Redcafe Snooker

Can see Ronnie starting to play a bit more like he has, with this lead. At least for the next frame. Expecting to see him take on some more long range shots.

Where can I watch this? Can't find it on TV?

On Eurosport.

Ronnie looks like he's got it wrapped up now.

So he did get at the balls finally and on it and we see a 141 break.

The Zidane of snooker. Living legend. I need to watch him play live before he calls it a day...

As long as Hendry is 8 ranking titles, including those 2 extra worlds ahead and he doesn't have a 1000 century breaks you might see him for a while yet! Could quite easily play until 50 years old, Taylor has in darts. Its not a physical sport after all.

True, providing his mind doesn't run into 'technical difficulties'. :)

Sheffield is a dump.

It used to be down to the eyes. I remember various old players noting that when they reached 40 there was subtle (sometimes not subtle) changes to their eyes and they just couldn't see for the long shots anymore. I think it was more a case of constantly having to change focus for different lengths than anything as the eye muscles aren't as good as they used to be. It's not something that can be fixed by laser eye surgery either.

If Ronnie's game deteriorates, he'll be out. As I said in a post a while back, I don't think he plays to challenge himself against others, he plays to challenge himself against himself and he'll take no pleasure from not being able to play at a level he expects from himself.

Enjoy him while he's here, there will never be another like him.

I'm torn on Ronnie. On the one hand he's a genius and snooker would be a lesser sport without his talent. But sh1t like this:

Ronnie O'Sullivan 'not bothered' about World Championship
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/35635106

Just makes me think it's time he jacked it in. I can't think of anyone in other sports who whines quite as much as he does. The World Championship has been how it is for a long time and if he doesn't like it, well no one is forcing him to take part. I just wish he would turn up and play, if it affects his sleep pattern (said no other snooker player, ever by the way) then he knows what to do.

He hasn't said that the competition effects his sleep pattern, he is saying his sleep pattern effects how he performs at the competition, as someone who has been diagnosed with psychiatric problems myself I can tell you right away that he'll very rarely be able to just shut off at 11pm and get his 8 hours in.

But the other day he said the Welsh Open was scheduled badly and that they should play 2 matches a day to get it over quicker. Now he's saying 2 sessions a day will be too much for him. And as much as the sleep problem isn't necessarily his fault, it's not that of World Snooker either so I just wish he would stop complaining about everything and turn up and play - you know a bit like every other player on the Tour (even Mark Allen doesn't complain that much anymore!).

It's partly to do with his mental health issues which are clearly a factor and deserve to be recognised as such. It's also partly to do with feeding into the mythology around his greatness, the idea that he would have hoovered up dozens of world titles had he been a steadier personality, whereas as he admits himself he has been at or near his peak for 20-25 years which nobody else in the modern era can claim.

I didn't any complaining in that article. Think you're making a lot of noise about nothing here to be honest. You've also got to keep in mind the media asks his opinion about pretty much everything and give him a lot more attention than most of the other players.

It's not just based on that article. Every tournament he either gives the impression or comes out and directly says that he would rather not be there. Whether this is down to a mental issue, his sleep pattern or whatever, if he's just going to constantly complain all I'm saying is he might be better off at home.
Look at the attitude of the other top players, they travel around the world and they just get on with it. I thought he was getting better i.e. less complaining but just recently he's slipped in to his old ways again.

It's not a compliant. He genuinely stopped caring about winning. He says he'd go for a riskier pot even in a clutch frame if he feels like doing it and not take a safer route to go for the win. He says in the interview I posted above that his priority will be entertaining and not winning. The comparison he makes is that him playing in a championship will be like him playing in local snooker hall...as relaxed as that. If he doesn't win, he's fine with it.

I think it's a great idea. He's won his share is undisputedly an all time great. So let him entertain while other guys can go for the points and wins. There is no one more entertaining in the sport than Ronnie and long may he entertain!

Mental health and, er, sleep pattern bigot. Such a bigot. Sick to my stomach etc...
Ronnie would've won 98 world titles if we operated on Universal Time.

Judd Trimp is arguably as entertaining. Just as quick and always goes for the most ridiculous shots.

He's a very good player and good to watch. He's not got that 1% that makes a player special though. Ronnie on the other has an extra 4%.

Jude's a poor man's Paul Hunter.

Judd Trump shits on Paul Hunter in almost every aspect of the game.

His potting ability is insane. Possibly the best potter the game has seen. This is a view shared by a lot of ex pro's and even Ronnie himself.

Not sure how much weight Shaun Murphy has lost, but he sure is looking good. Fair play to him.

PTC finals, again unfortunately best of seven, are on this week, and also in Manchester. Any of you guys going? Have fun if so.

Event City, appears quite close to Old Trafford actually.

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh again missed a final black for a maximum break. Man, that's twice this season it happened to him.

Youtube stream of final round of WC qualifications (jumps from table to table)

I've watched a lot of the qualifying through the website and Ding is cruising. To be honest most sections of the draw should now be won by the highest ranked player which is good for the main draw and those of us that have tickets for the Crucible! Unbelievable that's happened to Un-Nooh again, he must be crushed.
