Nah, the only one that really had any kind of depth was Walter. Even Jessie himself didn't overly change much after Season 1, was his character all that different from the end of season 1 to the end of the show? Not overly. They were all dislikeable shites too. Even Jessie became a bit of a whining twit. Walters family were shite, annoying characters.
I think the problem is that people enjoyed the premise of the show and unlike other shows it did at least end well. The fly episode was by far the best episode in the show, its one memorable episode that I can remember. It also probably aired at the right time for the demographic of this forum, most of us were young 20's to 30's. Anyway, for me it's not even a top 10 show, too many characters in the show that I found incredibly tedious and dislikeable. Ultimately it was carried by Walter and Jessie and both characters went through stages of being deeply annoying shites. It was hard to route for anyone tbh.
Spartacus only at 21 is borderline corruption.

Twin P and The Wire share my personal no1 spot. What I found very cool about the Wire is that you have a great ensemble of characters that all convincingly interact with each other, everybody has their own arc and it‘s all very plausible. And all that works within a frame where each of the five seasons has a very clear and distinguished focus (street level / shipment and import / school system / media / politics) but it all grows together seamlessly and naturally.
Writing all that though: it does contain one cnut that has no development whatsover and stands out like a sour thumb imho (and thinking about it I also think it‘s cool that way): Herc.

Still not finished that show, think i've tried watching it about 5 or 6 times. I'm like a season or so away from it ending. Can't put my finger on why I struggle to continue watching it but each time I gradually lose interest and stop watching only to return to it in like 12 months. Does it at least end well or is it another show with a shitty ending?

I can't believe how few people had this as their number 1. Baffling. Great show. I had put off watching it for years as I thought it was going to be overrated and it wasn't the type of subject matter I watch. Then decided to give it a go and couldn't put it down. I never rewatch shows, just don't have the patience, but this one is the only exception.
Is this really the first show/movie where you rooted for criminals vs police?
I'm perfectly happy with either The Sopranos or The Wire being number 1. I chose Sopranos but ask me in a month and it could be the other way around. Everything else is a distant third place.

Each to their own I guess. I quite liked Skylar. Think she got unfair stick for blocking the protagonist, and some of her later season stuff was quite clever. I thought Hank, Saul and Mike were solid characters with enough background and motivations. Jesse did basically remain the same. Gus was decent but a bit caricaturish.
First show, probably. I watched it before Sopranos and a couple other shows. I think my first watch of it was like 2009?
Maybe I should say it was the first show that portrayed it so well.
A lot of people either started watching it too late with a million absurd notions about it in their heads or just completely miss the entire point of the writing and what Vince created in the first place, trying to watch most of it as some sort of standard crime thriller drama.
An easy way to check how on track someone is with it is to ask them whether or not they enjoyed Fly. If anyone couldn't get on board with that, they are never gonna get close to what the whole show was about.
Game of Thrones getting 6th is incredible. It'd be correct if it stopped at season 4, maybe.
Yeah that's probably fair and I agreed with the overall point but as kids we were always up for the bad guys

Agreed, I watched a bit of Vikings and it was entertaining for a while but it's fairly mediocre overall.
It would be my number 1 choice if it stopped at season 4. Number 6 is fair.

So I said I'd watch the highest ranked show I've not seen. That's Mad Men. It's saved me from watching Blackadder at least.
Lack of Peep Show is alarming
It declined so spectacularly that it tainted the rest of the show for me. It's also why I didn't put Battlestar Galactica in my list, even though it was a top 5 show for most of its run.
Which is what I am saying. If there's one episode that encapsulates the entire show perfectly, it's that. People who hate it most likely missed the entire point of the show and are likely the ones who moan about gus fring walking out with half his face missing.
It should be there instead of something like Dark. I enjoyed Dark but it's not top 30.
I'm usually top tier in everything I do in life.

I found The Wire to be a mixed experience:
Season 1 was quite good, S2 I hated, S3&4 were top quality and S5 was decent.
Breaking Bad on the other hand maintained excellent throughout.

Should I watch Sopranos? Keep in mind that I find pretty much anything that has to do with Italian-American mafia men to be dull, uncool and unsexy. Including Scorsese's stuff (sorry @Sweet Square ). I'd also have to watch it alone. I tried to watch 1 or 2 episodes with the missus a few years back and she hated it. I wasn't very invested either but I reckon it gets better once the story gets going.
S2 threw me off initially because it takes you through a separate storyline but on subsequent watches I absolutely loved it. 1,3 and 4 are undisputed. But the point about the last is true and Breaking Bad is one of the greatest final arcs of any show and just those last 4-5 episodes are just unreal.
I've repeated both more times I can remember and it's pretty hard to compare them. They are massively far apart in what they intend to be but ultimately most people are impacted more by The Wire simply because of the topics it touches while maintaining am extraordinary level throughout. Like even the last season only loses out to the previous seasons but is still easily a top tier watch compared to most other shows. I don't know of another show that made me feel a part of everything that was happening like that.
I don't use my laptop much anymore but till the time I did for a good few years there was always a tab with the streaming site open and The Wire playing on loop just every single day.
Yes. James who plays Tony Soprano is just masterful. He’s a psycho man child and a complete pos. But dammit he’s never not entertaining. He’s worth to watch it alone. His family are annoying but it’s all about him. Each season gets better.

Switch out James with Bryan Cranston and Tony Soprano with Walter White and remove "man child" and that's Breaking Bad in a nutshell.
So that's me convinced!
It is unlike some or actually most mafia shows/films in that it has nearly no elements of glorification in it. Therefore it doesn't portray the mob as this all powerful phenomenon that can't be fought (as it once was), but portrays it as a way of life slowly fading and dying. Revealing its own values as mere self protective claims. The mob is in crisis. It possesses no sex appeal or charme at all. And while the mob is in crisis, so is America. People are insecure of their place in the new world. They are in constant fear in the aftermath of 9/11. To them, the mob has mostly stopped being a relevant form of danger and has become a source of entertainment. An escape from reality, even though it is reality itself. They are voyeuristic and cheering for its survival.
Right in this climate we meet Tony fecking Soprano. Charme, anger, humour and depression crammed into a single person. A force of nature incapable of healing itself. Like the mob itself a wounded animal fighting for survival.
We are confronted with immense guilt and the many people who have become guilty. We see the lines blur between victim and perpetrator. We fall in love with complicated people. Often for the wrong reasons. We hate others. Sometimes for the wrong reasons.
The characters are deep and complicated. They reveal new layers of their personality to us all the time. They develop. They surprise, disappoint and wow us. All this is accompanied by beautiful music, incredible acting and overall top quality direction. It's a masterpiece of mind and craft.
Sopranos at number 2 and Twin Peaks in the top 10. I'll take that from you uncultured troglodytes.

Im a little biased as i loved the show but for some maybe the ending was a little passive.
At least The Walking Dead is not in the top 30.
My son starting watching this and it took me years to actually start watching it.
Started well but dear god, never has a program fallen off such a cliff the further it went on.
My son stopped watching it after a few series but me being the stubborn fool I had to watch until the bitter end.
The last few series were some of the worst TV ive watched.
I think they have a new series out now but I just will not go through that again.
