojo, Di Maria, Falcao and Bebe as well as getting Ronaldo out of the club for arguably a discounted price and engineering a move for De Gea (saved only by a dodgy fax machine). Valencia are another club who have spent fortunes on players who aren't good enough or have questionable attitudes just to keep him sweet.

Are people forgetting that he is 18 years old? He has been playing the full 90 minutes in all of Benfica's games in the last couple of months, that alone is much more than you could ask from anyone that age. Now when he has 1 bad game ( I didn't watch the game just going by what has been said) people are ready to get on his back because of it, I mean 1 bad game from a 18 year old who has done far more this season than you could ask of anyone that age. People need to be a little realistic at least when it comes to judging youth players.

Pretty much this.

Exactly, an unknown player selected by France.

PSG and Liverpool were also in for him and he was a step away from signing for psg so he definitely had talent. Scouts can't predict how he will turn out obviously. They can only judge if he is good and many other clubs felt that too.

I remember that even the posters who knew martial thought he wasn't good enough for us. Especially at that price.
But I don't think you can really say our scouts know what they are doing and be sure Sanches will be good when we have spent £50m on Depay and Rojo who are both shit

Mendes helps us get the players. He doesnt scout them and demand we buy them ffs.

Thing is, every one of these Mendes deals for us seem to to be the "sweetners" for him! When do we get the deals that we are trying to keep him sweet for!??

I don't think Mendes forces us to sign all those players. Nani and Di Maria are good players who had a lot of ability.

In Ferguson book he says that Carlos Queiroz was the one who alerted him to Anderson when he was 16 and then Martin his brother scouted him and came back to say "Alex, he's better than Rooney". After that he broke his leg but we still bought him. You can't just say it's all Mendes

Did he kill your dog or something?
This is not the right question. The question here is why some people praises him after every fart, but when he plays bad the thread is deserted. This is a Manchester United forum, and we are talking about a player who would cost a serious sum of money. The most normal thing is to try to evaluate his pros and cons, and analyze the global picture.

I always praised his physical attributes, strong mentality, discipline and hard-work along the thread. But at the same time I try to say the negative things. And some people here is just defending him of every negative comment, overrating every good thing he does and avoiding any kind of criticism. Which is a bit suspicious, considering this is a United forum and not his personal fan club. So the right question would be: are you his friend, agent, or part of his family?

Probably because he is 18 and it is expected he will have some inconsistent performances... so no real need to come in here and bash him really

You have me mistaken for others here, I have been critical of this purported deal as well, I've posted negative and positive things regarding the games I've watched him in. I'm not fussed if we buy him and he certainly wouldn't be in my top 5 choices for a CM purchase this summer, but you seem rabidly intent of bringing up every mistake the lad makes and every negative comment you can find on him, that's a lot of effort to go to just to try and be right on a message board IMO.

My sources tell me it will be £28M up front, and possibly rising to £39.5M with add ons.

When we were first linked to martial very few were going 'ok it's a good price'. Most on that thread thought we should get better players like greizmann Fekir or even lacazette for that fee.

And I don't understand what are you trying to say in the second sentence. I don't care about Sanches. All I said was that if our scouts seem satisfied then they seem to know what they are doing.

Except Rojo none of the others can be said to have a lack of talent. It's still early for darmian and Memphis. In 2004 or even 2005 summer, we would have called Ronaldo a miss, evra and Vidic a miss in 2005 after they were underwhelming for us. Same with de gea in 2012 summer. I'm still hopeful on darmian and Memphis.

Thierry Henry himself barely knew who he is. They asked him on sky sports how he was and all he could say were generic statements like he is fast and he has played a winger. And kept repeating that he doesn't know if he will be good because he has played only 50 games. Even in the thread we had you probably remember that at the time nearly 40% (May not be the exact percentage :p) of the people voted in the poll for 'who?'.

Thierry Henry is an idiot and english fans are pathetically ignorant when it comes to continental football.

We've spent £25m on Rojo and Bebe, either our scouts are utter dickheads or that was Mendes. Nani I'll accept, he had the talent, but spending so much on Anderson so soon after such a terrible injury was dodgy. The fee for Di Maria was also extortionate given Madrid were openly trying to get rid of him.

He's obviously not the only person driving our transfer policy but we seem to be one of a few clubs where he can sell players for overly inflated fees (see Valencia spending 30m on Rodrigo amongst others). Sanches might become a world beater but there's enough suggestions that there's more talented young midfielders going for cheaper that make this rumour seem a bit questionable.

If Renato goes to the euros he would be a sub (only if Portugal's manager receives "gifts" from benfica he would be on the first 11), Carvalho, Adrien and Joao Mario are the best option for Portugal's midfield.

We spent almost £30m on Depay who is awful while missing out on Delle Alli while he was in the MK Dons team that beat us 4-0. I think it's more likely our scouts are dodgy than Mendes constantly deceiving us. Ferguson called him the best agent he has dealt with (and fergie was no fan of agents)

“Jorge Mendes is the best agent I dealt with, without a doubt. He was responsible, looked after his players… and was very fair with clubs.”

Looks like this one will be our first transfer this summer, now we will just have to wait and see if he is the new Memphis or Martial.

FFS, that's crazy. Welcome to our new midfielder then.

Di Marzio is pretty reliable but let's wait and watch. Can't give a flying feck about the price but would be funny to see people losing their shit over it.

When it's done, it's done and the fee becomes irrelevant.

Mate maybe that's applicable for you. You'll see loads and loads of posts moaning about his price even before he plays a match for us.

If the €60M is paid over 4 years then there's not much to moan about as I imagine it will be performance based.

I think Mendes does have too much of an influence, Ferguson wasn't above shady dealings. There's absolutely no way that Bebe wasn't dodgy, Ferguson didn't even watch him. That being said, I confused you for another poster who was praising our scouts. I happen to agree with you, I think our scouts have a very patchy record as well but I suspect that when we're short in a position and our scouts can't find anyone that Woodward is straight on the phone to Mendes.
