Renato Sanches | Loaned to Swansea

There's next to no chance Bayern will sell him at a loss. The club has not given up on him despite a poor first season. Only if someone offers a deal north of what the club paid for Renato a transfer may become reality.

If I was working for Bayern, I would try to send him to a french club. Nantes, Lille, Bordeaux or Nice.

Renato doesn't speak French either, though. I think sending the kid back home for a year would be better.

I don't think that it will be a problem, not only there is a lot of portuguese in France but they tend to adapt very well and more importantly sending him to France instead of Portugal won't give him the impression that he is back to square one. Also it's a better league and the club mentioned have top managers who are good with young players.

Why are we talking about this guy? Unless Caf still harbours some repressed feelings for him and want him here at every cost

Because in my opinion he is too raw to know for sure that he will eventually turn into a great mid. Plus we already have Ander and Pogba in his position with Perreira and Fellaini as back up.

Jose seemed so keen on him before, saying he would have fought for him.

Fair enough the guy had 1 bad season, but surely if we / Jose were that keen before, this seems the ideal situation to pick up a player, who seems relatively easy to get?

Should be all over this. Powerful, stocky midfielder who can carry and move the ball forwards. Dont understand why we are not linked

I've still not seen what the hype is all about or what makes him special. Why should United be in for like him? He's not a DM, and he's not that good actually.

Don't agree with this.

United 'close in on Sanches'
United are closing in on Renato Sanches according to reports in the Sun.

Mourinho reportedly wanted the 19-year-old last summer but was beaten by Bayern Munich.

But the Bundesliga giants could be open to loaning out the Portuguese midfielder to United this summer.

Mourinho isn't exactly known for being great with young players, we have a fantastic young CM at the club in Pereira, there's no need to take focus away from him on a project like Sanches who needs a lot of development as well.

1 bad season, in what his 2nd full year, breaking into the Bayern team?

We have Carrick, Felliani, Lingard and McTominay - sure he will be fine.

I all on board. Our midfield would start looking a lot stringer with him and Matic coming.

It's not 1 bad season, he's just not very good & was massively over-hyped. He played a little over half a season for Benfica 1st team before moving to Bayern (an obviously wrong move as he bought into the hype). That we have some bang average players doesn't mean we should sign another average Tom. We'll be better off with someone more experienced at the top level.

So where would he play if Matic is coming as well? Matic would take over from Carrick. Sanches to come and sit on the bench, because Herrera and Pogba are not coming out of the side? Also if it is a loan according to that article, why should we do the developing that Bayern weren't capable of?

Loan to buy, is that not what the report said?

There is plenty of games for Pogba, Sanches and Herrara to share.

Remember how shit we went when Pogba got injured? We need more options than we have, if it's loan to buy then this should be wrapped up before I even press 'post reply'.

So it was 1 bad season, as he hasn't even had 2 full years yet?

FFS how some players are written off on here is ridiculous.

Yeah I'm sure Bayern handed over £30m plus because of some hype machine.

Sanches is a good promising talented footballer which so far hasn't worked out at Bayern.

It's so frustrating on here. Everything has to be now, there's no foresight or patience. NOW! NOW! NOW!

It's why I took a small step away but its already getting back to those annoying ways and the season hasn't even begun!

Remind me when did Bayern become infallible? Listen, I think he simply is NOT as good as a lot of you think he is..I don't know if I posted it here or on twitter, but this has been my position on him when we were linked before he went to Bayern. He's nothing special, if he is, he hasn't shown it. I think we need players who are ready to come in and improve us, not another one that has more hype than talent (see Depay). If you want to take a step away because people see things differently, good luck.

He would be good rotation with Herrera. If he keeps it simple and just uses his energy and stamina to carry the ball or shut opponents down he can be an effective player.

Doesn't have the playmaking ability yet though from what I've seen.

He's just incredibly raw and needs quite some time to adapt to the highest level. Whoever gets him needs a great coach and loads of patience. But if you have those things, he could become a great player. But I don't think it will work out for us. I guess you guys might actually be a good choice, especially since your coach happens to be Portugese.

They didn't. But there's no way they drop 35 million on hearsay. They obviously rate him and I trust those more than you.

Only worth buying if he is going to play in our first team and I am not convinced he is ready.

Bayern willing to sell him after observing him up close for 12 months tells us more about Sanches than Bayern buying him in the first place.
Bayern are rarely this hasty

And already an admirer.

That helps, too. But he seems to struggle quite heavily with the integration into the team. Doesn't speak any German or English and seems to be isolated from the rest of the team. A coach who believes in him and shares the cultural background might help a lot.
But wherever he goes, he needs to mature a lot and needs time and patience.

could simply be the case that he hasn't settled and has expressed that he doesn't want to stay next year if he won't get more first team chances.

@Drainy
Then why not a loan? The kid isn't even getting sub appearances, there's no way Bayern sell after a year if they rated him.
Until word comes out that it's Sanches who wants the move, then it's a bit different.
Nothing points to that.

But it's not ridiculous to splash 40mil on a player who has less than 1 season of decent football under his belt and is being moved on by a similarly big club after just one season.

This is pretty much the question, for me. I think we could get away without buying a specialist DM, but what we'd need in that case would be a good level of cover and rotation for Herrera and Pogba. I'd much rather a young player with potential and a high ceiling than an older experienced player on the way down. Once the first eleven is solid and consistent it'd benefit us much more in the long term. Are we at that point yet, and is Sanches good enough?

Bringing Anderson and Fellaini into the conversation is not without merit. He reminds me of Anderson a little in that when he's on the ball he doesn't often lose possession (Ando was great for that, and the opposition often only gained the ball when he tried to pass it!). Fellaini is unfairly maligned in some ways, but if it was late in the game and Herrera needed to go off for whatever reason, he's the last player I'd want there, personally. As far from our goal as possible is the best place for him.

Could this kid be any better?

this kid is damaged goods at the minute. Anyone interested in him, do what Bayern did with Rodriguez, take him on an extended loan first. His confidence is shot, got too much praise too soon for what he had achieved. Not too unlike us with Januzaj. I hope he gets his mojo back. good luck to him.

I just get the feeling he would be Anderson Mk2 . he definitely has talent and might be worth a punt but I would be very cautious, a loan deal but no more until he improves significantly.

I Agree with the exception that united is a good destination for him. Way too much pressure to get results with a team that is still not clicking.
He needs to join a team where he is starting the majority of games. We won't do that here.

We should be giving Pereira more chances in midfield rather than signing this guy.
