Reece Oxford

10m for a supposedly great English talent is quite cheap on the whole. If he's that good then we should be all over this regardless of whether we already have good talents.

Must say I wasn't as impressed with the Arsenal game as some have been. But that's pretty much the only time I've seen him play.

He's a CB though right? He was being used by West Ham as a DM in the first team. Never a bad thing to snap up English young talent, but we have some really good prospects coming through the Youth team. Having said all that, if Reece did suddenly start playing a bit more next season his transfer fee would double. So probably a good idea to get in early and take a punt.

Rather concentrate on the youth we've already got than buy more. We need a world class centre back to slot straight in.

TWHW EXCLUSIVE: MANCHESTER UNITED LODGE OFFICIAL BID FOR OXFORD!
http://www.thewesthamway.co.uk/2016...clusive-manchester-united-lodge-official-big/

We can exclusively confirm (through ExWHUEmployee’s sources) that Manchester United have lodged an official bid for highly rated youngster Reece Oxford. There has been a lot of speculation in the press about this and we can reveal that an official offer in the region of £15m has arrived at the club for Bilic to consider. This proves a tricky problem for the manager to face. The club had offered Reece a new deal but his agent has been gunning for more money and the terms have not been signed. Manchester United and their new manager Jose Mourinho are long term admirers of the talented youngster. Mourinho thinks that Oxford could be a perfect short term replacement for Michael Carrick or equally be able to slot into the defence (his natural position) this season especially in the Europa League.

Oxford has two years remaining on his current terms and it will be up to the manager Slaven Bilic to agree to the move. He faces having an unhappy youngster should he reject it (unless a change of heart happens) or he faces losing a highly talented youngster who will no doubt be a regular international player in a few years time. Should the bid be accepted this would bring better news for the likes of James Tomkins and Reece Burke who will see their major competition for a place leave the club and make their futures more secure.

Whatever happens with this deal and others make sure you check regularly with the West Ham Way and our ITK team for exclusive breaking transfer news. We have seen many websites and national newspaper claim our news as their own, we would urge you to quote the site as we seek legal advice on this matter.

As a site we hope that Oxford will chose to stay at the club as he has a great future, as do we as a club and the gulf between us and Manchester United is no longer as great as it used to be.

I like what I've seen from him so far, and to get this big of a talent (and british) for £15m-£20m is a really good piece of business if you ask me. I don't know if he's any better than the young CBs and DMs we already have, but it's good for everyone involved to have some competition for the spots.

What is his better position? Defensive midfield or CB?

Keep dreaming

They really believe that a new stadium they managed to get out of luck (let's face it, they could never afford their own) will make them an elite club ..

Anyway, what's this about Carricks replacement? I thought he was just a CB. Is he a good passer, or good at driving with the ball?

£15m is nothing if he's as good as people say, worse case scenario we sell him on in a year or two for 7-8m.

I've just realised that I haven't watched him play since Arsenal vs West Ham in the opening weekend of the season just gone. He was close to winning MOTM in that game, if it wasn't for Sakho (?) scoring two. I believe he playing in the midfield that day. Surprised that I haven't heard more of him as the season has gone by.

Keep dreaming

To be fair, at this moment in time, the gulf isn't as great as it used to be so he is right.

Why get bullied into over paying now when we can wait til next year and West Ham will be a bit more desperate?

.

I think that's why he wants to leave, he hasnt played enough. He played 210 minutes in the PL and 15 mins in the FA cup. works out to just over 2.5 games the whole season. with the majority of those minutes coming in the first game when he played 80 mins.

Ah wow that's shocking - especially given his debut.

Exactly, we finished 23 points ahead of them in 14/15, this year the gap was 4 points. They have improved and we have gotten worse. At this point in time the gap isn't huge in footballing terms.

Mourinho should hopefully help restore the balance.

I would be absolutely delighted if we sign Oxford. I completely appreciate the concerns of some that we have Fosu-Mensah, Tuanzebe (I've watched both regularly and rate them both very highly) and RoShaun too. However, we are by no means stacked with quality defenders or midfielders, and this is one of the most highly rated young players in the country.

I'm from East London and have always heard and seen fantastic things about Reece Oxford, he's captained their U21 team as a 17 year old and is the youngest ever player to play for West Ham. His ability, maturity and physique make him a very interesting prospect right now for us. I also agree with the assertion that you cannot afford to pass up the chance to sign these types of talents when the chance is there rather than waiting for them to become fully established like Stones and then see bids of even £40m+ rejected.

Saying all of that, there is of course no guarantee that he will fulfil his potential but at the prices quoted, it's certainly worth the risk (particularly if Rio also joins the coaching staff).

If he wants to leave due to lack of playing time, and we're bidding for him, then that's pretty interesting. Signing him could be seen as a statement of intent from Mourinho that he will use youth and look to the long term more than he has at previous clubs.

Personally I wouldn't bother though. We've already got a plethora of young defenders.

The kid is a cocky cnut if he wants to leave due to lack of playing time. For half the season he was 16 years old ffs.

I'm all for this.

He is clearly highly rated by West Ham having made his debut at 16 and they have been great producers of players over the years.

For a young English talent £15 million is pretty cheap in todays day and age. I hope we get him.

Mourinho wouldn't use him so we won't buy him. Jose will go for someone ready now rather than take a chance on a developing unproven youngster.

The best 2 CBs this country has ever seen came from West Ham youth academy. They had more talent in their right toe then all our homegrown defenders put together throughout the SAF's reign. Just saying...
Yes, I am a big fan of Liam Ridgewell and Izzy Iriekpen too.

If you say so... This is technically Mourinhos first signing if it happens

For West ham fans maybe.. 2016/17 will be a brand new season and I expect along with most people West Ham's gulf.. to be nowhere near us.

The kid has yet to complete a PL game and 15m is pretty cheap? Fook me mate.

If Mourinho's Chelsea signed him I wouldn't see him playing much to be honest, don't see this happening.

£15m is a lot for him considering the amount of Premier League games he has played.
But I will say that he does look talented, was captain of the U21 team and their U21 player of the year, as they won the U21 cup

I hope we're not that crazy as to pay 15m pounds for a center back who has played 250 minutes in his professional career.

The best 2 CBs this country has ever seen came from West Ham youth academy. They had more talent in their right toe then all our homegrown defenders put together throughout the SAF's reign. Just saying...
The cold hard truth is that very few of our young CB's will make it here.

It wasnt that long ago when people were saying the same about Keane and Thorpe.

If the club have seen something in him such that they are willing to pay up so much, then Id trust them. We seem to do quite well with young English players that we sign.

If it means Rojo leaving I dont mind if we bring in a tea spoon. Oxford would be much better than a spoon.

Young British player with upside and how much do you get for 10-15 million these days? Often a decent squad player/backup? Worth a Punt.

No matter what he costs I am sure we add a frontline cb as well
