Redcafe Snooker

Robertson can't complain he didn't have chances there - he wasn't 'unlucky' to lose, as it were.

Didn't play very well.

He's an absolute mess these days, constantly sounds off his face aswell. Sad to see tbh.
It is sad. I remember his brilliant best too. If Robertson is blaming 'computer game addiction' he can feck off.

Didn't realise he's 35. Not sure he can go on like Ronnie.

That jump ball foul by Hawkins...

Just watching the highlights now, Fu leading 12-11 against Robertson. Ive just saw that kick in this frame which caused Fu to miss and it appears that Robertson can now go on to win the frame...

Now I'm no snooker expert and I only play it rarely but wouldn't a fair decision be to allow the balls to be replaced after a kick? They are so unfortunate at times and I think allowing the victim of a kick to retake the shot would be fair. Having said that I've just realised that the opponent may be disadvantaged at the same time so they may be able to demand a retake.

What are your thoughts?

I wanted to avoid knowing the result of this match as I have yet to see who wins until now (thanks to thread)

To the kick thing, nah, play however it happens, everyone can get a bad kick, I'd probably compare it to a slip in football. It happens and retaking or replacing balls is going to be a nightmare and pointless at the end of the day.

They are always looking into what causes the kick. They've looked at temperatures, moisture in the cloth, the finish on the balls.

Personally i think its more to do with chalk, either it picking the chalk up off the table during the shot, or the white taking chalk off the cue during the shot and the contact being made between cue ball and object ball where that bit of chalk has stuck. Suppose it could even be chalk on the bottom of the cue all touching the cloth at the same time it hits the object ball and then the bottom of the white have an unexpected reaction.

I'd guess whoever has looked into it though and deemed that not the cause. It's probably multiple factors and it's something we will always see.

Edit: looks like a lot of experts actually agree on the chalk, sure last time i looked there were loads of different theories and a lot of people disagreeing.

They've been trying to solve kicks for years and no one has succeeded. The BBC will run a feature on it before the end of the tournament and still no one will be any the wiser.
Shaun Murphy is a player I like but he bores the hell out of me when he tweets about it 10 times in 5 minutes. Having said that I can see why it frustrates the players, if that kick last night had cost Fu the match, and it probably should have cost him at least the frame then I wouldn't blame him for being upset.
The quarter final lineup is intriguing and very difficult to call. I wouldn't be surprised if all 8 players score double figures in frames and each match goes close.

Hope so, but Ding really isn't successful against Ronnie, just one win in proper tournaments in career.

Was lucky to best Wenbo too, plays some terrible snooker at times does Ding. Looked really talented all those years ago but his head seems to wander quite easily. I see him coming out on top in this first session though, new tip for Ronnie which he will be bedding in and getting used to.

4-4, Ronnie will be pretty chuffed with that.

My 96 year old mum watches snooker whenever it's on.

She's almost blind … not sure if that's relevant!

Unlike football, I find it like Golf, Cricket, and motor sports … more fun to do than watch, sorry :)

Yeah it is way more fun to do than to watch that's for sure. Unless you're playing shite then it's not much fun

There's a kind of shot that makes the kick more likely or consequences worse though, innit.

Hit the ball harder with small amount of backspin (stun) & they reckoned Fu would have been fine for path of cueball but slightly less likely to pot successfully having hit the ball harder making the pocket less friendly. That is the players choice, don't see why he should get a 2nd chance, that isn't the game really. I could probably make more than a 20 break getting 2-3 goes at each shot, :D.

COME ON RONNIE !!!!

I don't know about that
I think people have to play it before they can appreciate simply how hard it actually is and how easy the pros make it look.

I love playing it but it is very difficult and it satisfies me just as much as watching it on tv - where it is almost a different game.

I guess I speak for myself on this one!

Thought this would be tight, but even when his play is kind of messy Selby seems to always find a way past his opponent.

Questionable decision making by Marco Fu in that last frame. He had a good advantage but relinquished it so easily. Could've been 5-3 and now finds himself 6-2. He should be very disappointed by that. At least he he didn't fall even further behind I guess.

Fu could take the last three there though, he'd be delighted with 3-5.

Maguire taking a beating on the other table, Hawkins 5-1 up.
Saw a bit of Hawkins' game last night after the mental Fu/Robinson game. He was playing amazingly and potting like a machine.

He also appears inspired at Crucible last several years...that part of draw seems quite weaker than top, wouldn't be surprised to see him in the final. Though, nice going by Maguire, won last two frames of the session, first of them after needing two snookers. And he's not really known for getting them. :D

Ding is playing very well here but Ronnie is potting absolutely nothing tonight. He is miles off the pace. He'd bite your hand off for a 9-7 deficit overnight at this stage but I'd be very surprised if he gets it.
