Renato Sanches

I know, that's why I mentioned the teenagers like Neves, Tielemans and Bazoer before. They are the ones that can be compared with Renato Sanches.
The other players are still young 20-22. So the question is, if we sign a young midfielder.... Who would you prefer?
Neves is the best of the lot. His intelligence and natural ability is impressive but like all young CMs, consistency comes with experience. Tielemans comes a close second but despite the Belgian media's opinion, the kid needs to move to a more competitive league and a manager that can push him. Bazoer has the natural ability but it's difficult when you are in a comfort zone. I'm lucky to have watched all of them to make my judgement based on my opinions. Neves and Tielemans despite their drop in form recently (especially when you consider how many senior games Tielemans has under his belt) are still a class above Sanchez. The main that stands out for Sanchez is his physical development for his age but ability wise I'm not convinced at all. It's easy to get hyped about a kid that gets games in the senior team and his physical stature gives him an edge above his peers but when I consider the ability and the tactical nous when compared with Neves and Tielemans, their not on the same level. He might yet come good but I'm in the no camp, especially with the overrated price tag.

Explosive, pace, power and strong. It's what I've seen so far and he's not even been in the game much.

Absolutely terrible "tackle" from Sanches. Should have been a red card.

Should have been sent off tonight, he hustled a lot but didn't do a lot with the ball bar one nice through-ball to Salvio near the end.

Watched him again tonight against Zenit, I think the best word to describe him right now is industrious, he really gets around the pitch and operates as a genuine box to box CM.

Didn't impress in some 30 mins or so of the game I caught last night. Like the above poster said, runs around a lot without doing much. Saw him run with a ball a couple of times to eventually crash into defensive players à la Ando.

This was a game that Benfica looked to control on the break. He was industrious and disciplined with his play. If it were not for his positioning, closing down, and disruptive play Zenit would have won the leg. Not a lot going forward but a played his role exceptionally for a youngster.

Unverified, but seems more than likely the case.

Yes, it looks likely. I just saw him twice, he looks hardworking, talented and inconsistent. Do you know how many games he has play in the first team?

I read that Gundogan would cost around 25m-30m. So paying all that for Sanches who is not better than Gundogan doesn't make sense.

Gündogan is going to City.

Sanches is younger and doesnt have a blighted injury history.

Pretty much the above. There is no telling if Gudogans back will last in the prem; whereas Sanches looks similar to Martial in terms of potential. There's no guarantee he'll take to the prem as well, but he's had about 15 league appearances I think and will play in a Champions league quarter final, so he's coming form good pedigree.

Gundogan would probably command 3-4 times the wages, totaling somewhere in the region of £30m over a 5 year period. It's apples and oranges.

We have already a well established CM with Schneiderlin doing the donkey work, Bastian adding experience and football intelligence in midfield and Herrera adding flair and creativity. Hopefully United will bring in a CM which will return Blind in CM as Schneiderlin/cover and competition while Mata can provide us with a more attacking minded version of Ander. I haven't seen this Renato dude play but if he can be a Pogba type of player then I am sold. He will learn from Bastian and hopefully succeed him

Seems like plenty of cash

Sets the bar pretty high, he is either a Martial type success or a massive flop

I am not against Sanches, I would like to sign him. It's just that players like him, Neves, Bazoer, Tielemans are good talents but that doesn't mean that they will be worldclass players and we should play that kind of money when other teams could sign better players for less.

For example, Anderson was golden boy and unfortunately he was not as good as we expected. However, we didn't pay what Benfica wants for Renato.

Kroos and Isco were cheaper than that. Even players like Dybala who is a better talent in my opinion.

Gundogan has shown to be back as good as he used to be, that's why I prefer him over Sanches. I understand that could be a risk, but he would cost half of Sanches fee.

Bale has been struggling with injuries but I would take him for 30m than Guedes or Bernardo Silva for 50m. That's a similar scenario with Gundogan. I just think he is a good opportunity that we are not going to take and another team will.

At the end, I will support the players we sign. I just hope we don't overpay for teenagers while City sign Gundogan, Mahrez, Laporte, etc. Mainly because we need 3 new players for the first team.

Renato Sanches could end up being a better signing and forming a good midfield with Fosu-Mensah for the future... Or Gundogan could boss City's midfield while we suffer withe our CMs. We'll see next season, I hope it happens the first.

We can try for gundogan - but with a year left on his contract I suspect he will have a lot of very lucrative offers and from clubs with CL football so hopefully he signs with somebody quickly so we dont have another thiago summer where we are abot to sign him, still about to sign him, almost there, oh bollocks he has gone to bayern... lets buy fellaini instead

Haha of course not. Bale would cost around 100m. I just mentioned that I prefer Gundogan for half price of Renato's fee. So I said that Gundogan would be a good opportunity (like if Bale is 30m but we decide to sign a younger player for twice the money).

It is a lot of cash and yes that is a valid reason to be concerned about. For all we know he may turn up into another Ando. However if we're out of the CL again than I wonder if we would be able to attract the likes of Gundogan to OT. Why would he turn down the likes of Juventus for us?

Yeah Gundogan would be my first choice but he is looking increasingly unlikely.
There are players like Saul that are further along in their development than Renato and that would cost considerably less than the reported fees for Sanches. Although it all comes back to finding players that will want to join us without Champions League

Now don't get me wrong, Sanches looks like he will become a good player, but from what I've seen of him I'm not convinced he will end up in the top tier of midfielders especially for the amount of money being spoken of for him. We won't have Champions League next season though so it may end up being a Summer of us signing the 'less glamorous' type players if you will.

I hope that we wont end up Mendes bitches by bringing in Mourinho

Isnt Neves a Mendes client... I wouldn't mind him
infact with Carvahllo, Neves, Sanches and Silva Portugal have some fantastic young midfielders coming through
Isn't De Gea with Mendes as well these days?... anything that gives us a chance to keep him would be a bonus

My point is that we should buy him because he's good and worth the money we're spending on him not because he's Mendes client

he does have great potential - I would hope any deal would be similar to the martial one in that if he adapts to the pl and develops to become an important player for us then yes the potential £50-£60m would be ok... wouldnt want to spend it up front on the chance he develops though

Personally I like Neves as I think he is technically better but id be happy with either / both as long as we didnt pay too much up front as we will only have a limited amount of cash and I imagine a lot of rebuilding to do

I agree

From the few matches I've seen he looks like a bit of a donkey player. But maybe he will develop into a pony

Think it might be made up stories like Gaitan

I can't see anything so far that warrants anything close to £40 million+.

We don't do well with maverick-y players here anyway.
