I don't know what's going on but... Thank you? :nervous:

Cheers. Didn’t know LA Takedown was such a main inspiration, was a enjoyable watch.

Agree with you on the ending of Heat. it’s a bit much and silly although the moby track is a banger. I wished it ended with them in the air field but we never see the outcome.

Disagree with the Waingro death. I’ve always viewed that character as the polar opposite of De Niro. Neil is a professional criminal who takes pride in his work whereas Waingro is a hired thug who only cares about moment to moment violence.

The Waingro character goes against Mann philosophy, I can why he gets done in so easily. Also De Niro shouting “Look at me” just before popping in the guy in the head is a great scene.
I agree with a lot of that, but you could argue that going back to kill Waingro is the one time McCauley loses control and acts on emotion.

He does go to kill Van Zant I guess as a counter to that, but after the big heist they've obviously got every cop in town looking for them.

I need to watch LA Takedown again cos it's been over a decade so my memory of it is likely rusty. Your ambiguous ending suggestion sounds good.

A film of so many great performances, Crowe, Phoenix, Harris Connie Nielsen, and Oliver Reed's last film appearance, the fight scenes are stunning and the last bit where he is dying always chocks me up.
I hve watched t many times ad will watch it many times more.

Yup, one of the movies I never get tired of watching.

This film took the serial killer genre to a new level for me with some brilliant performances and scenes. All the adaptations from Harris’s books were good but this was outstanding.

Tbh arguably De Niro fecks up at the very beginning of the film by hiring Wringo as a late replacement, who he knows nothing about. And as you say his decision to go after both the investment banker and Wringo(Which leads to his downfall)are emotional responses.

Which I guess this is all a deliberate choice by Mann. The characters in his films are always full of contractions and it’s a battle between their ideology and the material circumstances they find themselves in(Basically everyone in a Micheal Mann movie is running out of time).

I pretty sure @Rooney in Paris has talked about the men at work philosophy of Micheal Mann films. It seems for Mann it’s more morally offensive to be bad at your job then it is to leave the woman you love in under 30 seconds.
Your ambiguous ending suggestion sounds good.
I’m alway disappointed that De Niro dies at the end. For me at least he puts in the best performance and the whole film rest on him as the counter weight to the more extreme characters.

Embarrassed to say this is the only film in the top 30 that I haven't yet seen...

What are the films flaws?
Under developed characters (except the main few)
Hammy acting
Eli Roth
Brad Pitt's "performance"
Think the story becomes a little stale by the end

I do like the film but it's not the masterpiece some people say it is. Don't think it's even Tarantiino top 3.

All this Heat talk has got me excited to read Heat 2, which Santa left under the tree for me this Christmas.

Is it prequel or sequel? It would be great to see old gang team up again on the set.

Beyond the opening scene, I think Inglorious isn't all that. I enjoyed it first time round but the second watch opened up all it's flaws.
I remember going to the cinema thinking „This one I‘ll watch numerous times.“ Never happened and don’t think I’ll ever watch it a second time but it‘s great for the Bingo gif.

Really surprised to see Gladiator so high.

Love this film. One of my favourites. Also the highest ranked film in this list that didn't actually make anyone's top 2.

I should rewatch it actually. I remember it as being absolutely brilliant - but it's also been so long since I saw it that I don't remember anything apart from its premise.

It's a very theater-style film btw. It doesn't add much in the way of cinema to the premise of the original play, but then not all films have to! (See also Glengarry Glen Ross.)

Glengarry Glen Ross is one of my favourite ever films.

It's funny: I've never been into theatre and I have absolutely no desire/interest to go watch a play - but GGR is set up a lot like a play (even the way characters walk off/come on in a scene), and I absolutely love it.

I used to love this movie, until that freezer bit when Jack gets freed... Once I thought about that bit and how it's the only bit that can't be rationally explained (to my satisfaction), it kind of went out of my personal top 10.
