Film RedCafe's Favourite Movies Of All Time Contest (THE RESULTS)

Same here, and a great song at the ending too.
Exactly.
I prefered Once Upon a Time in the West. Think its his best movie but the Good, the Bad and the Ugly was great too.
Once Upon a Time in the West would probably make my top 10
Yeah, it's got more depth as a whole. It's not 'just' a treasure hunt. I do also really like The Good etc though.

Final one of the day. I didn't vote for it but I'm ok with it because the memory of my mom's face when she first saw this is precious to me

I enjoyed the original for what it was but only seen the rebooted run since then and those are very forgettable/shit.
I was watching a documentary series about the making of famous films on Netflix some months ago (The Movies That Made Us), and it had one episode about Jurassic Park. Apparently, it's one of the first films that has realistic special effects blended with live action. Originally, all dino action was supposed to be done with live-size models, but some programmers managed to get Spielberg to see a wireframe model of a running dino they had been making, and then that's what Spielberg wanted. (I might be getting some details wrong, but it's something along these lines.) There are still models of course, but like the horde of dinos running, that's all VFX.

That's nothing special anymore now, when a film like Guardians of the Galaxy is probably 99% shot in front of a blue (green?) screen, and hence it is no longer noticeable. But so there's actually a revolutionary element to this first film.

The "World" series is complete and utter garbage. It manages to make Jurassic Park 3 look good, and that was terrible.

The first one though, will forever remain a masterpiece for me. Granted, there is some nostalgia involved as I first saw it as a little kid in the cinema back in1993 (never understood how they let me in) and it kickstarted a dinosaur obsession in 6 year old me. I rewatch it at least once per year and I still get goosebumps at that scene where Sam Neill and Laura Dern first get to see the dinos, with John Williams' brilliant, swelling soundtrack behind it. And then of course Richard Attenborough's famous "Welcome to Jurassic Park" line. It's probably my single, favourite scene in movie history.

I remember in Jurassic World, they bring in the John Williams soundtrack... Whilst the camera pans to some rubbish bins lying on the floor

The last fullcolor print cinema ticket with T-Rex on it. That is my memory of Jurassic Park. Good old days :)

Thank you. It's been fun. Though the final list is very questionable.
I'd like to be able to say that your work has been worthwhile but the final list is pretty underwhelming  It's been fun though :)

Out of interest, what was the original ending ?
It's in the much lower budget TV movie version Mann made beforehand, LA Takedown.
It's on youtube.

McCauley goes to the hotel to kill Waingro, like in Heat, but Waingro's waiting for him and shoots him through the door. Pacino's character twigs what's happening and goes and kills Waingro iirc- it's years since I saw it, but never made sense Waingro got killed so easily in Heat and the de Niro/Pacino ending was a bit mawkish for me.

Great effort @Dirty Schwein, making this list with all us numpties whinging seems more cumbersome than my actual job. And I even get paid.

Mental to have 2 Batman films in the final list. I mean, I liked them, but best ever :nervous:

Beyond the opening scene, I think Inglorious isn't all that. I enjoyed it first time round but the second watch opened up all it's flaws.
It you ignore all the scenes without Christoph Waltz, you end up with a fantastic movie with one of the best acting performances I can remember

I thought Silence of the Lambs would have broad enough appeal to make the sweet sixteen. First surprise in this tier.

This is the only movie in the entire top 30 that didn't make anyone's top 3. But it was in loads of lists.

Cheers. Didn’t know LA Takedown was such a main inspiration, was a enjoyable watch.

Agree with you on the ending of Heat. it’s a bit much and silly although the moby track is a banger. I wished it ended with them in the air field but we never see the outcome.

Disagree with the Waingro death. I’ve always viewed that character as the polar opposite of De Niro. Neil is a professional criminal who takes pride in his work whereas Waingro is a hired thug who only cares about moment to moment violence.

The Waingro character goes against Mann philosophy, I can why he gets done in so easily. Also De Niro shouting “Look at me” just before popping in the guy in the head is a great scene.

I'm surprised this just scraped top 20 considering it smashed the Action & Adventure round.

Die Hard On A Plane aka Con Air still the better action film by a stretch.

A film of so many great performances, Crowe, Phoenix, Harris Connie Nielsen, and Oliver Reed's last film appearance, the fight scenes are stunning and the last bit where he is dying always chocks me up.
I hve watched t many times ad will watch it many times more.

It does have many iconic moments and memorable scenes that's for sure.
