We tried to push a deal through in January. Means LVG also likes him.
I think Mourinho should be our new manager come the summer but the idea of being Mendes bitch is unappealing, I wouldn't want a lot the players he represents shunted off on us.

Talking about Bazoer, I think he is a bit similar to Fosu-Mensah, so I would prefer another type of midfielder.

We should look for a Carrick type of midfielder and alternate TFM and Schneiderlin as the defensive box to box midfielder to partner the new signing. Who is to say TFM won't prove to be as good if he is given the chance?
Can someone give me a guess - is this just william carvalho take two? Even 40m is the same amount of money being talked about. Does he have a agent like carvalho who is pushing this press?

You are not far out in the comparison. The main difference is that froma neutral position, Bazoer is more inclined to attack while TFM will submit to the defensive nature. Bazoer will go on to be one of the best CMs in his generation and I'm in agreement for variety too but it's likely that TFM will remain as a CB. As far as young CM prospects on our books goes; Goss, Pereira and maybe Rothwell (and maybe TFM) I'll go on and say what we are missing is a proper ball winner, a Mascherano type player! The closest young player in this mould is Weigl or Dahoud!
A chance to see him against a top side tonight as Benfica play Bayern.
It will be very interesting to see how he copes against one of the best teams around.

Played against Belgium the other week and was impressive.. Also in the 2nd Zenit game he played a big part in a 2-man midfield.
Like many I haven't been impressed by his YouTube videos but he oozes quality and he's been very impressive in this first half. Disciplined positionally, Passes at a fast tempo, can drive forward with the ball, is strong, fast and only 18. Benfica's best player tonight.

Did ok in the first half. Had to concentrate on defending mostly but I thought he stood his ground in midfield and definitely didn't look out of place.
So all the other reviews of him in this thread weren't proper ones?
Anyway, he's had the best half I've seen him have in any game, protected the ball well, positionally he's held his point and he's used the ball creatively when he's had the chance.
I'd say his first half last Friday against Braga was much better.
Has his average technique been exposed as his physical advantages are negated by a non Portugeese / pub side such as Bayern?

Yep, very good half from him. I'm impressed with how unaffected and cool he seems in spite of the context, reminds me of Martial in that way.

Eh, they are a poor side, he's doing it tonight against arguably the best team in the world, that's impressive to me personally, Braga were so timid that it was essay meat for Benfica as a whole.
He could go on to have the game of his life but he still isn't worth the quoted price
Why are you comparing him to two wingers? And for the record Sane is pretty gifted athletically and physically himself, a very strong young athlete.
It was a tongue in cheek post. Those two are just a few of the numerous young players that have been put forward as better alternatives.
Yeah completely different type of opposition so in that regard today's performance is a much better indicator of his quality.

Didn't meant it like that? Playing against Bayern is the toughest match of his career I think. Tells a lot about his quality and character if he's impressing in that match.
Hes been utter rubbish so far this second half (2 minutes in....)
I missed the first five minutes of the second half but has been great from what I've seen.
I was just stirring, he hadnt actually touched the ball at that point.
