Religion, what's the point?

Aw c'mon, some of you would make really great Christians/Muslims/Jews, don't be so hard on yourself.

As the great sage Jim Jefferies said unto us, atheists are promised hookers and cocain in Hell, so with great regret I'd have to pass on your offer.

We Christians believe that even Hell falls eventually so I'm afraid nothing that good really lasts forever I'm afraid. You all get enlisted one way or another, we get you in the end.

All the more reason to join the Devil, no? :smirk:

At least we get to have fun, however long that is.

In all seriousness some of us don't believe the Fire & Brimstone version of Hell, for us Hell is merely a place without connection to God, being completely cut off.

We do have a decent idea that Stella Artois is on tap at the free forever bar in Heaven though. Or something good anyway. ;)

I think the jews have enough of a bad time as it is but by all means when you insult Allah and God you are also insulting the jewish name for him, Jehovah amongst others.

Just to point out the obvious, Arabic-speaking Jews and Christians also refer to God as 'Allah'.

We have plenty of people from Muslim backgrounds on here yet I have seen no-one insult Allah, it is interesting.

@Mockney's original "God's a cnut" post was (jokingly) directed at a Muslim member of this forum who subsequently lost his shit over it.

Yes I remember reading it.

If I really disliked a person and went to heaven, I would like to think that I wouldn't have to deal with said person. But what if spending eternity with me was their idea of heaven? would I be stuck with the prick?

I wouldn't worry about it. Heaven is a ridiculous idea.

Sorry to have been so trying. I'd had more faith in your being able to get to the point a bit quicker but as you say, you are tired. Sleep tight.

Were you really operating under the assumption that all questions and comments in this thread directed against god didn't also apply to allah et al?

Who is asking silly questions now? I somehow think it would be obvious to anyone that Allah is hardly ever addressed on this thread.

That was a short sleep Grinner.

It's the same made bloke with the same beard in the same cloud in the same sky.

Now, if you were to argue that Niltsi, the Navajo god of wind gets off lightly here, then you're right. We could be more critical of Niltsi.

I'm almost certain that we have agreed it is the same person, how do you know he has a beard?
When we say god from now on, how many other names do we have to list?
You can list what you like, I will still find it hysterical that people are wary of insulting Muslims.

You're making a fool of yourself here.

Maybe not in this particular thread. But if your complaint is that Muslims get an easier ride on here than Christians, I can't agree - on the forum in general Islam is under far more scrutiny than Christianity, just see some of the attacks on Islam after each terror attack. Just last week there was another post calling Muhammad a pedophile. Fortunately we have some very patient Muslim members on here who, for some reason, are always willing to stick around not just to offer apologetics but to engage in these discussions.

 not true at all @oates , i haven't been following this thread that much but throughout the CE it happens.

I must have missed that, I think there are a lot of people who are patient on here in general.

Have you seen Allah called a cnut? I probably missed that too.
I'm pretty sure our atheist friends are not picky and harbour that same feeling for gods of all religions (although i consider the Christian god to be the same as the Muslim god).

You are maybe evading the question don't you think?

Plenty have called Mohammed a cnut, a warmonger, a pedo etc...

Which makes this

False.
Mohammed isn't Allah is he? I kind of feel like some people just don't want to answer a straight question.

Having a go at Christianity is more acceptable than having a go at Islam. No denying that. People are labeled Islamophobic all the time but you won't see many labeled Christian-phobic (is that a word?). Probably down Christianity not being followed with as much fervour as it once was.

In truth Prophet was a massive cnut unlike Jesus who seemed like a decent man.

You would have ask the question to the person who called god a cnut if he only meant Christian's God only.

I admit my post was an assumption but wager it's a correct one.

But being a Muslim myself, i strongly disagree with your comment that Islam get's an easier ride on this forum.

The majority of forum members, bar those who are Muslims, speak English as their native tongue, or are versed in Western culture so refer to the Abrahamic deity as God primarily, Jehovah at a push. It doesn't mean they are afraid of using Allah.

You've picked a very strange bone. I doubt jihadists (if any) reading this thread will take kindly to Mohammed being called a paedophile.

I don't have to ask the person, I can ask anyone on here thanks. As to the rest well at least someone else isn't so sure.

I don't think there's one right answer re atheism belief/not belief debate above (or it was above until I came back to this draft). Atheism has always been a lack of belief and not a belief that something doesn't exist to me, but quite recently I've changed my opinion.

Atheism is belief that pertains to God, which makes it somewhat dependant on the existence of theology IMO. Atheism and agnosticism aren't mutually exclusive. You can be both. You can believe there is no God, but don't make the claim that God doesn't exist. Believing there is no God vs not having a belief in God are two different things, though most people I know - who are atheist - fall into the second category. While the difference may be subtle and you can say I'm playing the semantics game, it's quite significant and valid. I suppose when someone uses the term "atheist" ambiguously, they can be referring to either one of the definitions above. All about the technical and colloquial definitions.

@oates

I assume when people say 'God' they are talking about every concept of God.

Sikhs for example have our name for God but we still refer to God as 'God' in English discussions. This is the same God in our belief system as Allah, Christian God, Jewish God etc. Whenever I'm discussing on the forum I think I've always used the term 'God'. It's just the first hand term- Allah and a Christian God may be the same, but maybe a different religion feels their God is unique. Does the atheist have to insult every God individually where they are not considered the same? It's just an all encompassing term, imo anyway

I guess if you want insult a specific God then you should use a specific name or make it clear in your post.

We'll see then but again, not a straight answer to a straight question. Oh well. We are flogging a dead horse perhaps.

Well as English is my first language i would say if someone called God a cnut it would include 'my God' (Muslim).

Why would any English speaker use "Allah"?
Kind of covered really above. Perhaps I could just answer one person on the same question even if it is a name and not another language.
