Redcafe Snooker

Wenbo and Sullivan are effectively his semi and final. Like with Fu I see another slapping by Selby. He might be boring but Selby is a true professional never opening the door for the opponent regardless of the scoreline.

You're probably right but I've never seen Ding cue as well as this and his safety play was what set him apart in this match. Before I've always doubted him, but he had the aura of a champion today so I am hoping he can replicate this against Selby.

Can anyone answer me what a 'kick' actually is? You hear them talk about it often when you watch the snooker but just in two contexts;

- 'He's got a bad kick there'
- 'Nobody actually knows what causes the kick'

But never do they actually explain what they're referring to, it always looks like a normal shot to me and I can never understand what they're talking about.

It's when chalk dust (or static depending on who you believe) creates a bad contact so the ball jumps a little or has a dull connection. The object ball can then go in an unintended direction (slightly) or at an unintended speed whereas the cue ball loses any spin that has been applied and ends up in a different spot to where the player wanted.

Awesome win for Ding, so pleased for him. Seems a really nice bloke and it would be great to see him win his first World Championship.

If it's Selby v Higgins in the final, then god help the ratings. The only reason to watch that would be if you had a bout of insomnia. Actually in this instance that's the case with whoever Selby plays in the final. Come on Ding.

Anyone else think Ronnie deliberately didn't go for the 147, again? To me, it was as clear as day. I don't blame him though. 5k to do it now, he won 147k for it before.

I do not believe so. He wanted to come back to the black, but the screw back shot didn't work as planned, and was left on immensely hard black. Pink was the right choice there.

At around 53:00

EDIT: Also he said himself he was going for the black:

At around 1:25

Doherty annoys me with his 'kuh' sound every time before he speaks. Maybe it's just me.

Selby looks unstoppable at times, Ding holding up well so far though.

I wondered about the Ronnie pink.

Big 147 prize I think we'd have seen a deeper screw with a lot more reverse side on the cue ball. Played a much easier shot to ensure the 146 & make a point about the 147 prize maybe.

Selby or Higgins for me.

Selby is a great player. He just doubled a red to the green pocket off of the cushion down by the black.

Bit old school but very good at it.

Hope Selby wins it fantastic player and temperament, just rarely if hardly ever flinches. There are many reasons why he has been number one for so long. I was rooting for Higgins when he played Davis and rooting for Jimmy White when playing Hendry and I would be rooting for O' Sullivan if he was playing Selby, so as much as I love the dynamism and flair players I also admire the tenacity and safety aspect and shot selection by Selby and a genuinely likeable person away from the table when interviewed. Snooker is an all round game and Mark Selby is a fantastic all round player.

Selby-Ding looks like it's going for the long haul.

Ding doing well so far. Needs to win the session from here.

Very good frame from Ding, doing well here. Selby has a way of grinding down his opponents though, I expect him to emerge through in the end.

That yellow, what a shot!

Ding seems to be enjoying himself more than usual... Is it just me who thinks so?

I reckon Ding needs a few frames of a lead going into the final session. Selby will just strangle the life out of the match at that stage otherwise. He can hang in there if his game drops a level or two. If the same happens to Ding he'll end up three or four frames down and chasing a player who gives away very little cheaply.

And he does! Well played. As Brophs says, I think Ding needs to keep hold of this lead, as if he goes behind, I don't think he'll be able to recover.

Standard looks a lot poorer in the Higgins-Hawkins match than the Ding-Selby one at the moment.

Higgins vs Hawkins is absolutely abysmal compared to the other semi final, I can see the final being very one sided if Selby gets through.

Yeah, I didn't see much of it last night so I'm unsure if this is just a bit of a blip for both players in the context of the whole match, but right now whoever wins the other semi looks nailed on to win. But still...I wouldn't put it past Higgins considering how resilient he is in finals. Back in 2011 Trump looked like he had him beat and Higgins still etched out a victory in the end.

Ding I'd have reservations about because he can concede some easy frames but I'd be really surprised if Selby lost against either of them. It's a shame that Ding vs Selby isn't the final because he's the only player who really looks like he could stop Selby retaining the title.

Ding :(

Not sure I'll even tune into a Selby vs Higgins/Hawkins final.

Here's hoping! Selby looks a little like he's lost his head just a touch.

Wow this must be horrible to endure as a player having to play this over and over.
