Reece Oxford

He'd played over 20 times and was keeping Clyne on the bench for some of those games. He was also playing a higher level internationally. It isn't even close.
Fair enough, Chambers did have a higher level of competition at Southampton but 20 games is hardly a massive sample size to go off.

How many young players have one good season before going off the boil though? Granted, Chambers was more proven than Oxford is now but I don't think the difference is massive.

Bizarre comment ! £8m for a 16 year old who's unproven must be one hell of a tempting offer for WHU. I doubt they will be able to resist that for a kid who has basically done nothing so far.
No its not! 8 million is nothing in todays market!! He's one of the biggest talents in British football and if he goes on to fulfill his talent will be worth at least £40 million

Won't be able to resist £8 million? LOL

He's hyped alright but he has hasn't played nearly enough for me to make any judgement on him.

He probably thinks he should have gotten more playing time this season. Probably a bad move for him West Ham could be in the Europa League next season so more opportunities for playing time. Too bad though he can hang on the bench with Patrick Roberts at City.

its been already said: TFM, Williams, Tuanzebe, Poole, CBJ we have too many players with around the same potential than him, he hasnt prooved anything so far..

If he leaves and ends up at City to fill their English quota he's an idiot, or taking very bad advice.

He's quality but timing is not right for us.

We've also got a bunch of exciting defenders coming through in the same age group.

He'll go to City, play one league cup game in 3 years and end up at Sunderland.

If he does go to City he's got his head up his arse and so have the people around him. Mind you Premier League football has it's head up it's arse full stop.

He'll stay at West Ham

I think this has been blown out of proportion. His agent is just trying to get him a better deal and will eventually re-sign.

The amount of teenagers who have done feck all and refuse to renew to get more money is through the roof in the past year.

Agents have a lot to answer for.
Typically they answer to their clients though... who are the players... who have employed the agent primarily to maximise their earnings.

Look at Odegaard - he may never make it at Madrid - he could get an injury and never play a game anywhere again - but he would still be financially set for life.

Problem is, you just have to call their bluff if you think having that not having agent/attitude at your club is worth more than having a talented player with an agent/attitude. Also, clubs are always doing the reverse. Get the best deal for the club and tie them down for years.

As Ferguson once said (something along the lines of this at least), United should always be at the front of the line for young English talent. Having watched him at Under 21 level, and him impressing as captain at only 16 as someone's already brought up, the talent is clear and it wouldn't be the gamble that those who have only seen him in one match are making out.

Very versatile as well, I wouldn't be for signing a young centre back but he's also good in midfield and that's where he originally was anyway. I'd try for him or Lewis Cook from Leeds this summer definitely.

Talent-wise Oxford's definitely good enough, but a biased side on me would rather see TFM/Williams/Tuanzebe/Poole etc who are all around the same age to be give chances instead.

I think affinity to youth players is dangerous at times, and frankly a bit odd. I'll explain.

Oxford is what, 16/17. The day he signs, he'd be a United player, a United young player at that, and we'll then want the best one to play. The cycle will then repeat itself the next year if we are linked to a promising young player in his position. People will say that they don't want player x, they want Oxford to get more chances instead, and so on and so forth.

Without checking the thread again, I am almost certain posters didn't want us to sign Martial on the basis that they prefer Wilson to play. Well, they are both United players now, and nobody wants Wilson to play instead.

Essentially, and this may not directly translate to Oxford vs TFM - but there is almost a tendency to say 'don't sign player x, he is better than player y, which means y won't play'. Players come and go. Most of the youngsters people have been attached to are youngsters who themselves were brought in from other clubs and replaced youngsters who were here before them. So in reality, not a big deal if Adnan or Andreas don't get to play, they both came in from elsewhere themselves, and if we played Sane instead, who may just be better than Adnan, we wouldn't care within two games.

I can understand the attachment to Manchester kids or players we have seen grow up here since kids, but other than that, they were all new players here themselves once before we got attached. Same will happen with other players.
